Challenge: Post your Before and After YLF pics!

OK, my jeans shopping trip was a revelation thanks to all of your awesome suggestions. I ended up buying jeans two sizes down from my usual! And I couldn't believe the difference when I looked at my Before and After pics. In fact, I am amazed at how far I have come in such a short time because of all you wonderful ladies at YLF. And here's proof of my transformation...I think this will be hard to top!

1-2. Jeans. From Mom Jeans to Hot Mama Jeans!
3-4. MOTG. My go-to mommy uniform before: ubiquitous REI fleece jacket, aforementioned mom jeans, dumpy diaper bag, Merrell mocs that are the wrong color (I wanted the black mocs but grabbed the browns instead without realizing it--I did that a lot because I only wore two pairs of shoes and they're both the same, LOL). I think the T shirt underneath is purple too. Comfy, but ugh! After: Still comfy in a fleecy shearling vest and brown boots, but a little more stylish! I dressed up just to go to the dentist, LOL!
5-6. Work. Before: I cringe every time I see this formal picture of me with the group at work. Total blah brown monotone, too casual compared to all the others in the picture who are wearing suits, no makeup, hair looks limp and greasy for some reason, and I look huge and pregnant even though I'm not! After: now everyone at work compliments me on how I look, and I finally feel more polished and professional.
7-8. Date night: Before: what I wore for our anniversary dinner a couple of months ago. "Fancy" blouse that is actually a maternity top, mom jeans, and black Merrell mocs. After: haven't had a chance to go out yet recently (kids keep us busy!) but the next time we do, I'll be wearing this killer dress!

Thank you Angie and all of you at YLF!!! So, let's see yours...how much of a difference has YLF made in your look?

(ETA: I think I can come out of hiding now!)
Thanks,
Natalie

Goldie - you have got SUCH a great attitude! I love this post! I am right there with you, but, fortunately for all of you, I don't have a lot of "before" pictures! So you'll just have to trust me that YLF has had the same style-transforming effect on me as it has on you. I just gave away three bagfuls of clothes that included countless pairs of jeans that were too big and too short. You look terrific these days - what fun! Angie and YLF are the best.

  • yellowgirl replied 12 years ago

This is so neat!! What a transformation - WOW!! YLF has done the same for me; I'm appalled at what I used to think was acceptable. I don't know that I have pics to depict this as well as you have done here.

  • Saretta replied 12 years ago

My compliments! Your transformation is inspiring! :-)

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

Ooooh! Great idea, Goldie! I will try to post some before/afters soon.

You look great in your transformation pics!

Question: Are those Gap Long and Leans? Give us your report, please! I have some jeans advice to seek too.

ETA I found your added pics in your original jeans thread; going back to read now. Thank you!

  • Makrame replied 12 years ago

This is a neat collection of pictures! I wouldn't say you have committed any "style crimes" "before", but you do look even better "after".

I was just thinking yesterday that I am not sure if I was paying much attention to the color of my jeans before beginning to read YLF. All of my jeans now are of much darker, more uniform wash - I am not sure whether this is because the colors that are offered in stores have changed or because I completely internalized the idea that dark wash jeans generally look dressier. I definitely like my denim collection more now.

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

    You are inspirational, Goldie.

You just won the next YLF award :)

  • replied 12 years ago

You look completely amazing, Natalie!!! So inspiring. Can't wait to follow along your style journey!!! (Your husband must be completely blown away!)

  • replied 12 years ago

I just noticed that you now stand in a much sassier way than before! Cute!

  • Scarlet replied 12 years ago

Wow, this is a great photo series. I am too shy to post pre-photos, but I am so happy that you are feeling better and looking great. You have a beautiful family.

  • Mo replied 12 years ago

    Great set of before/afters! Brava!!

  • Astrid replied 12 years ago

What a great transformation, you look amazing!

I did some searching and came up with a few pics of my own. Some of these are a little older, but I had surprisingly few pics that were usable. I think you can really see the way my dressing changed in general. Every second picture is a pic I posted here in a WIW post.

#1/2 Dressing on a relaxed summer day.

    #3/4 Dressing for elevated temperature.

    #5/6 A casual jeans look.

    #7/8 A fall outfit.

#9/10 Going out for drinks with a friend.

#11/12 Dressing for sub-zero temperatures. It's the same coat in both pics, the one I want to replace this fall.

I feel like I've just started on my style journey, but when I look at these pics I think I already accomplished so much. I'm really happy to have found YLF - thanks for making this possible, Angie!

  • goldenpig replied 12 years ago

Astrid, thanks so much for posting--I was hoping I wouldn't be the only one! :) Love your pics! Nothing wrong with the "before"s, but the "after"s definitely kick up the style quotient! Love what you have done with scarves. I really need to learn how to accessorize with and tie scarves. Great job--you look very stylish!

  • Astrid replied 12 years ago

    Thank you! :)

I have to say I've really become a scarf addict! It's the easiest way for me to add some interest and when I wear a scarf I instantly feel comfortable.

  • replied 12 years ago

OMG Goldenpig! You looked fine before, but you have really blossomed since joining! I think your darling husband needs to take you out and show you off....and your work needs to seriously consider promoting you! If they don't, another company just may snap you up!

I'm going to seriously study your after pics. I really like the way you put your outfits together...is there any formula you're using?

  • Lenni A replied 12 years ago

You look great! Your before and after pictures are really inspiring. The jeans make so much of a difference. They are awesome!

  • CJ replied 12 years ago

@ goldenpig I agree that you looked fine in both before/after pics, but there's definitely a change in dynamics between them. And that date night picture somehow made me love polka dots for a moment.

@Astrid I want to say something but I'm completely distracted by that skirt in #4. I'm really liking the pattern.

I haven't done much yet as I've only just started, but already there are some noted changes in my wardrobe. I'm finally getting rid of things that are old or that I never wear, but mainly my closet is becoming far less t-shirt heavy.

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

@ Astrid, I love the way you have learned to accessorize and how you are choosing clothes to suit your particular shape. #8 is KILLER.

  • replied 12 years ago

I love the before and after pics in the jeans. What a difference! You were hiding some great legs in those mom jeans! Does your husband appreciate the fashion upgrades?

  • Queen Mum replied 12 years ago

fabulous transformation Natalie! do you live in the SF area?

I have been going through old pics putting together an album for a friend and have been horrified by some of my "style" choices in the past. I'll try to get some before and afters posted here soon.
I''m just amazed at how much more clearly I see what works and doesn't on myself now.

  • christy replied 12 years ago

It's so fun to see these pictures - thanks for posting them!

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

You know what? I looked and looked and can't really FIND very many pre YLF outfit photos! That's how infrequently I was photographed. There are a few at events, but none with everyday clothes. I'll keep digging around though. Surely there are one or two?

  • chewyspaghetti replied 12 years ago

Here is one from 2009. I had lost 35 pounds at this point.
Here is one of my latest outfit pics from this month.

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

You just keep getting better and better, Khris! (Not to mention slimmer!)

  • goldenpig replied 12 years ago

Chewyspaghetti--you look fabulous in your after pic! But your "before" picture would be one of my "after" pictures...you looked stylish then too!

  • HeleenH replied 12 years ago

I don't have many before pictures, but I do have a hair sequence that is fun to look at.
    1: about 3 years ago,
2: On my birthday, May 2010, I just started to grow my hair
3: about 3 months ago, the glasses were introduced in November 2010
4: about 1 month ago, I think I want the hair about 1-2 inch longer.

  • goldenpig replied 12 years ago

HeleenH, love your stylish new 'do!

  • teri replied 12 years ago

    Here's a few of my before YLF........eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkk
#1 ignore foot and umbrella.. It was a gift from my "pond forum friends" after my foot surgery.
This was a staple outfit for me. I had about 4 pairs of these types of pants. I wore then often.

    #2
Improper PPL, "flesh belt"....lol, too much clevage.

    #3
    Frumpy shorts and tanks

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

You are all so brave for posting. I want to set fire to my computer to destroy all digital record of my pre-YLF days.

Thank you all, especially Angie, for crowding into the fitting room with me and helping me through my closet and image overhaul!!

  • Kari replied 12 years ago

Loving this thread! Goldie, your attitude and your smile just shine from the before and after pictures. I love the after picture in #8 best of all - GORGEOUS.

Astrid, I like how your after-style still seems you, but that we're seeing the fun-loving part of your personality come to the surface more. *Love* #8!

Khris, I loved your before-style too, but I think you've really come into your own. You are able to style some of the most elegant-looking casual outfits that I've ever seen.

Teri, I love that you've upped the sophistication factor by many notches with your after-style, but still have a bit of a bombshell influence in your wardrobe. :)

  • qfbrenda replied 12 years ago

Goldenpig, you look fantastic! I love seeing your transformation.

I'll bite. Pictures 1 and 2 are a couple of the first pics I posted here. I was trying, but still had a long way to go. 3-5 are more recent pics, though I feel like I have a long way to go.

  • Kari replied 12 years ago

Okay, here are mine, in before/after pairings. Most of my "befores" are from college, since I started reading YLF about a year after graduation.

    #1-2: Casual get-together with friends.
#3-4: An outfit to wear to work. (Keep in mind, I worked in a very casual environment at the time of the "before" picture.)
#5-6: A patterned dress for a nice event (casual summer wedding or such.)
#7-8: A casual outfit with bootcut jeans and a floral blouse.
(I posted this "before" shot in #7 for two reasons: first of all, this was around the time that I first discovered YouLookFab - summer of 2007. I also chose it because it cracks me up to see Shadow chasing either bubbles or water sprayed from a hose - in present day, one of the things that still manages to catch her attention at almost 13 years old. So cute.)
#9-10: A dressy outfit with a fun skirt.

  • Kari replied 12 years ago

Oooh, Brenda, I love outfit #3! I don't think I've seen that one before. What a perfect way to style that dress. The metallic shoes really seal the deal.

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

These transformations are both moving and inspiring! I keep imagining how Angie must feel to see the glowing smiles as women grow into their own style and full beauty! You all look so wonderful.

  • Louise replied 12 years ago

Fabulous style transformations. Sadly I avoided the camera like the plague pre YLF so there are practically no photos of me x

  • Astrid replied 12 years ago

Thank you, Suz! You're right, you can really see the transformation in just looking at the smiles. I think the appreciation and respect you feel towards yourself shows instantly in your face and posture and with YLF you not only learn to have fun with fashion, but to work with yourself and not against everything you are. I have to agree, everybody looks so wonderful!

Thank you, Kari - you look KILLER in your 'after' pictures! You've really found and perfected your style, I love the shorter hair. And I LOVE outfit #6!

  • Kari replied 12 years ago

Astrid, you are so sweet. Thank you. I prefer the shorter hair too.

I had it long (as pictured) a couple times in college, once as a blonde, and later after I started dyeing my hair red. (My hair grows like a weed.) I don't know that I'd ever go back to having it longer than photo #10 - the longest that it's been in the past 4 years!

  • goldenpig replied 12 years ago

Hi Clearlyclaire, I'm pretty new here too...not following any formulas...just trying to pick up tips from this forum & website! I think the main differences for me so far are that I'm wearing boots and heels more often so I can wear all my skirts & dresses again, starting to use some accessories, trying harder to make new combinations of my old clothes, and pushing a little beyond my former style comfort level with my new purchases (like shearling vest, polka dot dress, trying bolder colors, etc). And for the jeans, I realized that I needed to size down and wear a tighter fit for it to look good, because I was wearing things too baggy before. Besides Angie's wonderful and informative articles, I think the two best features of this forum are getting ideas from other people's WIW's, and getting feedback on how to improve your outfits and what things to keep/return. Hope that helps!

    Teri--where are the after pics?

Brenda, you look great in all the outfits but especially #3--that one is killer!

Kari, thanks so much for posting all your pics too. I love everything about #8. And #9, that is the "after", right? Because that is my favorite! You look great with the shorter hair!

  • Kari replied 12 years ago

Thanks, Goldenpig! #9 is actually a "Before" picture, from late in college. However, the haircut I had then was similar to what I have now (in my profile pic), only it was a bit more grown out.

  • goldenpig replied 12 years ago

Ha, Kari, you look great in all your pics, so other than the hair, it's hard to tell which is the "before"! :)
