WIW 9/13: Quadruple lemming! And not again--poor DD!

I have been so super busy the past couple of weeks. I am so behind in WIW's--lots I wanted to share but never had time with work, call, school starting, and the baby being super fussy and waking up all night. So I'll just start with today and work my way backward later if I have time!

Wearing Rae's Spiegel lemming jacket with her Brahmin bag, Angie's VC
striped tube skirt and Una's gold OTBT booties to top it off. Quadruple
lemming! Thanks Rae and Una and Angie for the inspiration!

I fell hard for Rae's (and Una's and Marley's) Brahmin bag, especially since I had the perfect matchy matchy skirt to wear with it! Someone had to do the matchy matchy and you know it had to be me! :) I LOVE this Brahmin bag. Very Kate Spade-ish. The details are so interesting--the croc texture is just divine. I see what Rae meant about wanting to pet her bag all day. And the lining is very soft and well made. Ms. Scarlet has a new friend!

I thought about doing a K/R on the booties, but then decided I am keeping them and just wore them anyways. The metallic gold is burnished so it's not too bright/over the top. The footbed is nicely padded and the heel height is not too high. My feet fit perfectly so I didn't have to wear socks, but I think wearing it with no-show socks would work too. I know Rae had trouble with sweaty feet in these--I did notice a slight bit of clamminess at the ankle but my feet weren't sweaty. I have skinny ankles (9") and maybe have a bit of flowerpot syndrome in the closeup side view (5), but not noticeable from the front and it's nothing compared to usual (like those Munro booties!). So there you have it--I totally second Una's recommendation for these...so comfy! These are going to be hospital workhorses for me. Like wearing Dansko clogs, but more stylish. Oh, and I found out OTBT stands for Off the Beaten Track. Cool!

Mini-updates on the kiddos. DD is 6 and just started 1st grade. Unfortunately DD was rolling down a grassy hill and twisted her arm in a funny way and hurt her elbow. They couldn't tell on the X rays if it was broken or not--they think probably not, but because of the location at the growth plate they decided to be conservative and put her in a cast for 3 weeks. Poor DD! Not again! (She broke her clavicle last year and was in a sling for 6 weeks, same arm). And I had just signed her up for gymnastics. So the gymnastics and swimming lessons are on hold. Hopefully she gets her cast off, the day before we go to Hawaii. Otherwise she is going to be very upset if she can't swim there! Just wanted to point out her love of extreme pattern mixing--ikat dress plus floral jeans plus strawberry shoes. She always chooses her own outfits. And love her selection of cobalt blue with neon green stripe for her cast. She's got her own sense of style already!

DS1 is 3.5 and is doing well in preschool. He's such a sweetie pie. Here's a pic of him canoeing with daddy.

DS2 is 6 months now and almost crawling--he does a combination of rolling and army crawl to scoot across the room. He can grab everything--I need to clean up the house and baby proof! Unfortunately I found out the hard way that he has an egg allergy (he started waking up every hour at night screaming and developed a rash after I ate an omelette), and now I remembered that he did have a mild reaction on his skin tests to dairy, soy and egg. So now my diet is even more restricted. Gah! Makes it so tough to eat, especially when we go out! But good news, we just started solids (avocado and squash so far). The kids are having lots of fun feeding him!

LOL on the quad lemming!  I'm not sure on the striped bag with the striped skirt, but I know you do hyper matchy sometimes so I'll chalk it up to your personal style ;)
Love these boots on everyone so far.  And I don't even like gold!

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Quadrupile lemming!! I die four times over. The booties look amazing with it! And of course the BAG.

You are totally supermom, Natalie. DD sounds like she may be a super active tomboy - so curious to see where that goes over time. And DS2 is already doing an army crawl. Hardcore! Poor things with the egg allergy... hang in there it won't be long now...

Sorry you've been having a tough tiring time Natalie. Poor DD! She looks super cute in her outfit and cast. I can't believe it's six months since you had little DS! His siblings are sooo helpful feeding him :)
You look stunning as always and of course you had to do the matchy-matchy thing with the Brahmin bag :) Spiegel and booties are looking good and I like how the hardware on the bag tones nicely with the booties.

OMG, DD is a warrior in the making. My son plays football at recess and comes home with some kind of injury every day.... Sounds like she will be that kind of kid.

Look at you, though! You look fab! The funniest thing is that I did exactly the opposite - I wore the striped skirt the other day and had to change out the bag so I wouldn't be matchy. :)

So glad you love the boots! Funny that you and I have all four of these items.

I bow to you, Queen Matchy and Queen Working Mom. I don't know how you do it all! Sorry about the fussiness - no sleep is absolutely no fun. I love all your lemming items.

I love the matchy bag and the boots; you look great! I realize this doesn't help with swimming lessons, as a casted arm restricts movement, but have you considered something like this for the trip if the cast is not off?

I bought one for my DS2 when he broke his arm at the start of summer one year. I was able to take him to the pool and he could even go to the pool in gym class using it. And then, later, DD had a similar injury (probably would have been fine splinted, but it was close enough to the growth plate to cast it for safety) and also used the cast cover. They are waterproof and can be fully submerged.

    You have a beautiful family!

PS Poor DD! Fingers crossed she's out of the cast before Hawaii!

  • Vicki replied 10 years ago

What an adorable bunch of youngsters you have to keep you smiling and on your toes!  Sad news about DD, but her cast sure is cute and hopefully she'll be on the mend for your family vacation very soon.

Don't  you just love that VC striped tube skirt?!  I was quite interested to see that your hem drops much lower than mine, for some reason, and you're taller than I am.

Your Rae purse and Una booties are divine and, hey, there's nothing wrong with being a lemming in these parts.  :)

P.S.  Sorry about your reduced diet plan for the moment, but avocado and squash are yummy!

Your children are absolutely adorable and your daughter appears to have her own sense of style already.  So cute.

I love the lemming outfit but think I would prefer it with a solid bag in a color.  Sorry.  The booties are such a gorgeous metallic and that skirt fits you perfectly.  I wasn't following the WIWs for a while and then saw one of your a few weeks ago and was amazed at how fabulous you look.  No one would guess you had a baby so recently.

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

Whoa. That's a lot of lemmingness - I think it's interesting how you have so many different combinations of clothing. I have been on rotation with the same staff doctors for three months now, and it's been very interesting - especially since they all dress well. I can tell who is a capsule dresser and who is an outfit dresser and which one is a grab-whatever-I-can-find-before-my-kids-scream dresser.

    Tee hee.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Wow -- that bag is so amazing. And the boots are also fab. You are in matchy matchy lemming heaven and deserve the YLF Queen title for both!

Your DD is adorable with her cast. So sorry she hurt herself, though.

Pictures 9 and 10 had me laughing out loud!  Those are just the best kids pictures I've seen in ages.  Hilarious and sweet and a document of a moment and time.

Love your new OTBT boots, so fab!  And the outfit is styled beautifully, everything flatters and reflects modern trends in the best way.

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

Wow, that's a whole lot of good news and bad news!  You look super fab, as usual, through it all!  And the littles are just the cutest!!  It looks like it will take a lot more than a casted arm to dampen DD's spirits!!

  • Scarlet replied 10 years ago

You just have the most photogenic family! So sorry about DDs arm, but hopefully it heals up nicely for Hawaii. You are looking fabulous as always. It's a great bag. I don't know if I would wear it with the skirt, but like Mo said, it's your thing! Love the boots on you.

  • Adelfa replied 10 years ago

I love the bag with the skirt, and also how the boots are unexpectedly nude-ish. My DD2 had/has serious allergies (from infancy) so I totally relate :-(

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Natalie-you are nothing short of amazing. Your life is hectic and yet you always look fantastic and have so much fun with your family.

You love matchy-matchy and wear it with confidence. I love it! Carry on with your lemmingness!

And DD is one tough cutie-patootie!

  • Isis replied 10 years ago

Your kids are so cute; they steal the show!  I can't believe how fast they are growing!!!!!

I love your whole outfit, from the jacket to the boots to the skirt.  You look so fab, so Natalie!

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

Oh Natalie - your babies are absolutely the cutest ever!  I love the pics of them - thank you for sharing!  Also - your outfit is great.  Is that handbag just the best or what?  It has become a game-changer in my wardrobe.  I love the way that you've paired it with the striped tube skirt - I would never be able to pull that off - but it works for you.  Also, the Spiegel jacket is a great topper for you and I love the boots.  I've got two out of the 4 items that you are wearing - after seeing your outfit, I'm thinking about jumping over the cliff again - with those boots!

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

Poor DD. But she's so cheerful! A trooper.

I love, love the double circus stripe, bag and skirt. That's just brilliant.
