WIW 2/6: Neutrals Day 1--Parisian chic

OK, I usually try not to rip off entire outfits straight from the catalog, but this outfit from White House Black Market was so cute I couldn't resist. It reminded me of Parisian Chic. DH said I looked very "nautical" and said several times that he liked the outfit (although I didn't have the scarf on by the time he got home--he probably would have thought that was too much). I wore it with my Halogen wool moto peacoat--that jacket is becoming a real workhorse in my wardrobe! It instantly edgifies any outfit and kicks it into UWP or rock and roll territory! Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of it zipped up, it looks much better that way.

The blue snakeskin pumps are super cool but the heels are sooo high--4.5 inch with a 0.5 inch platform. Yikes! If only they were 2.5 inch and stacked heels these would be perfect for me. However, I ended up keeping them anyways, because I couldn't find anything else similar...I even found and ordered a pair of All Black blue snakeskin low heels (see #7), but unfortunately the only size they had was too small for me, so I have to return them (plus the styling is a bit odd with a peep toe and shoelaces--it looks a bit too clunky on me). These pumps are relatively comfy for stilettos, but I brought my black ballet flats and wore them when I had to walk down the street to the hospital because I didn't want to take a chance on tripping (I'm not used to wearing such high heels). They're gorgeous, but I don't think they're all day shoes.

I know scarves work wonders on outfits but I'm not used to wearing them! This one is pretty, but I found myself fiddling with it all day, trying to keep one side behind my back. Also it feels kind of constricting, like turtlenecks...I keep remembering someone here said "it feels like you're being choked all day by a really weak guy". So true! Also, scarves are probably not the most practical item when you're seeing patients and doing procedures.

Oh, and how do you like my new UWP bracelet? It's a hammered stretch bracelet on clearance for $12 from White House Black Market. I think it's hilarious that I'm buying UWP jewelry from WHBM--it's kind of like trying to buy punk rock clothes from Ann Taylor. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and find an All Saints store (that could be dangerous for my wallet though!).

Wow! Great outfit! Your addition of the jacket and bag add an edge that I love, too. Ooh, and the bracelet! Perfect.

That outfit was made for you! And just think what a shame it would be if it never got worn *out* just because it was worn for a few minutes in a shoot. The outfit thanks you. :)

Ahh! I love this outfit! :) PSHAW; you have more pizzaz than the model - I see those pumps are coming out to play! :D

I love the bracelet! It was only $12? SCORE!!!! Ah; a good example of "leave no retail stone unturned" eh?

I usually tuck my scarves when I'm doing a procedure, or tie it into a bow.

This has to be one OF MY MOST FAVORITE OUTFITS OF YOURS, and to think you found that bracelet for $12. Reeeeally?! Let's go shopping!!!

You do UWP in your own way and I like that!

Very nicely done. The blues are very pretty on you. I see what you mean about the heels though. They are beautiful but perhaps not for a full day of work.

That bracelet is really cute and adds a nice little hit of shine to the outfit.

Lovely--the blue looks fab on you! Why can't shoe makers make gorgeous mid-heels? Why why why?

  • Joy replied 12 years ago

Very feminine but the striped top keeps it grounded to me. Really pretty.

Super cute! I love that knife-pleated skirt, and you know those shoes are my faves!

I can see why you liked this outfit enough to buy the whole thing, kit and caboodle! Those are beautiful heels--(hey are those sock elastic marks on your bare ankles? Busted! I get those from sleeping in athletic socks). I hear you on the high heel rant. I cannot WAIT for low heels to become fashionable again. Even 2 inches is too high for me. Too bad the peep toe version didn't work for you. My hat's off to you for suffering for the sake of fashion. I'm sure you blew your patients away today!

I prefer your version to the modeled one - somehow yours has more personality! I'm really liking the ink blue/black combo here too. The shoes are awesome, although my feet are hurting just thinking about 4.5" heels!

  • Jem replied 12 years ago

I really like all of your blue outfits! :-) The pleated skirt is so pretty and looks fab with the striped top. I really love your new shoes, too. Too bad they are so tall. It's pretty hard to find anything cute even 3" these days, it seems, let alone less. Too bad the other ones didn't work out, but the ones you got really do look amazing!

Love, love, love your outfit! Skirt, heels, scarf, and tee all worked really well together!

  • CocoLion replied 12 years ago

Very nice outfit, so flattering and very "you." I think the outfit is still stylish without the scarf, if you need to take it off during the day.

  • Tina replied 12 years ago

I don't think these pictures do justice to fabulous you. I was just reminded of why I removed WHBM from my favorites, it was just too tempting, they have such nice clothes that come in my size! This is just beautiful, Natalie, you are a classy lady:)

Lovely outfit! Pumps are to die for!

  • jenanded replied 12 years ago

So beautiful! Shoes are divine - why wont they make them with lower heels so we can WEAR them...

  • Jaime replied 12 years ago

Annoying about the shoes but great outfit. I love the skirt!

  • Beth Ann replied 12 years ago

This is an outfit that begs for dancing! Or at least striding down the street swinging a handbag. Seriously, I love clothing that moves with the wearer. The blue is so vibrant, yet easy on the eyes. Wear again!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 12 years ago

Gorgeous outfit Natalie - I have got to get some of that cobalt blue in my wardrobe. It's such a pretty colour - especially in that pleated skirt.

Of course I'm eyeing those blue All Black tied pumps since they are like my fish bow pumps. Love the colour!

  • AJ replied 12 years ago

Super cute and very Parisian Chic! Hats off to you for walking in those high heels! They are pretty!

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

How pretty, flirty and feminine - just like you :)

  • velvetychocolate replied 12 years ago

Wow - you look gorgeous in these colours, and I think the outfit is fabulous on you! You are making me crave blue...

This is a very glammed up version of Parisian Chic. So pretty.

  • HelenInCanada replied 12 years ago

Love this, Natalie! UWP bracelet is gorgeous, too.

Have you seen this scarf-tying tutorial? (25 Ways to Wear a Scarf in 4.5 minutes.) It's very quick and entertaining!

Pretty outfit, I really like the skirt drape and length on you. When I first started wearing scarves I had to wear lighter weight materials to decrease the bulk and weight around my neck. Now I can wear heavier fabrics without them bothering me. Also, perhaps tying the scarf around your neck twice with little to no ends hanging down would work better if you are bending often during the day. Sometimes a scarf tied long feels like a cape worn in the front. :)
