WIW 11/7: Mom's night out (black leather and burgundy)

Well, I was thinking of wearing this Party Like It's 2012 floral pants outfit to Mom's Night Out (http://goldenpig.lookfab.com/p.....ts-edition),
but in the end I decided to go with something more subtle (plus I didn't have time to change from my daytime outfit). I think this was a little more in keeping with the environmental milieu. I didn't stand out too much but got lots of compliments on my outfit from the other moms. I have gotten so much use already out of these burgundy maternity skinnies I just bought--I thought it wouldn't make sense to buy new maternity clothes, but it was definitely worth it! It will get great CPW even though I only have a few more months left.

Tahari black leather jacket
H&M black and white T shirt (old non-maternity, but long enough to cover the belly)
Mavi burgundy maternity skinny jeans from Pea in the Pod
Mia Nanette black lace up ankle booties
Le Sak black purse
WHBM burgundy snakeskin cuff

WIW 11/6 Voting in red, white & blue (aka burgundy, cream & cobalt)

I still like subtle holiday theme dressing (http://goldenpig.lookfab.com/p.....day-themes), so in honor of election day I wore red, white, and blue. Actually it was burgundy, cream and cobalt, but close enough! The kids were so excited to come with us to vote. They even got their own "ballots" and "I voted today" stickers!

All the pieces are still non-maternity but worked surprisingly well. And the bag, shoes and jewelry are very old (at least 10 yrs old), but lucky for me, burgundy is back in syle this fall!
Splendid burgundy top
Halogen cream lace trim cami
Tory Burch cobalt skirt
Clark burgundy T strap pumps
Red Fossil tote
Ann Taylor gold and burgundy necklace

WIW 11/5: Winter Tree shirtdress, Frye boots and burgundy tights

It's fall, but it was really warm today (mid 70's and up)! So I wore a sleeveless shirtdress. This outfit feels very fall but is great for warm weather. I bought this Winter Tree Shirtdress at Anthro last fall, and sized up to an 8 because I felt like my normal size 6 was too short lengthwise. Several of you advised me to have it tailored to take in the sides so it wasn't so baggy, but I just wore it belted instead. Well, it's good I was lazy, because now it's still fits and is a great pseudo-maternity dress!

Previously I used to wear my skirts and dresses with knee high boots just with bare legs (I'm anti-pantyhose!), but lately I find I'm wearing tights a lot more now because I want a little extra coverage now that I'm pregnant (since my old skirts and dresses tend to ride higher now that they have to go over the bump). I wasn't sure what color tights to wear with this dress (tried grey and mustard but neither seemed right) so I went with a burgundy (my favorite color of the season!) pair that I just bought. What do you think, do the tights go with the outfit, or is it too garish?

Forever 21 brown double-buckle elastic belt
H&M burgundy tights
Frye Melissa brown lace-up boots
Fossil floral satchel

OK, I have wayyy too many clothes...

...because this is what my closet looks like AFTER I removed half of the clothes! It still looks pretty full, but now the clothes have room to breathe rather than being crammed together. Most of these are still my pre-maternity clothes. I pulled out all the clothes that I know are not going to fit me right now because they are too tight now, or shirts too short to cover my 2nd trimester belly, and all of the trousers and skinny jeans. A lot of what's left may still need to be put away but I haven't had a chance to try everything on, so I left the maybes (like some of the stretchier pencil skirts) in my closet for now in case I can still squeeze into them. And most of the jackets and button down shirts stayed because I think I can wear them open over a T shirt/tank even if they don't fit all the way around my tummy.

The huge pile in 5-6 is not even necessarily stuff I am purging for good, just putting away till after I have the baby and hopefully make it back to my pre-pregnancy weight. (I also purged a bunch of DD and DS's clothes of the sizes that are too small for them so that's also part of the pile). I don't know where I'm going to store all these extra clothes (saving DS's clothes for the baby and mine for later)!

It's making me seriously re-think my large wardrobe, because I really like how my closet looks now that it's not overstuffed anymore. But of that purged pile, I'd say at least 80% of it is still stuff I love and want to keep wearing (like my beloved sheath dresses!), and another 10% of it is older pre-YLF clothes that I still use to complete outfits sometimes (like an old rust mock turtleneck that I like to wear with my Tory Burch skirt).

I haven't even been shopping much lately anymore (only one skirt and a few maternity pieces in the last few months), but I sometimes wonder if you all get sick of me posting WIW's on clothes I've worn many times before. I feel like that may be contributing to my over-full wardrobe, my wanting to be creative and not repeat outfits so often.

I don't know where I'm going with this ramble, just that I've been so worried that I have nothing to wear now that I'm pregnant but in reality, I do still have plenty of clothes to wear...I'm not going to run out of clothes anytime soon! So that's a relief! And I think I need to think harder about purging some items, even the stuff I bought after YLF!

WIW 10/31: Happy Halloween!

Pics from Halloween! I posted earlier wondering if it was OK to wear my baby skeleton hoodie (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ppropriate) and the opinions were rather mixed, so in the morning I just wore regular clothes to take DD to school for her Halloween parade (she dressed as Princess Belle). I did, however, wear orange and black for Halloween. DS went with dad to his preschool parade dressed as a shark. The shark costume was too uncomfortable for him to wear for more than a few minutes though, so for the evening we changed him into a Nemo costume. DD was Princess Ariel, I was a mermaid and DH was a scuba diver. We were going to do this theme last year, but DH got sick and didn't have time to make his costume. I had bought this mermaid costume last year, but now it doesn't fit because of my huge belly so I just slit it open up the sides and wore it over a T-shirt and leggings! Unfortunately this year it was raining hard, so DH couldn't wear the fake scuba tank that he made out of papier mache and a bubble machine to blow bubbles as he walked (because the cardboard tank wasn't waterproof). We went to a friend's house for a Halloween party and still went trick-or-treating anyways despite the rain. I ended up wearing the skeleton hoodie for a short time at the party, after we changed out of our wet costumes. And I managed to get a pic of at home of me with my three lil' skeletons!

(ETA: Bonus pics from 2 years ago of the kids in their skeleton pajamas and our space theme costumes...DH made himself a space shuttle costume, DS and I were astronauts, and DD was an alien!)

Hope everyone had a fun Halloween!

WIW 11/3: Dancing queen: disco ball, gold glitter and leopard

I guess after posting my 2012 party outfit (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ts-edition), I'm in a party mood today!

I wore this MOTG outfit to take DD to ballet and the kids to the park afterward. It's a version of a Christmas gift my mom gave to me:
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....xmas-gifts
This outfit really reminds me of my mom's sparkly glam style, and since I've become more accepting of her style (see this update: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....moms-style) I thought I'd pull this out in her honor. It's a little fancy looking, but it's still essentially a MOTG outfit--skinnies, ballet flats and cardigan. Just a little sparkle, dancing queen style! And I kept thinking "disco ball" when I put the glitter tank over my belly bump--can you dig it?

INC gold glitter and black striped cardigan
Calvin Klein black sparkly tank
H&M black maternity skinny pants
Stuart Weitzmann leopard ballet flats (to match the gold and black cardigan)
WHBM black pendant (also sort of like a disco ball)
Le Sak black purse
Black and silver bangle

Party Like It's 2012 Challenge: Floral pants edition

Fashionably late to the party but I couldn't resist showing up to MaryK's "Party Like It's 2012" soiree!
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....012-outfit

Here's my 2012 party outfit!
H&M floral pants (I had to wear them unbuttoned with an elastic around the button but how could I not pick these!)
Bailey 44 black and white tiered stripe tank
Forever 21 orange blazer
Kate Spade High Line Leica turquoise jewel clutch
Kate Spade Shelley turquoise pumps
Banana Republic Trina Turk colored bangles (plus a few more silver and black ones)
White House Black Market silver and black pendant

I think I hit a lot of the 2012 trends:
Cropped ankle length floral printed pants (esp the H&M version that many of the fashion bloggers wore)
Diagonal tiered stripes
Print mixing with stripes and florals
Orange
Turquoise
Bright shoes
Daytime clutch
Matchy matchy (purse and shoes)
Arm party

OK, confession: I didn't actually wear this out of the house today because DH hates these floral pants with a passion! Plus it's not a good MOTG outfit anyways. I think it's a little too much for work too. Should I wear this to the next Mom's Night Out, or is it way too over the top trendy? If it's too much, I'll have to save it for the next YLF get-together!
