WIW 4/23-24: Trying to remix but I like the originals better

Here are two outfits that I changed one piece to make it a "different" outfit, partly because some of you said you don't post repeat outfits here on YLF when they're exactly the same, and partly to break in some lesser worn items. But after I wore these, I think I like the originals better. Is it better to wear variations of an outfit just for variety's sake or just wear the "perfect" version more frequently?

1-4. Jason Wu for Target mustard sleeveless blouse
Black skinny belt from an ASOS skirt
ASOS mustard and black chevron stripe skirt
Missoni for Target zigzag stripe black pumps
Kate Spade black ruffle trench
Fossil chevron stripe satchel
Calvin Klein V necklace
(yes, I am corny, I love the matchy matchy V and chevron stripe fun in this outfit!)
5. Original version with black turtleneck and yellow skinny belt:

6-7. Tulle raspberry blazer
Anthro yellow owl Lemon Liftoff blouse
Halogen brown trousers (wanted to use this since I hadn't worn it yet, but I feel like trousers highlight my apple tummy and aren't really "me")
Clark brown twist strap pumps
Jack Georges brown leather briefcase
8. Original version with brown skirt--I so much prefer wearing skirts to trousers!

Which versions do you like better--old or new? Wear both versions, or stick with the favorite?

I love all of these Natalia! I think it's good to wear outfits you feel really good in, no matter how many times you repeat it. It's also nice to swap a piece here or there to make it feel fresh. I say do both!

I like the mustard top and the black top with your chevron skirt - even though our spring is on the chilly side, a black turtleneck might be pushing it for April so this is more of a Chevron Skirt - Two ways approach. I like both!

How long is the blouse in #2? There is something about the waistband in this trouser that seems off from how fabulous your clothes tend to fit you but the rest of the fit is good. Can you use these trousers to join Team Untuck at some point? It is a really small thing that I only observed because you pointed it out - I seriously doubt anyone else on the street or in the corridor would think you look anything less than fantastic!

Remixing is nice to give things more mileage and give yourself options. But it's so good to have a some standby favorites in terms of easy mornings and feeling great all day.

"Is it better to wear variations of an outfit just for variety's sake or just wear the "perfect" version more frequently?" --- DEFINITELY the latter, sez I!

Natalie, I have to confess that if I compare side by side, I like the second skirt outfit better than its pants version. BUT, chances are no one who sees you is doing that comparison! And when I arrived at the pants outfit, I was quite blown away by that gorgeous colour combo... until I arrived at the last photo.

As for skirts vs pants in general, with your lovely legs, it just makes so much sense to show them off!

I think all these combinations look great & there is nothing wrong with rewearing favourite combinations as often as you like. Sometimes you just don't want to think too hard about what to wear & going for one of your favs that you know look great is such a stress free way to go.

I like all these outfits. If an outfit is a 9 one way and a 10 another way then why not mix them up as long as one of them isn't lower than an 8. I don't think they each need to be 10s. Of course I am speaking as an owner of an extremely tiny wardrobe so I need to be able to maximize combinations.

Wear it your favorite way unless you are feeling bored/need variety (i.e. small closet and you wore the "perfect" outfit to "x" regular event last week or the week before).

    I like them all!

These all look good Natalie! For outfit #1, the "original" looks more autumnal and the remix more springy; I'd like to see the dark belt swapped for something lighter though, maybe cream or light yellow or snakeskin. For outfit #2, I think the trouser version will look better with the top untucked if the shirt is long enough for pants. Regarding your question on repeats, I think you should wear what makes you feel your best! I'm one of those who doesn't repeat (I have nothing against it though!), but I do try my best not to wear mixes just for the sake of mixing and treat all remixes as a "fresh" outfit.

Love them all. I particularly like the pants outfit! I say waer what you like when you like.

Truly, Natalie, I like all of these!
I love the original versions, but I think you've created some nice new looks, too. The first outfit seems more spring-like than the original, as Aida said.

I don't think there's any need to remix things unless you feel like it, but every now and then it might be fun to change things up a little.

OK I think you just converted me to remixing lol! I didn't believe in remixing for the sake of not repeating; I love wearing whole outfits again. But what you've come up with looks so cool - I know it's out of your comfort zone but that may be why it feels fresh, because it's a little different than what I'm used to seeing on you. Love the older versions but love the new ones a wee bit more! That yellow blouse is gorgeous with the chevron skirt (amazing skirt btw) and the pants with the cardi and blouse adds an almost-menswear inspired edge - cool is the only word to describe them both!

I love all these looks and I don't think the pants are unflattering at all!

And you inspired me t o track down the Lemon Liftoff blouse on eBay and order it!

I remix a bit but am not obsessed with it. I do it mostly because I don't really like to wear the exact same thing again and again. That's probably why I have a relatively larger wardrobe, too. But if you love one outfit and only tolerate a remix, I say go with the one you love. If it's just a matter of getting out of your comfort zone, then I'd say practice some more and you may find you really like it after all, and your closet will seemingly expand before your eyes. This may be worth looking into if you are going to continue to SYC as a way to keep things fresh. (I like all the outfits, by the way!)
