WIW 8/4 & 8/13 Shadow style: Goth & Punk

A couple of outfits from my shadow persona, the one with darker, tough/edgy elements. Although someone mentioned in a previous thread that they think my "shadow" style persona is fast becoming my primary style persona! These two outfits shared the same Helmut Lang-ish black zipper top (actually it's from Target!), I just switched out the bottoms and shoes and bracelets. The skirt outfit reminds me a bit of Goth, with the Victorian-ish grey and black lace print skirt, and the plaid pants remind me of punk. I wore these both to work...it may be pushing the envelope of work appropriateness a bit, but I'm trying to do a more grown-up version of Goth/punk. Someone at work said "You look so fall-like today!" It's because it's chilly and foggy in the mornings at my house so I feel like dressing in long-sleeve tops because I'm cold. And I'm on Team Wear so I'm trying to wear all of my new NAS purchases. But then when I get to work it's hot and sunny, so my outfit looks a little out of place. I know black is more associated with winter, but hey if you can wear white in winter, why not black in summer? I did at least push up the sleeves.

Is it time for me to start thinking about a new style moniker? Demure bombshell doesn't quite describe the new direction I've been exploring lately. And do you think I have dual style personas? Which one is primary? I feel like I have a very ladylike Kate Spade side with the florals, bright colors, prints, etc. but then also a darker tougher side with the monochrome black and grey, studs, zippers, leather, silver/gunmetal cuffs, etc. It's like I turn into a vampire at night, LOL! Would love to hear what you think of my style persona(s).

Love the version with plaid pants-totally hot!!

Both looks are fab GP! You really own your shadow persona looks, so maybe you should have a bit of a descriptor change. Urban, Gothic Bombshell? Ladylike Urban Goth? If I think of any more I'll pop back.

Oh wait, how about Ladylike Punk Princess?

I love this so much, I just bookmarked it so I can copy your skirt outfit!

Between you and Suz, you have me considering plaid jeans.

  • Aubergine replied 9 years ago

Love these, especially the first! I have the same skirt, so I always like seeing what other people wear with it, and I'm all about wearing black in summer.

Not sure about style monikers, but I think your outfits still have a ladylike feel even when you're wearing something darker and edgier. Something to do with the coordination and the careful attention to accessories, maybe? So I think your style seems cohesive even though there's a broad range in there.

Absolutely love #1. You wear black very well. xo

Love that black top!  Target, you say?  I'll have to look around next time I'm there.  I was thinking similar to Diane with Ladylike Vampire or Ladylike Goth.  Something along those lines at least.

Both great outfits on you - I think you wear this style really well!

These looks are fabulous. I love both of them. I have no idea, ever, about these style names. I could never do it for home decor, either.

Thanks so much Fuzzylogic, Diane, LBD, Aubergine, Angie, Sara, Texstyle, Alana & Meredith!

Sara, you won't find this top any more, I bought it at Target a couple of years ago:

I love the descriptors you are all coming up with! Fun to think about moving in a new style direction!

Diane G has some good monikers...I'm still drinking coffee so no help there!

I love the first photo too - that Target top has me drooling! So similar to the pricey HL one :)

I love these outfits! Your shadow side is FAB!

These are great outfits GP.  Can't answer the style persona question... maybe it's okay to have two? :)

  • Peri replied 9 years ago

I love that term! Thanks...that's the first I heard it. I've always wondered about those posts where people say things like "that just doesn't look like your style". Why aren't we allowed to have some variety in our styles. Now I've got a word for it...shadow styles.

Love that Helmut Lang-ish top - fab with both the pencil skirt and the plaid pants (which look AMAZING on you BTW).  Both of these outfits work really well.

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

What a fantastic top on you, Natalie. I also love the new jeans!!!

Such a great hi-low mix in that first outfit. Whatever you call it, it rocks!

I don't see why you can't have 2 style personas, depending on your mood. They're both recognisably you with the rich fabrics, texture mixing, more body con silhouettes (I don't mean body con in the sense of tight, just in the sense of flattering your figure beautifully), and matchy matchy elements. :D

To me, this still fits your persona, kinda like your dark side. you still look a little bombshell, but a little more femme fatale. I really like it.
