WIW 2/7 Neutrals Day 2: Menswear inspired

This is a totally new one for me! I am always so ladylike and am not used to dressing up in more androgynous/masculine styles. But I was inspired by several factors. One is Amy's cool menswear WIW post yesterday where she used a scarf as a tie. And how she posted on my other thread that there aren't any looks that she would never try--that she'd try anything at least once. I thought that was great! Also Angie had posted about buttoning shirts all the way up so I wanted to see how that would look on me. And MaryK was so brave to try RATE/masculine recently so I thought I'd give it a try too. I used a Target Missoni headband as a "tie" (I think Sona used her headband as a scarf once too). I was in a rush to get out the door for work this morning so I didn't have a chance to ask DH how to make a tie knot so I just hurriedly tied it and left (next time I'll try to do a proper knot). I felt like this was a VERY different look for me. Not sure if the menswear/tomboy style looks good on me and whether or not I should explore it further, or stick to my ladylike roots? Suggestions welcome!

In the spirit of Ornella's post, here's how I came up with this outfit in 5 minutes before rushing out the door:
1. It's raining--I want to wear my Aquatalia rainboots.
2. Angie was posting about buttoning shirts all the way up. This black one was one of the only ones I have that can do that.
3. Which skirt to wear? Oh wait, let me try a menswear look! Grey trousers it is.
4. Which jacket? Ink blue? No, it looks funny with the buttoned up collar. Wait, let's try a black leather jacket! Perfect!
5. Necklace? No, too feminine. How about this skinny scarf like a tie! Let's go menswear all the way!
6. Purse--grey croc tote
7. Jewelry--add some dangly earrings and a bracelet so I don't look too masculine.
8. No makeup! I'm late anyways!

Black Anne Fontaine button down shirt
Missoni for Target black and white zigzag headband as a tie
Tahari black leather jacket
Classiques Entier grey trousers
Aquatalia Vavoom boots
Earrings from Saba vacation
White House Black Market silver cuff

You pulled together this amazing look in 5 minutes?!!!

Wow! Just wow. A 10. Love it.

P.S.: Glad you posted a close-up of your face...it's lovely.

So, this looks striking. I think, in part, because of the high contrast black/white. It looks clean and put together so the details don't scream but work together. I love the unexpected shoe and your accessories make it HARD for someone to miss the "girl" in there! Trousers were a fabulous choice---I think you've done a great job of a menswear interpretation. BTW, I do love the mens trouser look and slouchy pants---the fem details (jewelry and simple styling) make it a sext statement without even trying! You look fabulous!

This looks beyond FANTASTIC Natalie! The bold graphic print of the "tie" against the black shirt, the leather jacket, those red boots - they all combine into one heckuva chic outfit!

Wow, this is neutral, graphic, sexy and cool! Even though you added some masculine elements, it's obvious that you are ummm, a girl, lol! Love the high contrast on you and the ladylike bag hold says *demure bombshell dressing up as one of the boys* in a very cute, tongue in cheek way.

This is a really unexpected look on you Natalie and it is so cool!

Agree with Sveta - super cool. The tie triple makes it for me. You are one fast thinker!

You look great. To me it doesn't look very menswear but you look fabulous.

Natalie, this is a great new look! I'd definitely say it's more "inspired" than actually androgynous or even masculine. To me it's a very classy and well-assembled feminine business-wear look. The reasons: everything is polished, everything fits in a tailored way, and the accessories are all girl.

Think about these changes to make it more menswear if you want! Wear a real tie. Try oxfords. Add a vest. In a different context, a tough belt.

It's still different from your usual looks and you wear it like you own it!

Really cute, Natalie! I love your Wonder Woman boots poking out too. FUN!

PS - I have to wait for my self imposed SYC to end and will be getting me some python jeans and otter wax.....

I have to say LOVE it. You have to do this look again!!!

You just look so sleek and polished, but with a gorgeous edge to it :)

Thanks everyone! Adelfa and Una, that's funny that you said it doesn't look masculine at all to you. It's a lot less ladylike than my usual style and I walked around all day thinking "OMG I look too much like a boy" but clearly I have a long way to go! I love how Angie can look super feminine in her full skirts, but also do tomboy equally effortlessly!
