WIW 2/17: Cream of the crop--all my 5-star pieces together

After trying on all that Jason Wu Target stuff and being not quite happy with the fit and quality, I needed a pick me up and to wear something that I knew I felt fab in. These are all the cream of the crop pieces in my wardrobe and I thought it would be fun to put them all together in one outfit! My favorite skirt--Tory Burch rust and cobalt honeycomb skirt. I love the texture and pattern and color variations. My favorite jacket--the White House Black Market ink blue jacket. So my style. And my absolute favorite shoes--Chie Mihara rust suede sandals. I love how they look paired with grey tights. And my Kate Spade grey croc tote to match the tights and my favorite WHBM pendant. What do you think? I feel like I'm back in my groove!

#7 is the last time I wore this skirt, and that time I used my black plaid wool zip peacoat which is another of my 5-star pieces. I really like that combination too. But I thought I'd try something new this time. Which version do you like better--blue or black jacket?

    Fabulous pieces!! each one:)

Love this on you Natalie. I do prefer the blue jacket version over the black.

  • Tina replied 12 years ago

I would love them too if they were mine...no, I love them on you as well:) This combo is outstanding. I look at your posts and I think, 'always a lady". I would also like to see this with a more transparent leg. Also love the necklace, great all around outfit, but you knew that already!

They all look beautiful on you. That jacket is such a lovely cut and color for you. The shoes are awesome! Very lovely and I think very versatile with other items also!

  • ManidipaM replied 12 years ago

Oh. my. sexiness! Apologies for my french, but that is just too damn radically brilliant.

Would you just look at that?! And then look at the Wu-things? Why would you want to be *that girl*, when you can be this vision of gorgeousity? I'm so glad they inspired you to rebel and bring out this awesome level of awesome!

(Ok, I'm clearly descending into gibberish --- my brain is scrambled, I'm so overjoyed by that beautiful blue jacket that offsets your skin so nicely and flatters your waist so niftily; then that red-and-blue skirt whose fabric is turning me green and whose shape is complementing that peplum so nicely; and finally those red delicious shoes. And then you go on and add that necklace, and those tights... Right, I'll stop talking now. Just... KEEP It ALL! And can I just add that you look UNBELIEVABLE?

I love that skirt. I prefer the black wool peacoat version because it's a little tougher and more unexpected. The ink blue jacket matches the color of your skirt and has the same ladylike look as the skirt and shoes. It's beautifully coordinated but also "safe", whereas the other look shows off your skill at putting outfits together.

Yep - this is our gorgeous Natalie! Fab all the way around! I think that blue jacket might be absolute favourite clothing item of yours.

  • Kirti replied 12 years ago

I love the version with the blue jacket - it is SO gorgeous :) I also love your skirt!

  • Mochi replied 12 years ago

That is a lovely, high-style, texturally rich and just perfectly balanced outfit. Gorgeous skirt, but wow, that jacket really brings all your outfits to another level. Natalie, I'm curious since I tried on the jacket myself: your shoulders look extremely proportionate to me, but are they at all wide? I ask because on me, the shoulder seams came down way past my shoulders (and I don't think mine are narrow). Maybe that jacket I tried (much larger size, obviously) just had flukey, way-huge shoulders. Just curious. Did not buy for that reason (but very glad you did!)

Gorgeous outfit, perfect with the blue jacket. And those shoes...swoon... They'd look great with semi-sheer hose in grey or navy too.

  • goldenpig replied 12 years ago

Mochi, I'm sorry the jacket didn't work out for you! That is an interesting question. I don't think I've measured my shoulders yet (are you supposed to measure all the way around, or just from one shoulder tip to another?) but I know that I feel like I've got broad shoulders. For example, in the Jason Wu thread I felt more comfortable in the second blue dress with the V neck and regular shoulder straps as opposed to the sheer blue top that I felt like highlighted my shoulders and made me look broad. And I definitely feel less comfortable in halter style tops or spaghetti strap or strapless dresses that leave my shoulders completely exposed because I think it makes me look very wide up top. I'll try to measure myself when I get home to see if I truly am broad shouldered or not!

  • Mochi replied 12 years ago

Don't feel like you need to go to that trouble on account of my curiosity. And IF you do have wide-ish shoulders, you are ingenious at balancing them very well...I would not have noticed.

The jacket didn't work for a variety of reasons (and it was so cute; I really was willing to overlook that it was a smidge too tight, etc etc). But the shoulder seams hanging down even went too far beyond my low fitting standards! It's odd; I am sort of IT so at least I should not have narrow shoulders...have a feeling that because I sized way up with the jacket, they just increased the measurement disproportionately there? Sizing is a total mystery, isn't it?

Beautiful pieces, combined beautifully! I prefer the black jacket, for the same reasons Sylvie mentions, but both looks are fab.

  • DonnaF replied 12 years ago

Now THAT is Natalie! Jason Wu for Target? Not a good match. Love the blue jacket for milder weather; black/charcoal one for when it is much colder. Those sandals are amazing, esp. on YOUR feet.

  • Ornella replied 12 years ago

I like the pieces individually, but am not too crazy about all of them together. Since they all have so much interest, I find it hard to focus on one thing. I am, of course, talking from my point of view, but what I'd try is pairing maximum 2 of these in one outfit and wear very basic pieces to bind it all together. Then you'd really have statement pieces standing out rather than fighting for attention ;)

You look delightful head-to-toe in this!

Love this outfit - you see how you are just ladylike in everything you wear? I think the idea of wearing your 5 star items altogether is brilliant, and wouldn't it be amazing if everything in one's closet was like this? *sigh* Something to aspire to, that everything you own is something you can't wait to wear...

  • nicoleb replied 12 years ago

Really pretty. I like the black jacket best too.

  • Amy replied 12 years ago

All nice pieces, but I adore that Tory Burch skirt. That is BEAUTIFULLLLLLL :)

  • RandomThoughts (Andrea) replied 12 years ago

Natalie, L O V E this combo. The blue really "pops" and I feel like it brings out the variegated color of the skirt. Super sweet! I like the blue combo better but not by tons because the black jacket is also fabulous.

Mochi, I thought I'd chime in as I have the same jacket. I don't feel the shoulders are wide. I have a fairly proportionate figure and I like the way the jacket fits me. Of course that doesn't mean that yours are narrow. I just might be over all wider than you! :D

I'm a rectangle with hourglass tendencies when you judge by appearance from the front - my hips and shoulders are about the same width. But if we're talking measurements/profile, I'm a pear - I have way more A than T. ;-)

I LOVE all of these pieces together! :-) Wow, I think it's my favorite outfit I've seen of yours (although you have a ton of great outfits!!). I really love all of the interesting textures. I can't even pick out a favorite piece. Those Target pieces really didn't do you any justice. This is just so much better, it's crazy! I think I might like the blue jacket slightly more, but really love the black one, too. It's nice you have so many ways to wear your fab pieces!

  • replied 12 years ago

I love the pattern on that skirt, so beautiful and that jacket looks awesome on you.
Have you tried the shoes with a less dense hose? Beautiful color combination, by the way.
    Natalie is back!

  • Fruitful replied 12 years ago

Wonderful colours and textures GP. I wish I had this many 5 star pieces! You have cultivated and curated, and I'm going to try to follow your lead this year I think.

  • Isis replied 12 years ago

Love this! I especially like the textured grey stockings with the texture of the suede sandals......Perfect combo of contrasting textures AND contrasting colors!

Hope you felt fab fab fab all day!

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

Natalie, I can see complete style peace in your life. YOU ARE THERE.

Well done. You look absolutely fabulous every day and it's a pleasure to see your outfits.
