K/R: Maggy London wrap dress

What do you guys think of this dress on me? I keep trying to find a wrap dress (other than my old BR one, which is great) and previously tried a couple of DVF wrap dresses and a Tahari wrap dress, but so far have struck out and returned them all. This one is the one that Rita and Shannon have. It's a size 4 (size 6 was too loose in the bust). It has a snap at the side to help keep the wrap closed. I would probably wear a black cami underneath for work. Have I finally found one that will work for me or should I keep looking?

It looks terrific to me, Natalie! That dress can seemingly do no wrong! I am beginning to get Maggie London dress envy.

There is something in how the gathering goes over your left hip that I think looks off. It might just be the pose. It just breaks the skirt into two asymmetrical chunks and makes it look lopsided, or that it is pulling on your hip/stomach, but not an intentional asymmetry.

The all over print and scale of the print looks nice on you.

It looks great. Is this regular or petite? I vote keep!
I ordered it too. Sadly, mine went back. I was afraid of indecent exposure but I'm like that with wrap dresses!

I love it! I know you've said before that the lighting in the kid's bathroom casts weird shadows; maybe that's what Ceit is seeing?

What Ceit said. Is it the way you're standing? It is so very you in style and pattern!

I really like the print, I have a couple of her dresses and they are so easy to care for. How does your profile look? I like wrap dress but because of my little tummy I find that some dresses the drapes draw too much attention to it. Ceit also has a point, how does it look when you stand straight? Is it pulling/tugging the dress to one side or does it have a natural drape? Check the back to see if the drape is smooth.

Thanks! I agree the draping doesn't look quite as smooth as it probably should be...I think it's a combination of the overhead lighting casting shadows and a little more apple-y tummy lately (gained a few lb) and maybe I'm slouching a bit, I don't know. It seems like wrap dresses should be so "me", given my love of print and waist definition, yet it's so tricky to find ones that actually work with my apple shape. If I size up for my belly then the bust is too loose. I seem to have better luck with faux wrap dresses than the real thing. But it seems like the best wrap dress I've found so far, so I think I'll hang onto it for now.

Hey Natalie - just took a few days off of YLF to do other things and just saw your post. Welcome my Maggy London triplet!

I love this dress on you, Natalie, and its a big KEEP vote! You look great and I love Maggy London dresses. It's a wrap!

  • replied 11 years ago

Ok, ignore my earlier comments on how the waist is pulling, I know it is just because there is a baby in there!

  • goldenpig replied 11 years ago

Shannon, always honored to be a twin or triplet with you and Rita! Thanks Vicki--it's a wrap indeed! Ha Ceit, sorry for playing tricks on you!

Here's the update with the styled version, just for the sake of closure! So glad I kept this dress!
