WIW 2/4-5 & 1/31-red snakeskin skinnies, polka dot denim, floral skirt

Here are my outfits from this weekend, plus one I forgot to post from last week. Finally had a chance to pull out the AG red snakeskin skinny pants from Anthro--I felt very rock and roll! DH even complimented me on my outfit, including the pants (!). He said "I hate your orange pants but I like these ones." Also I think he likes it when I wear fitted turtlenecks. This outfit *almost* makes up for the plaid pants debacle. :)
1-3. Halogen zip peacoat in black plaid wool
Macy's INC black ribbed turtleneck
AG sateen snakeskin skinny pants in garnet
Frye Melissa black lace-up boots
Bangles (one old, one from H&M)

Today's outfit has Angie's recommended denim shirt from Gap with polka dot pattern. I sized down to XS as recommended. It's a very thick substantial shirt, with snaps down the front.
4-5. Gap polka dot denim shirt
Old Navy Rockstar Jeggings in red
Red Converse

For the third outfit, would love suggestions. This feels a bit frumpy to me esp. with the colored blazer and flat shoes, but I had to wear flats because I was doing a lot of walking that day at work and I couldn't figure out what other jacket to wear with it--this was the only one that seemed to go with it. Any suggestions on how to fix the last outfit? Is it too much going on?
6-7. Anthro So Saturated Blazer in Gold
Anne Fontaine cream short sleeve blouse
Anthro leaf belt
Anthro floral midi skirt
Bronze Born ballet flats
Fossil floral satchel
WHBM champagne pearl necklace

Thanks for your suggestions and comments!

Natalie, reading about these outfits makes me want to be you. :)

Natalie, I think these are all fab, and #3 is the furthest thing from frumpy in my view! I think it looks elegant and fun and fab! Some heels might tart it up a little - maybe you might want to save the rest of the outfit for a day when you can wear heels? But that blouse is just to die for, and the rest of the outfit looks great too.

And those snake pants? I die!!!

  • Amy replied 12 years ago

Oooh, Natalie! Those snakeskin print pants are uh-may-zing.

I really like #6 too. Such pretty colors.

Nice. I have boot envy seeing those Melissa black lace ups. AS far as the lasst outfit, I like it best with the jacket, although that is a beautiful blouse. Do you have a studded belt that could toughen up the sweetness? I'd also like to see the skirt and jacket with a patterned blouse...polkadots or a check might be fun and modern.

Ooh I'm planning to try this polka dot shirt this week! :D I love it on you! The snakeskin pants are fab too :)

You are looking good! All the outfits are lovely on you. and I particularly like the little dotted gap shirt with the red jeans and cute sneaks! I have been thinking about getting the dotted shirt but hadn't thought about red jeans which look wonderful! That last outfit does NOT look frumpy! Just very fresh and ladylike. If you desire a slightly edgier quality then maybe wear it with boots or booties? I like it very much. Classic is a good thing.

Wow Natalie - those snakeskin pants are perfect on you! Love that outfit - very rock and roll indeed!

I also really like the Gap polka dot denim shirt - I think I might have to check that one out myself.

I love the outfit with the Anne Fontaine blouse and agree with MaryK's thoughts about adding heels.

    Another fabulous week gorgeous lady!

The red snake skin skinnies look amazing on you. They are very natural. You can really pull off that rock and roll look when you want to! I also really like what you did with the rock star jeggings. It is such an easy and fun look to wear. I see why you are feeling less fab than your usual self in last one. I know you are a big fan of anthro and I hope I don't offend you but sometimes their patterns look like grandma's tablecloth. You really need to work extra hard to bring these clothes into a modern overall look. I guess it's the combination of the color coordinated blazer and flats that aren't working for me. How about a cropped denim jacket and comfy wedges? Flat nude oxfords and your ink jacket?

Natalie, the first look is so cool and urban and definitely (and successfully) pushing beyond the boundaries of whatever your style image has been. I like the second look for its casual simplicity--it looks like something I'd be wearing all the time. You're right that the third look isn't as great--it's still nice and pretty; maybe too much ruffling going on between the blouse and the skirt (whose overall shape is ruffle-y in construction)? Perhaps a contrasting jacket, rather than the yellow one (which, logically, WOULD be the jacket you or I would pick, eh). I happen to like the flats. Overall, very well done!

Don't you love it when we all have contradictory opinions? :-)

Hey, Natalie, I just jumped back on quickly to add about the last outfit: I know it's probably the main component, but I am thinking you might want to switch out the skirt! Sub in a colorful pencil skirt! I am wondering if that would be the simple solution--I just see too much ruffly volume and sweetness with the current look.

  • replied 12 years ago

I am amazed how cool the jeans are. Regarding the third outfit, to my eye, it would benefit from a longer leg-line. If the heels weren't an option, you could change the skirt with one that, still being a-line ( if you want) sits on your knee or just above it. Just my two cents.

I love the red printed jeans! That whole outfit is perfect. Also the one with the Cons. What a great idea to match your Cons to your pants!

I love the last outfit and I will join you in trying to analyze the frump factor, since this is something I struggle with too. I hope you saw Angie's fabulous blog post this morning on that very subject! Since I *have* to wear flats all of the time, I have this problem with skirts--my new full ones will be giving me fits I think. So maybe if you add an element or two of edge--a moto or an edgier bag, that might help (or a studded dog collar, lol). You do look beautiful to me and at least you have youth on your side!

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

How about the ink blue jacket with the skirt in the last outfit?

  • rae replied 12 years ago

LOVE #1! See, there's the UWB again!

    For #3... a shorter jacket? A high heel? A shorter/straighter skirt?

  • bella replied 12 years ago

I love #1.I think you should give your SO some credit if he liked you in that outfit. He has good taste, and perhaps wants to see you in more edgy, modern outfits, who knows?

I agree that you need different shoes, perhaps even a different top for #3 to decrease the frump factor. As Rita said, the skirt is so vanilla that you may have to work hard to make it feel like you. Maybe a more edgy styling would help. Some possible suggestions: Scrunch the sleeves and pop up the collar. Opt for moto boots instead of flats and a distressed leather belt instead of a pretty floral one. Carry a crossbody leather bag.

  • Diana replied 12 years ago

I love #1! Those snakeskin pants are too cool, and hooray that DH likes them too! (Perhaps he is coming around to the animal prints? Clearly you should have started him off with snake rather than leopard all along!)

I like #3 but do see what Mochi means about it maybe being a little too sweet. I prefer it without the blazer... I would add some tough elements, like a leather moto jacket and maybe some moto/combat boots as well (if you're worried about having a long leg line, maybe not the boots... but I still think it would be fun.)

  • Nakidra replied 12 years ago

Love the outfits! What about a different top in the last one? I think the pattern on the skirt and the girly blouse is what's making it look less modern.
The snakeskin skinnies are CRAZY amazing on you! You've really come a long way, baby! :)

  • Sunita replied 12 years ago

Love the first 2 outfits! Totally fabulous.

For the 3rd: It's a very lady-like Springtime outfit. Maybe too-much so? Do you like that skirt length? If not, I'd have the hem taken in to knee-length. Or try it without the frilly blouse? Could you try heeled wedges instead of flats?

I really look forward to your WIW posts!

  • Jonesy replied 12 years ago

I think all of these are great! Maybe if you want to play around with #3, try a tougher jacket as many people have mentioned, or some edgier shoes/booties. But I think it's very springy and ladylike--I would smile at you if I saw you walking by :).
