What new looks are you experimenting with? Having a blast over here!

I am having so much fun branching out into brand new territory for me. I figure the more I push my fashion boundaries and force myself to try new looks, the more they'll start feeling like "me" or else I can figure out what works and doesn't so I can evolve my style. I already feel so much more fab than I did even a few weeks ago!

Here are some of the new looks I've experimented with since I joined YLF two months ago:
pattern mixing
monochromatic head to toe look
polka dots
belts
scarves (I didn't own a single belt or scarf!)
pencil skirts
skirts with boots
skinny jeans
shirt dress
shearling vest
pussy bow blouses
wearing jewelry more often
wearing lipstick more often
shorts and tights
animal print
dramatic trench coats (ruffled black and red corset)
dressing down evening dresses to wear during the day
denim jacket
long graphic T and cardigans
colorful blazers
high heels (sandals and leopard heels)
layering and the ALGO look

Whew! Can you believe I never did any of those before? I can't believe what a style rut I was in before YLF!

And here's a few more new looks I want to try, but they would require purchasing some items first--I can only change so fast, you know! ;)
accessorizing my old plain black sheath dress (that I haven't worn in ages)
red jeans
white jeans
white and black button down dress shirts (hope to see you soon, Anne Fontaine! ;))
capri/clamdigger length jeans
colorblocking
more pattern mixing
cape or poncho (maybe, not sure about this look yet)
moto jacket/RATE look
parka and slip dress
faux fur vest
snow boots
fitted velvet/cord jacket
fitted neutral blazer
ankle booties
oxfords
learning more about scarf tying--maybe even a headscarf!

Una recently posted this comment on one of my threads:
"GP, I think you deserve an award for "Most Rapidly Fab" or something. It is amazing how quickly your style has evolved, like watching time-lapse photography or something. Incredible." I had to laugh at that and nod my head...when I get into something new that excites my passion, I like to totally jump in with both feet! Team Dive all the way! I am so glad I found YLF--Angie and all of you ladies are the best!!! I'm having a blast!

What are you all experimenting with or what do you want to try next? I need some new ideas to try because I haven't been busy enough, LOL!

Today I wore my new Frye Cindy slouch boots with a denim dress and a scarf. The whole concept of "slouch" boots was really scary for me, but now that I've taken the plunge I'm glad I did.

I'm also on the hunt for a faux fur vest...it's a little bold and out of my comfort zone, but I'm going to go for it!

(I highly recommend taking the white denim plunge...I did this past spring and they were super useful.)

I cannot wait to try my new taupe boots and red jeans - both together and separately.

I have several things that I think I am going to give a go again. Some of them were things that are newly trendy, things I was afraid of or thought could never work, or just things that I had stopped wearing some years ago and am ready to try again with.

    turtlenecks (again)
horizontal striped shirts (both the audrey/french look and the rock look)
    pencil skirt (first time)
    sweaters (never owned one)
    blazers (it has been years)
skinny jeans (tried them an returned them because ex didn't like)
heels for regular wear (flats aren't comfy, so might as well try)
dresses for day, especially in winter (eek! we will see how these work in the mountains)
jean jacket (not since I was 13)
tall boots (was off this look for awhile, but I have been tempted)
    tights
    belting
champagne blouse (it has been 6 years, but I still dream about a former fave)
    oxfords
animal print (not since I was 10)

I'm having a lot of fun branching out too with the following:

    White jeans
    Skinny jeans
    Faux leopard fur vest
    Brown denim fitted jacket
    Biker boots
    Scarves
    Chunky bracelets
Lots of color vs. my typical black, white, and gray. I've always color blocked (didn't know that's what I was doing) but am now doing it with actual colors.

Hah! This morning as I was getting my kids ready for the bus stop, my daughter said "Mom, why are you wearing that? Where are you going" I answered, "to the bus stop". On arrival at the bus stop, my girlfriend took one look at me and said "where are you going this morning?". .... I was wearing brown knee high boots, bare legs, a denim pencil skirt, white t shirt, topped by a grey cashmere duster belted with men's inspired brown belt with tucked end. ..... Apparently, I am so early in my style journey that when I wear something other than jeans and tshirt, my friends and family wonder what I am up to. So, I'll say that the new look I am experimenting with is ..actually getting "dressed".
    Hurray for personal growth :)

You definitely deserve that award, Natalie. You are the fastest learner in the class. And it's good, because I feel motivated to try to catch up to you! ;)

    Pattern mixing
    Nude shoes
    Higher heels
    Knee length wool coat
    the colour phlox
    Thrift store 50s outfit
    Pewter gladiators
    Thrifted oxfords
    Big beads
    Animal print
    Printed cardigan

Things I've gone back to, with pleasure:

    More jackets
    Low heeled shoes
    Pixie hair

I am working on ankle boots and booties with bare legs! Also just got a faux fur vest and am scared to take the tags off. May have to post pics to see what you guys think :)

  • qfbrenda replied 12 years ago

I can't begin to list everything since my whole wardrobe has changed since finding YLF. Currently I'm figuring out what shoes/boots to buy. I have major shoe holes in my closet.

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

That is an amazing list! I am impressed with how much you've taken in so quickly!

Every outfit is an experiment for me :) This season I aim to wear more woven tops and less tees, midi skirts, winter shorts, flats/mid-heels, and hope to find that elusive perfect fur vest I've been searching for for a couple years now.

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

THIS IS MUSIC TO MY EARS.

I am appreciating and experimenting with delicate necklaces for a change.

  • CJ replied 12 years ago

I've started wearing skirts. Consistently, that is, now that I know ways to wear them that are in my comfort zone. I have two and I'm actually contemplating buying more. Not to mention wide belts around the torso that I swore I'd never wear :) And now there's the vests and waistcoats that I practically have to force myself not to wear 24/7 I like them so much.

Been considering branching out into pattern mixing. Might try some low heels that aren't attached to boots.

A lot of these things I've been considering since before I stumbled over this site, but being here tipped me over some kind of edge. Now I'm putting things into practice and stepping out of the house in things I always wanted to wear but never had the courage to before. You could say I feel more like myself than ever :D
