My NAS loot

I bought a lot of stuff at last year's NAS--I actually joined YLF and signed up for a Nordie's card after seeing a list of Angie's NAS picks, which inspired me to jump start my wardrobe renovation. So I am trying to be very judicious this year and only buy things that are true wardrobe holes instead of duplicating what I already have. Hence I am trying to stay away from things like boots and leather jackets. There isn't a whole lot that I want or need (that is, until Angie's list comes out and then all bets are off!).

This was my first time doing pre-select. I made an appointment, but I don't have someone that I work with closely so it was just a random SA. She took me to a couple different sections of the store which were roped off areas with the NAS racks. Here are the things I ended up with:

I copied this catalog pic and bought the
1. Halogen toggle closure topper in grey:

and Hue red denim leggings:

And ironically, I bought a very similar outfit to what anti-snazzy Yoga Pants Mom was wearing! I am going to use this for loungewear mostly, but also perhaps for super casual MOTG days. I have very few non-pajama loungewear outfits (actually, only 2--a pair of blue AE sweats and pink jacket, and the Target purple jacket and pants that I just bought) and since I always take off my clothes right when I get home, it beats my typical souvenir dive T-shirt and PJ bottoms look. I admit, I don't do yoga, so maybe I'm a poser for getting yoga pants, but they are so comfy and seem like a more stylish alternative to baggy sweats.
2-3. Zella Pleated Hem Shirred Jacket in Blue Dresden--I really like wearing turquoise, and I feel like the peplum back and shirring make this an UWP-style upgraded version of my old REI fleece jacket.

4. Zella Booty pants in black (really form fitting in the butt and thighs but stretchy and comfy):

I also bought this dress in black and white, although I also ordered the black and red to compare which one looks better. This dress is so cute, but the body-con style is brutal for apples though...I am going to try it with some shapewear to see if it will work.
5. French Connection Dani Stripe dress in black and white stripes (I could even wear it over the red leggings as a long tunic).

6. French Connection Dani Stripe dress in red and black stripes:

Also I didn't get a chance to try these on, but I ordered these capes online. I had bought a camel cape at NAS last year but ended up returning it because I realized that the camel color washed me out. Hopefully one of these two will work and won't overwhelm my frame.

Via Spiga Ombre Plaid Cape:

Any thoughts on 5 vs. 6 and 7 vs. 8 or do you want to wait for the K/R pics when I get them? I'm proud of myself for not going hog wild (although I can't promise I won't covet the goodies that you all and Angie post!).

Nice selections! I can totally see you in that BJ capelet.

I so wished that FC dress was longer! I eyed it but it's too short for me. It reminds me of a Karen Millen dress I tried on in Boston that my husband almost talked me into getting.

I'd never even seen Zella before, but I got the black quilted jacket. I like the modern vibe of their pieces.

Love the first cape/poncho you got --- that looks like a modern/UWP classic!

Amazed by the 'yoga mom clothes' --- that jacket is so beautifully detailed, I'd probably be tempted to wear it out shopping or something, ha! And the pants are reversible?! What do they reverse to?

I think I might have a slight preference for the red over the black&white, with the dress --- but I'm reserving judgement until I can see it on you! :-)

And I have absolutely NO preference for one cape over the other --- they're both gorgeous pieces! Can't keep both, can you?

ooo, now I am tempted by the colorful jean leggings...very nice! And a confirmation that color will come to tall also!

I am doubtful on the French connection, dear Natalie. I think your apple will show. I think though you seem to like a little body con so I see why you are attracted to it.

I'm very impressed. Very nice selections.

Nice picks! I prefer the red striped dress over the white one....less of a jailbird look! But both are smashing.

I'm undecided about the Capes. I love the color and details of the orange one. The B&W ombré one is very striking, but the sleeves look stiff in the pic. I reserve final judgement for when I see your pics!

Natalie I like the loungewear options here. The only question mark I have is over 5/6. I think the other items should look great providing the sizing is good. 5/6 I would need to see on as I can't quite picture them. Can't wait till everything arrives and you post pictures. Well done on your self control.

Fun selections, can't wait to see them on you!

I really like that orange cape/jacket for you with the browns in your wardrobe. Great idea for yoga wear as loungewear!

I'm trying to pick my favorite but I can't. They all look great from here! I prefer 7 to 8. A great color!

  • Abie replied 11 years ago

Nice choices. I must admit that I'm most impressed by the loungewear jacket. The detailing on the back with the rouching and the peplum is so unexpected and beautiful!

  • marianna replied 11 years ago

Love the capes! Can't wait to see everything on.

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

    The capes looks especially fun!

I tried on and loved the French Connection dress! The red/navy color was my personal favorite, since I prefer the slightly lower contrast. It was so comfy too! I think the placement of the stripes is very flattering.

However on me, the shortness and snugness limits where I could wear it, so I passed :(

I love your other picks too! The Zella jacket is a great workout top...I love all the smart design details! And I hope one of the capes works out :)

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Good stuff, Natalie! Lets see it on. And some of those goodies are on my top picks list :)

  • Parsley replied 11 years ago

    Great finds, Natalie!
I think you're going to love the yoga pants. In fact, I don't know how you've lived without them until now. They are the staple of my wardrobe for wearing around the house. Except during our hot summers they're the first thing I put on when I get home from work.

I'm so eager to see the capes on you! I've been eyeing those, but didn't see them at our store.

I'm a little skeptical about the dresses; when you preface it with how brutal they are for apples it makes me wonder how well they'll really work for you. That said, if you don't mind wearing shapewear it can work wonders. I'm a believer!

    Now we need pictures!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Ooh, those dresses are too cute! I would also like to see the capes on - they are so hit or miss with all the factors at play - volume, length, color, drape...

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

Ooh, I like the ombre cape. I'm very attracted to #2 as well, but I need to control myself. Also, I want those pants to replace the ones I got from the drugstore... I love those, but they fall down!

  • Sylvie replied 11 years ago

I'd have to see the dresses on to make a judgement. They just seem like they would be challenging to wear for almost everyone due to the banded hem.

I simply can't choose between the two capes as both are beautiful in their own way. It'll come down to which one fits you best.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

What fun! Can't wait to see it on!

  • Jem replied 11 years ago

It looks like you have some fun picks and I can't wait to see the pictures, too!

  • Melissa replied 11 years ago

I can't collect outerwear here, in Atlanta, winter is too short, but I think the capes are very cosmopolitan chic. The dresses...oh my....whew...they look really sexy, I definitely can see the fun in accessorizing these dresses. I am all over your blue turquoise sport/workout(?) jacket. I want that!! Excellent haul! Oh, and no, I can't decide between the two color combinations of the sexy dress...and I can't decide between the capes either. How to make the decision...either go with what you know you will wear over and over, your first impulse, or round out your current wardrobe with colors or patterns that are unexpected for you and your wardrobe.

My sister tried Zella for the first time at last year's NAS and is a HUGE fan. She was actually sorry that she had not bought more Zella workwear at the time and stocked up this year. I hope that it works well for you too!

I cannot wait to see you rocking a cape. I can see this working really well on you, Natalie.
