WIW 6/4: Eggplant and turquoise

Sorry for the blurry photos! I felt like trying a new color combo for me (eggplant and turquoise--what do you think of it?) and also to try to spring-ify this fallish purple dress a bit. The outfit follows my rubric--color (purple & turquoise), matchy matchy (turquoise in the necklace, belt, shoes and bag), pattern (bag and belt), fitted (belt) and flair (patent turquoise pumps--everyone kept praising my shoes today--they are definitely statement pumps!). I felt pretty fab at work today. But now that I look at the pics, I'm feeling less impressed. Ugh, my belly! That extra 5 lb is not helping matters, and the belt is a little too tight (I bought it on eBay and I wanted a M, but only S was available). Also not sure if the cognac jacket was the right topper or not. Oh well, at least I had fun posing with DD in our dresses!

Always appreciate your comments and advice!

Your DD is just so adorable!

I like the cognac with the plum and the turquoise in theory but I think the shoes might be too bright for me with the muted plum. I could see a different blue working - teal for sure.
Love that you tried to mix in a new color combo (and it was a dreary day so nice and cheery!) and I don't think your dress has any fit issues to bother you.

What does the dress look like without the belt, Natalie? It seems like it would still have enough shape to give the same silhouette. I feel super-uncomfortable in this clingy type of dress in general, and a belt would send me over the edge with having to fuss all day. I ADORE the fun color combination and your daughter is the cutest thing EVAR.

I like this outfit a lot, but I can understand your issues. I love the colour combo. Never thought about pairing eggplant and turquoise myself, so I'll keep a note of this for inspiration (need some turquoise). The leather jacket is fab, but maybe a lighter colour would speek more of spring? As for belly issues, it could be just the photoes, or maybe some kind of spanx that is not tight would help. As for the belt, is it possible to make some extra holes to make it more like an M? And DD is absolutely adorable! Best accessory ever!

I'm not an expert, so eagerly waiting for others to chime in

Like Christie, am a little bit hesitant about the shoes. Do think teal might complement the purple a little better, or maybe green --- but keeping the necklace and bag.

GP you look glorious as always....

But DD sure steals my heart :)

I love the dress and necklace but agree about trying teal shoes :-)

Like momma like DD. Fashionable and chic.
Lovely shoes and I see why you got praises for them. Nice and fresh combination. Lovely dress, jacket and that bag. You look lovely and your DD is my fav. model from the past pictures with those shoes on. Love to her.

Natalie, I guess I'm in the minority but I don't find the color of the dress the most flattering on you. I like the turquoise to lift the dress color and it adds interest. In would be keenntonsee the dress without the belt. You and DD look so glam.

I was looking at your outfit until I saw your daughter and got completely side tracked, she is so adorable.
I like the color combination and even the leather jacket as a topper. As Deborah mentioned I got thinking that I have seen you in brighter colors than tha eggplant that made you look shinier, so to speak.I know that photographs change colors and they are not the best to make this kind of considerations but I know for myself that I like he way how burgundy an eggplant work for me in winter but they are a bit heavy in spring/ summer.Just wondering hat your thoughts are on this one.

What an adorable little mom and daughter pairing! You two look so cute together. I want to love the new color combo but I'm not sure about pairing something so summery with something so fall-like. I feel like you need something more summery in the top part of your outfit to bookend the shoes. Perhaps a white denim jacket on top or a bright scarf?

I love this! Very pretty all around.

If your *main* goal is to look springy, though, I think maybe you need larger pops of "spring" colors- this is possibly why some are saying that the shoes look off. Although the turqoise is springy, the rest of the colors - brown, cognac, eggplant, burgundy - are very Fall.

What about the eggplant dress with the turqoise shoes, yellow bag, and white jacket?

I love the color combo! And your DD is so cute :)

I'm with Una about trying the dress without the belt -- it is pretty clingy, and perhaps would drape better without the belt.

Congrats on a fab new colour combo. I suspect that your tummy issue is more noticeable in a photo than in real life as things look so different in motion. Nothing a pair of spanx or going beltless couldn't fix.

Agree with Rita and Rae! To springify, you'd want the dress to read as the only autumnal shade. So bright shoes, bright or denim jacket, bright bag. You and your daughter are soooo cute together ^^ The cognac is super fab with the eggplant (and maybe also some teal or emerald) for fall though.

I could also see yellow or goldenrod shoes with this dress - just saw a home decor fabric this afternoon with dark eggplant and golden yellow colors and it reminded me of your dress!

love christieanne's idea about adding yellow here, maybe one of your bags either D&B or fossil? i think angie's two brights formula (shoes and bag bright) could help lighten the fall mood of the dress... i have been busy so have lurked and not posted as much as id like and wanted to say the jason wu MOTG was great the other day too!
