WIW 5/9: Ninja Kitty and Dotty at Fairyland

OK the outfit's not really that exciting but I'm having fun with Dotty and here's a casual MOTG version. Also featuring my Gama Go Ninja Kitty T shirt. I used to be really into Gama Go and Paul Frank pre-kids (I have lots of T shirts and purses) but unfortunately most of the shirts are too tight and short for me now with my mummy tummy. (In fact I had to retouch #6 to erase the exposed tummy roll, LOL). I would have worn the red cardi on top for more coverage, but it was too hot.

Took the kids to Children's Fairyland for the first time and they had a blast riding the train, Ferris wheel and carousel, watching a puppet show, and putting their magic keys into the story boxes. What a fun little place for the kiddies!

K/R pics: Fossil (yellow and black) and Ralph Lauren doctor's satchels

I posted about these "doctor satchel" shape bags earlier--thanks all for your advice.
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ould-i-get

Now the Fossil bags have arrived and I thought I would post IRL K/R comparison pics, if you can bear with me (lot of pics!). Does this change your opinion on which bag to keep? I could keep the yellow plus one of the black ones (I don't have either color bag), or only one of the three, or none if you don't like any of them!

The advantages of the Fossil ones are that they have a crossbody strap (although I don't know if they look too large to wear as a crossbody) and the leather is softer, and it has two (open) side pockets instead of just one (closed) in the front. On the other hand, the Ralph Lauren is more structured/dressier, cleaner look, nicer lining, has feet on the bottom, and is a little cheaper (since I got it on sale at TJ Maxx). I admit I do like the look of the Fossil better (plus I'm a Fossil fan), but the Fossil vibe is definitely more casual. I think that works in the favor of the yellow bag though--I feel like I could wear it both to work (19-21) and casual MOTG (22-23). Plus Suz's ode to a yellow bag has got me craving yellow:

What do you think?

What's on your fashion bucket list?

I thought this would be another fun daydreaming topic. What's on your fashion bucket list? As in, must-have classic items that you would like to own someday before you die? (although they don't have to be designer or expensive items, of course!).

I don't know if I will ever own any of these (probably NOT since they're so expensive!). I'm not normally a status conscious label seeker/logo sporter, but in my mind these are classic style icons and I love good design.

Here's my fantasy wish list (is it any surprise that most of these items are RED, my favorite color?):
1. Burberry trench coat (especially the one that Kate Middleton wore, with the ruffled hem--I found out there was a NY & Co knockoff but too late--that one was sold out as well)
2. Burberry scarf
3. Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress
4. Christian Louboutin heels (I'm not sure about this, I just love the red soles, but not in love with the heel height or his attitude!)
5. Chanel handbag
6. Chanel tweed jacket
7. Hermes Birkin bag (OK I would never buy one IRL, but it's fun to put it on the list!)
8. Red Valentino petal bag (like Angie's!)
9. This Zac Posen red evening gown (or another evening gown by Vera Wang)
10. Mikimoto pearl necklace (or other real pearl necklace)

If I never get any of these, I won't feel deprived. I'm perfectly happy with my Kate Spade and Anthro trenches, Fossil, Kate Spade and Marc Jacob handbags, Banana Republic wrap dress, Chie Mihara heels, Sue Wong and Suzi Chin red evening dresses, and fake pearls! It's fun to dream though!

What's on your list?

WIW 5/5 & 5/7: Taking requests--Dotty Snake and Denim jacket w/ skirt

I posted earlier asking you all to shop my closet and create new outfits for me:
http://goldenpig.lookfab.com/p.....fit-for-me
and I received lots of wonderful suggestions! Thank you!

Here are the first two outfits I wore based on your requests--more to come! Sounds like several of you requested the bee blouse and Missoni blouses so those will definitely be up next! Feel free to contribute more requests--this is lots of fun! Thanks for the suggestions!

1-4. Dotty Snake. This is Cheryl's inspired suggestion to pair the polka dot blouse with the snakeskin skinnies, and I threw in Modgrl's suggestion (waving back at Dotty twin!) to do dot on dot with the polka dot bag and blouse. I wore this on a MOTG day, so I was a bit overdressed compared to everyone else (and the weather was hot so I had to ditch the leather jacket) but matchy matchy me really likes the pairing of dotty blouse and dotty bag, snakeskin pants plus snakeskin texture on the bag, and garnet colored pants and matching ballet flats! So fun!
Tahari black leather jacket
Casual Couture black and white polka dot blouse
Marc Jacobs Dotty Snake Lil Ukita bag
AG garnet snakeskin skinny jeans
Stuart Weitzman giveable red ballet flats
White House Black Market black and silver pendant necklace
WHBM hammered silver UWP stretch bracelet

5-9. Today I'm trying out JennyAnne's suggestion to pair the Anthro floral skirt with a denim jacket, which is perfect given Angie's blog post today:
http://youlookfab.com/2012/05/.....t-formula/
I paired it with a burgundy shirt with lace sleeves from Anthro, and some old burgundy and gold necklace and earring set from Ann Taylor (I'm in a matchy matchy kick right now if you can't tell!). I really love the pairing of skirt with cropped denim jacket, but it is a tad casual for work, so I left the jacket off at work (anyways, you can't see the lace sleeves with the jacket on). And of course, any excuse to wear my Chie Mihara sandals, so here they are again! BTW looking at the pics, I am not happy about the lumpy apple tummy (so I am really sucking it in in #6, haha). I'm doing the 30-day shred (just finished level 1) but it's not helping! :P

WIW 4/30-5/4: Inspired by Nature style challenge week in review

Thank you Bella for starting this inspiring photo challenge! The nature photos are gorgeous and provided so much food for thought. I really got a kick out of trying to flex my creative muscles and as a result, got new outfits that I would have never come up with on my own...trying to evoke all the details in the images make me think harder about using accessories and textures and patterns.

I really loved looking at everyone else's interpretations of the photos. (I haven't had time to comment on everyone's photos yet but hope to do so this weekend when I have more time to savor them!) It seems like there are so many varied outfits from the single photo, yet all of them tie in to the photo. And all of the outfits really remain true to everyone's individual style. Angie is right, fashion unites us, style sets us apart!

Here is my week in review. Which outfit do you like best and which one captures the photo best?

1-2. Day 1--African elephants
3-4. Day 2--Water lilies (I couldn't decide between aqua or green accessories!)
6-9. Day 3--Arizona canyon (three different levels of dressiness)
10-11. Day 4--Morning mist
12-13. Day 5--Galapagos tortoises

WIW 5/4: Inspired by Nature day 5--Galapagos tortoises

I think this picture is my favorite for the week--DH and I went to the Galapagos six years ago (our last big trip before we had kids) and went on a liveaboard boat diving with hammerhead and whale sharks and taking land tours to see all the amazing animals like the tortoises. It was an amazing trip, the trip of a lifetime! We hope to go there again someday with the kids when they are older.

I initially didn't think I would be able to come up with anything good for this photo but it turned out to be one of my favorites! I used a $1 H&M bracelet as the basis for this outfit--the big teal blocks remind me of the string of tortoises lying in the water. The chunky leopard and gold necklace also reminds me of the tortoise shells. Then the Lafayette 148 leather and tweed skirt reminds me of the mud they're lying in, and the White House Black Market gold satin blouse reminds me of the shimmery golden lake. The L148 cognac leather jacket and Timberland Stratham Heights cognac boots go well with the earthy color scheme and the Fossil purse I picked because the teal accents echo the teal colored bracelet (I'm matchy matchy that way--I thought the teal bracelet would look out of place all by itself). I really like how it looks all together and especially since I was able to use this blouse in a new outfit (I bought it with my pindot suit and kept thinking of it as part of that "set", so it's great to have some new options for it). And #7 is a pic of how it looks without the jacket on top.

Thanks for looking! And thanks to Bella for a fun challenge and all the ladies that participated--love the fashion inspiration!

WIW 5/3: Inspired by nature day 4--Morning mist

Anthro emerald green blouse to represent the trees (with navy dots to represent the water), WHBM ink blue jacket and Anthro Liquid Acres abstract print skirt to represent the swirling waters and mist, WHBM ink blue bracelet and earrings remind me of water droplets, and Kate Spade grey croc tote to represent the grey rocks. I wanted to wear the blue snakeskin heels but I wasn't sure my feet could handle a full workday in them so I went with the nude pumps instead.

WIW 5/2 (and bonus outfits): Inspired by nature day 3--Arizona canyon

This color scheme of rust orange and blue is one of my favorites, so I actually have three outfits in different levels of dressiness for today's challenge! Which one do you think captures the photo best?

2-4. Casual--what I'm wearing today. Earth colored striped Gap T shirt to represent the striped sand dunes. Rust pea coat and ochre colored Converse to match the colors of the rocks. Gap Long & Lean blue jeans to represent the water. And silver White House Black Market bracelet to represent the driftwood.

5-7. Smart casual--what I wore Saturday. I forgot to post it earlier, but it actually fits quite well with today's theme too! Orange tiered striped Bailey 44 dress with cropped American Eagle denim jacket (combo inspired by pastrygirl's recent post) to represent the canyon and water, Ugg Hazel clay colored wedge sandals to match the rocks, turquoise necklace also to represent rocks, and cream and black polka dot handbag to represent the white driftwood.

8-11. Work outfit--wore this back in February but the colors in the photo remind me of this outfit--WHBM ink blue jacket and black pendant, Tory Burch cobalt and rust honeycomb skirt, rust Chie Mihara sandals, and grey tights and Kate Spade tote.

What trends/items in your closet are you "so over"?

Just curious...what trends or items in your closet are you tiring of? Anything you used to wear often or were really excited about, but now you are moving away from? How long did it take for you to get sick of it?

For me, I am still really happy with the clothes I bought since joining YLF last summer. But I am starting to get a little tired of my animal print and brightly colored denim.

Sometimes when I see a lot of animal print, I start to think of older women who wear lots of makeup and jewelry (not to say that people who wear animal print are old, but it tends to skew a little old in my mind). It could also be that DH hates animal prints and it's rubbing off on me. I am glad I returned the leopard print faux fur jacket that I tried last winter, because I think I probably wouldn't have worn it very much. I have a PB blouse and animal print heels and ballet flats and belt and scarf, but they're all kind of underutilized.

As for colored jeans, I wear my red pair and white pairs a lot, but the bright cobalt and orange and turquoise ones haven't seen that much play. Again, it could be the teasing/negative reaction from hubs about my "clown pants" that is "coloring" my view of them. I haven't gotten rid of any of my animal print or colored jeans yet (because they're still in style and I could still totally see myself wearing them), but I'm planning to be more selective about new trends in the future, so I don't overdose on something I'll get tired of quickly!

What are you sick of or regret buying too much of, and why?

WIW 5/1: Inspired by Nature Day 2--water lilies

I decided I wanted to wear my Kate Spade black and white chrysanthemum dress because the flowers reminded me of the lily pad leaves. I tried adding some accessories that were either aqua/blue or kelly green to reflect the colors in the picture, but I wasn't entirely sure about these combinations and plus the peep toe wedges are too high to be comfortable at work, so I ended up going with plain & simple 2/3. Hope that isn't too boring! (Do either the aqua or green combos work though?)
