WIW 9/29-30 Gotta keep 'em separated...denim and camo revisited

I wore a Gap denim moto and camo jeans together (#3), but it didn't feel totally me (too tomboy) and DH didn't like the camo. Still not sure what I will do with the jeans, but I wanted to try your suggestions to split them up and pair them with more ladylike pieces so they felt more like my style. What do you think, are these better?
1. Denim moto with triple floral...WHBM floral jeans plus Kate Spade floral bag and sneakers. I've got the matchy matchy and ladylike print that make it more me.
2. I call this my "huntress" look...just need a bow and arrow! Nikita meets Katniss Everdeen...

Hi Natalie, my DH doesn't get my camo skinnies either but I really like them. And I like yours on you too:) I say pair them with items that are "you". I don't know if this helps but here are a couple of stylings I tried with mine. Mine are grey and work well with my overall colour palette. I like your stylings and think they look great on you.

I also have #3 pinned on a Pinterest Board and it seems to be a very popular pin...cool styling for camo pants! I could see you working this look to your advantage:)

Wow Natalie!  #2 is just drop dead gorgeous!  I love the way you've styled the camos with the burgandy - if DH doesn't like the camos in this outfit, then he's probably not ever going to like them!  ;-)  I think that pairing denim with camo (like in #3) is probably always going to feel not like you - but the denim with the flowers in #1 is great!  Also - what is the handbag in #2?  It looks gorgeous!  Oh, I see Deborah has posted some stylings of her camos!  She has definitely made them her own - I think you have done that same thing in #2!

Ooh, my favorite is the camo with burgundy! Makes them look so posh.

Love the camo with the burgundy so chic.

I think the camo and burgundy is great!

i was so taken with the matching jeans and bag that i didn't even notice the denim moto! anyway, i do like this a lot. i also think that the moto would work with trousers as a way to take a business casual look to the casual side of the  equation.
    and the burgundy and camo--genuis!

I like your outfits and your title ;)

I like the denim/camo look.  I have the same GAP camo pants and also got the blue camo version.  I have worn mine with contrast colors.  I like the burgundy idea and will try that out today

OMG.  I love number 2!!  You look amazing.  All I see is class.

I LOVE how you have softened the look of the camo and made it more feminine in 2. I've always loved that sweater since I first saw you wearing it while you were pregnant. Would your laceup boots (Docs?) work with this too or is the color wrong? Maybe there would be too much going on with the laces *and* the camo.

The second look is very cute!

    I agree #2 is a total winner!

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

I love the camo and burgundy look!  The denim moto also looks good with the floral jeans.  I think this is a good way to wear both pieces in a more "you" way.

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

    #2 is great!

I love the way you've split these up - especially the camo + burgundy.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

The camo and burgundy is fab!   I think you absolutely can wear both of these pieces.  The key is whether DH's poison eye can be cured and how much it matters to you.  I have a bit of poison eye for a lot of denim jackets so that one is harder for me.  But you of all people can femme anything up.

    I love #2!

    LOVE that song!  :)

I like your idea on girly-ing up the camo pants.  Wish I had suggestions on how, but I'm sure you will figure out a way, your style seems to tend toward more feminine so I'm sure you can come up with something!

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

I *love* how you've feminized the camo pants! That outfit looks great, and more "you" than with a denim jacket. Maybe hubby will come around after all when he sees that!
Personally, I still wear outfits that my husband doesn't love, just not usually when we're going out together.

Love your camo with burgundy. Has SH seen this version? I like Deborah's ideas that make the camo look ladylike too.

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

I think you have the right of it, more *you* elements. Polished shoes, heels, maybe DH will come around.

    Thanks everyone!

It was foggy and drizzly at home in the morning when I left, but when I got to work it was hot and sunny, so I was sweltering in the sweater. It's more Indian summer than fall here. I guess I'm jumping the gun with the fall outfits. It's just hard to tell where I live--it's always cool and foggy in the mornings at home.

Thanks Marley, Una, Parsley, Joy and Rachy--unfortunately I don't think DH will come around on the camo, he just has a poison eye for it. He did see me in it when I came home from work, but didn't say anything. It's OK, he doesn't have to like everything I wear. But I admit it does kind of take some of the fun out of it if he hates it. I didn't think camo had such a negative association, but I could see why that might be the case. I'm not the hunting/military type, so for me it's just a fashion statement.

Deborah, thanks for the visuals, that is very helpful. You look great in your grey camo skinnies and I love it with the colorful  And the graphic T is a good suggestion.
Marley--the bag is a Betsey Johnson burgundy patent quilted hearts satchel that I got at DSW. I believe the style was called Yours Mine & Ours or something.

Chadya, thanks and I can't wait to see your version!
Kkards, thanks for the suggestion. I don't wear trousers often, so I'd probably try pairing the denim moto with a full skirt next to femme up the jacket.
Pil, thanks for the suggestion! I think the brown lace up Fryes would definitely work with the outfit too. The burgundy sweater is a little bit baggy on me, I don't know if it's because I sized up or it stretched out or both. I still plan to wear it though because I really like it! It's good for luxe-ing up an outfit.

Thanks Rae, Caro, Ceit, Jules, Gabrielle, Neel, Amiable, Sara L, Amy, AviaMariah, Brenda & ABC!
