WIW 6/11-12: Camping gear

We took the kids on their first camping trip! We stayed in a tent the first night and a cabin the second night. It was really pretty there--the tent sites and cabins have a view of the ocean. It was close enough that we could go home for lunch and a nap in between the two nights, which was good because the kids were so excited they barely slept at night! I'm not wearing anything special, just gear (orange hoodie and red REI fleece, jeans and hiking shoes). But I thought I'd share anyways--we all had a lot of fun! (Bonus pic of the kids making s'mores)!

BEAUTIFUL photos and I'll bet great memories too. Thanks for sharing, Natalie!

My 'gear' doesn't look half as cheerful as yours. You're inspiring me to remedy that.

What a beautful place. And your kids are lovely. They must had have the best camping as its their first trip. You look lovely MOTG. You all have such wonderful lives and time to enjoy it. We are so unlucky, whole 25 years we have to study study and study, graduate, get a job and then what then its job job and more job. I do not sometimes get time even to wear what's there in my wardrobe. I am so jealous of you all.....bohoo bohoo hoo

This is one of the few gear WIWs on YLF, and I love seeing them each and every time (I've seen ones from Anna, Alaskagirl and you.) Picture #5 of you with your daughter on the cabin porch is so artistic. It needs to be framed and treasured, I think.

Thanks Shannon, cjh, Jem, Anne, Rae, Harmonica, Christieanne, Cheryl, San, Isis, BethAnn, Manidipa, Fashionista and Denise!

It really was a lot of work AND a lot of fun. I think it would have been even more fun if they hadn't stayed up till 9:30-10 pm and woken up at 5:30-6 am both nights, LOL. I guess that's just part of the excitement of camping! They had fun watching the campfire and roasting the marshmallows. Hopefully it will get easier to camp with them once they get older, but for the first time it went relatively well!

The location was gorgeous. Unfortunately it's very hard to get into as a result--we just lucked into some last minute cancellations but normally it books up 7 months out. I PM'ed a couple of you who asked about the location.

Rae and Manidipa, I agree, even with my gear I do love color! Denise, yes, I wasn't sure whether I should be posting my old gear--these are some of those older than 5-10 year items in my closet but hopefully gear doesn't date as quickly? ;) I actually love seeing Una's gear WIWs (I missed Anna's) because it usually involves incredible scenery too.

Awesome! I have a camping gear capsule and much of it has been the same for 15 years. You look way better than I ever do! Love those views! Our pictures are mostly of us huddled morosely around a campfire in the rain. Your kids have a great life!

The whole family has smiles that light up the screen!

How wonderful that you were close enough to go home for naps! I think that is an excellent idea for first time camping with little ones. I've toyed around with the idea of camping in our backyard, but we have fire ants unfortunately. : (

Could you please PM me with the camp location details too? We have family near the Bay Area and that would be a fun thing to plan.

That is the most fun! Don't worry about coordinating your outfit- just make sure the kids have a blast. Next time be sure to include a compass to start teaching them how to get around when they are in unfamiliar places. We got ours for under $10 at http://www.hurricanecamping.com and our daughter now is comfortable enough after three trips to try her own GPS which she is dying to try this summer when we visit Mt Rainier, Wa
