WIW 12/4-5 DB/UWP (& YLF Challenge: Primary and Shadow Style Personas)

OK, anyone up for a fun challenge? Wear two different outfits (or find some previous WIW's) that represent your primary style persona (or everyday style) and your "shadow" style persona (a secondary style that you like to explore once in a while, or one that you aspire to or are attracted to but doesn't quite fit with your lifestyle). Here is Suz's thread for reference: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....adow-style

For me, my primary persona is Demure Bombshell. Very feminine/ladylike, fitted waist, lots of RED, a hint of glamour, but not too overly sexy either.
Shadow style is Urban Warrior Princess, heavy on the P. I like the contrast of tough and girly, leather and boots and studs and zippers, but I don't have the personality or lifestyle to pull this off every day. Also I'm a little too polished to do pure UWP, which tends to have a lot of RATE elements, so I just dabble in it once in a while for fun.

Here is what I wore the last two days, and a couple more from my non-pregnant WIW's so you can see the contrast. Same trench coat but very different vibes.

Hope you all play too! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

1-5. Demure Bombshell
Adrianna Papell red faux wrap dress
Secret Santa leopard necklace (from Lisa from last year)
Tortoiseshell handbag
B Makowsky Heist red and leopard heels
6-10. UWP--Here I'm channeling Una--I know she has this skirt!
Tahari black leather jacket
Target black exposed zipper top
Target green snake skirt
F21 bracelet
Mia Nanette boots
The Sak black purse
11. Demure bombshell signature outfit

12. RATE Kate Spade

ETA: Even if you haven't named your style persona yet, don't worry, you can still play! Just pick an outfit that is your favorite or feels very "you", and do something that is opposite in style. Or a contrast, like feminine and masculine, or polished and rough around the edges, or colorful/bright and dark/neutrals, or boho and preppy. Your style doesn't have to have a name, but I think it's a great thinking exercise and lots of fun!

Aren't you rocking fabulous maternity style! What a fun challenge. I love both these looks on you, so different but you look comfortable and fabulous either way.

All fabulous looks Natalie! Gorgeous Secret Santa gift!

You definitely have two styles working for you. Unfortunately I can't play along as I have no idea what my shadow style is. But I'll be watching all of you!

Super fun thread! And I think it will be helpful, too, for anyone who is really dialing in their style and might need a tweak in one direction or another.

My primary style is UWP - Urban Warrior Princess. Shown in #1 a la the military coat, distressed, buckled boots, and overall apocalyptic color scheme.

My shadow style is SGT - Steampunk Girly Tomboy. This is shown in pics #2-3. SGT is more colorful and feminine, and it relies more on Steampunk (retro-futuristic fantasy technology) than Military references. Represented by the verdigris color scheme, dress, expanse of leg, map bag, and robot necklace. There is still a masculine element represented by the masculine shoes and jackets.

Natalie, you look absolutely stunning in that first dress. What a spectacular colour and shape for you. You're like a burst of tropical warmth. LOVE the second outfit, too.

I had to go back and read some of my original thread to think about this, because I couldn't even remember my own shadow style!

Funny thing is, I don't think I have one any more. I haven't properly embodied my aspirational style - but it's the only one I want. Maybe the fact that I'm still working on getting that one down is part of the reason? I don't know. All I know is that I'm going minimal, minimal, minimal.....

This is a fun idea, and I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!!

Maybe my challenge should be to show my "ordinary" every day style...and then try to come up with an outfit that DOES fully embody my aspirational style. It isn't easy, let me tell you.

What a fun challenge! And an execution that raises the bar, straight out of the gate---it's hard enough to reconcile mum-to-be with bombshell, for most people, let alone an expectant warrior princess. But there you are!

Though, the switcheroo with the Kate Spade coat *really* takes the cake. Primary and shadow style, you make both of them unquestionably YOU with the one garment.

Love Rae's girly-tomboy rendition of steampunk too --- as if it wasn't challenging enough to combine the masculine and the feminine without coming up androgynous, she decides to marry retro and futuristic too. Now THAT's having fun with your fashion!

I love this idea but I have no idea how to describe my styles. I guess my primary is Firefly Chic as someone coined it (which is basically Military/Western/Steampunk/stealing from Rae retro-futuristic/Postapocalyptic/Asian/Space with a soupcon of Cyberpunk), and my shadow style is UWP. I will think on it and come up with some outfits!

Ceit - I definitely think of you as having a shadow UWP style. I really doubt that helps, but I see it in your outfits, which I completely love.

Wish I knew my style, but I'm getting there, and will figure it out sometime in the next few years, I imagine (or at least, hope!)

Thanks amyreh! Your primary style is so luxurious and elegant you don't even need a secondary style! All that cashmere and sparkle!

Thanks Shannon! I noticed you posted in Suz's thread before that your shadow style is androgynous/menswear. I can see that because you are great at the vintage retro ladylike but you do the menswear and trousers look equally well. Maybe you should do a feminine/masculine pair!

Rae, I love your outfits. You have integrated both personas into your look so well that they almost seem like one unified persona in my mind because they're both so Rae. I love the playful steampunk style that you do and the mix of girly and tomboy (love the term "retro-futuristic" too!) I love steampunk too and in fact I posted in Suz's thread that steampunk is my aspirational style. I haven't tried to incorporate it into real life though, unlike UWP. So maybe it's my hidden shadow persona. I would love to do steampunk girly girl!

Suz, thanks for coining the term and your fascinating thread. You said your shadow style was boho, but maybe you've moved on? I can't wait to see what you come up with for your outfits!

Thanks Manidipa! Yes, it is fun to still play around with style even while pregnant. I love doing juxtapositions and contrasts, so Bombshell Bump and Preggo Warrior Princess looks are great fun!

Ceit, can't wait to see what you come up with! Firefly chic sounds absolutely fascinating!

Amiable (and those of you who haven't named your style yet), don't worry, you can still play!
