Just for fun: What's the trendiest item in your closet?

I don't normally think of myself as a trendy fashionista, but it's still fun to try new trends once in a while. You know what I'm going to say, since I'm wearing it today--my H&M floral ankle pants! These pants remind me of my black cotton blazer with floral print that I used to wear all the time in junior high, circa 1985-86. Which was about the last time in my life that I used to follow fashion trends closely! They are so super trendy and I know I'm not going to be able to wear these pants forever--the floral pants look is so in/hyped right now it may already be dated by next season! Fortunately they're only $14.95 so I can get them down to a reasonable CPW quickly!

Are you into fashion trends? What is the super trendiest item in your closet? Why did you buy it? How long do you plan to wear this item?

I am so not a trendy person! I like mostly classic conservative silhouettes but I DO like some of the new colors. I think the trendiest thing I ever owned was a pair of gaucho paints with knee high platform boots back in 1974!

My red and yellow coloured pants are the trendiest items in my closet right now, I think.

I don't keep up with trends so much, so I'm not sure - does animal print still count as a trend? Cos I have a leopard print scarf! I also have a mint necklace, but I bought that last year when mint was not 'in' :P

  • modgrl replied 12 years ago

You and I are classmates then - I think I had these pants at the same time :)

Right now my trendiest item is my nude boots. They are definitely a flash in the pan but I love them anyway.

  • Sveta replied 12 years ago

I don't think I have any. Even in Chicago I bought boring basics :-(
On another thought do my flat color blocked yellow / cream oxfords count as trendy or not?

  • Scarlet replied 12 years ago

I can't think of a single thing! Maybe my zebra striped handbag.

  • Kate replied 12 years ago

Hmm, maybe my bright yellow Fluevog boots. Or my bright orange patterned maxi skirt (from last summer).

  • Mo replied 12 years ago

Maybe my red zippered moto ankle length skinnies? But only because all those elements are present in one pant at the same time lol. I'm sure any one of those by itself wouldn't make me blink an eye.

I really can't think of anything really "out there." I do have my orange F21 blazer and a striped knit blazer from TJMaxx. I suppose those are the trendiest things I own. Oh yeah, and a pair of leopard wedges that I should have returned but forgot to. I had a moment of weakness and thought I could channel Anna--as if!

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

I'd say my AT Loft striped blazer and my F21 bright orange blazer are the trendiest items right now. My faux fur vest, too, although it's a tiny bit older so maybe not quite as of-the-moment trendy. And my skinny jeans in Kelly green, mustard, red, and watermelon.

ETA: Kelly, we are trendy blazers twins!! :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 12 years ago

Probably my new floral dress - a trend I NEVER thought I'd get into!

  • replied 12 years ago

I think the trendiest item is my striped blazer from BR. The loft one went back:(
I have worn it several times already. The ones I can remember : I wore it with my red halogen skirt and a white PB blouse, also with dark wash skinny jeans, white silk blouse and yellow peep toe flats. I'm wearing it again tomorrow with camel trousers. I'm not sure what top yet.

Hmm. If we're talking magazine page trends... that would be your - hehe- floral H&M pants, which I've copycatted you on, but haven't worn yet. I also got a color blocked tote from Express.

If we're talking trends in terms of what people have actually adopted... I'd have to say that would be jeggings and knee-high boots. I also have two pairs of suede ankle-strap platforms - I'd call them wedges, but they're totally flat. Are platforms a trend?

  • lyn* replied 12 years ago

A polkadot pussy bow top :P

    Kinda boring?

  • Diana replied 12 years ago

Hmm... maybe the slouchy, pleated, cropped (NOT ankle length though, thankyouverymuch) pants I am wearing today?

(I have a lot of florals too but I wear them even when they're totally not trendy, so I don't think that counts for me.)

  • christieanne replied 12 years ago

I'm not quick to adopt trends but I do have quite a few cap toe ballet flats. I had my first Delmans a few years before they were everywhere though.
Citron yellow necklace and a pair of blue boyfriend jeans (have not worn yet).

  • annagybe replied 12 years ago

In my case it would what isn't trendy in my closet.

  • Erica replied 12 years ago

mine are dark red jeans, but yours are fabulous!

  • JennyAnne replied 12 years ago

You are ROCKING those pants! Wow!! I'm not very trendy. Probably the trendiest thing I have right now is a maxi skirt I bought a few weeks ago. That trend has been around for a few years, though, so it's hardly cutting edge. :-)

  • Elly replied 12 years ago

LOL-- I would have to shop to own trendy pieces.

Actually, I have a floral midi skirt. It is 3 years old (actually probably older since I bought it from a discount retailer-- the floral is a "watercolor" probably from a few years before that when those prints were huge). I have never worn it because I couldn't find a top that looked nice, then realized there is something wonky with the waist I am not sure I can fix. I LOVE the pattern and colors (it's a moody "flooded-garden on a stormy day" floral) but I don't know if the horrible construction and polyester jersey are worth putting time and effort and maybe tailor money into to fix the "weirdness."

  • Irene replied 12 years ago

    (Mo, I love those sandals!)

I'm not very trendy, I think. I buy basics all the time. My trendiest pieces would be my newest orange coat (but the sape is very classic), high heeled oxfords -classic again- and red pants -not worn yet, waiting for spring. Oh, a black lace shirt I bough for New Year's lol

  • Beth replied 12 years ago

My black Frye Melissa lace boots. Definitely a very trendy item compared to the rest of the things in my closet:)

  • rae replied 12 years ago

Hrm. Turquoise, body-con, digital, galaxy print dress. :)

  • krishnidoux replied 12 years ago

I think it's my poodly fur vest (below).
    And my leopard red jeans!

  • bj1111 replied 12 years ago

    boris the leather cape.

  • replied 12 years ago

Never mind on the striped blazer. I have a pair of color blocked sandals with orange on them:)

  • Jjsloane replied 12 years ago

My striped Blazer (Boden) and Red skinny jeans (Blue Essence) for sure. I also have nude boots like Rita, but didn't consider them trendy. I tend to follow the trends with color more so if I decide to keep my hot pink VC pants I'll add those in.

  • Ana replied 12 years ago

    Fluorescent yellow cross-body bag.

  • Girl X replied 12 years ago

    Neon yellow skinnies!

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

Bright yellow cross body bag. And nude booties.

Neither is terribly trendy, I guess. I tend more toward classics with a few unusual pieces that aren't exactly trendy. More retro.

  • Nakidra replied 12 years ago

My cobalt skinnies - I'm trying to find some floral pants to add to the mix as well.
Natalie you are looking awesome in the floral pants, darling :)

  • DonnaF replied 12 years ago

My patterned stockings? I have been a black tights gal for maybe five decades, so these stockings are a big stretch since I am self-conscious about my legs. But since my teen has asked to borrow various pairs, I figure they must be trendy.

  • fashionista replied 12 years ago

Knee high boots......maybe if that's trendy, otherwise I buy only classic pieces that can be worn year after year without feeling outdated.

  • Jyoti replied 12 years ago

Zebra print booties (although not a current trend xD) or liquid legging/fake leather skinny pants. Which are also not a current trend. Huh.

  • anne replied 12 years ago

My volumninous red sparkly tunic length bubble hemmed top I suppose. But I got it over 12 months ago, so it isn't up to the minute tr.endy

  • Andrea B. replied 12 years ago

Plum leather cropped moto jacket. So trendy, so "not me." But I love it and feel like a goddess whenever I wear it.

  • seattleattic replied 12 years ago

Gosh, looking at what everyone has makes me realize I have NOTHING trendy in my closet. So Seattle conservative! North Face light jacket, Blondo flat buckle boots and black Kenneth Cole leggings. Then again, I wouldn't know trendy very well...

  • replied 12 years ago

I'm slow on trends but maybe my voluminous blouses, at a push? I am in the market for coloured corduroys though. What a fun thread!
