WIW: Double dose of animal print (funny update with DH's reaction)

WIW to work today. Speaking of Halogen pencil skirts, here's mine in red! I wore it with a Vince Camuto leopard print pussy bow sleeveless blouse that I picked up at the Rack online (thanks for the rec Rita!) that I tucked into the skirt for a "bombshell secretary" vibe.

Here are three choices for the black top layer (since it's too cold for sleeveless)--which do you like best? I picked the sweater cardigan since it's cold but I also brought the leather jacket and Anne Fontaine shirt in my car in case you like those better. And my leopard print pumps with the strap and the red trim ties it all together. Plus I'm carrying the red Fossil tote. Is this too much animal print? I brought some black kitten heels in case my feet get tired of the heels but I'm in a matchy matchy mood right now!

1. Just the top & skirt
2. Gap thin black sweater cardigan on top
3. Tahari black leather jacket on top
4. Black Anne Fontaine shirt on top
5. Black kitten heels in case of foot fatigue

Comments and suggestions welcome! Thanks!

Nice! I actually like the double animal print - it bookends, but since the spots are different, i don't feel as if it's matchy matchy. I personally like the leather jacket best with the outfit... I do love me a structured jacket!

I like all of your toppers and shoes, so it's really hard to pick one. But my #1 choice would be the leather jacket, followed by the sweater. The pointy shoes are an excellent back up; I do like the leopard shoes with the top, it's cool pattern mixing.

  • goldenpig replied 12 years ago

OK, I'll change it up and wear the jacket this afternoon! :)

  • Lisa replied 12 years ago

    I like #2 and #3 best.

  • lyn67 replied 12 years ago

Nr 3 is the best to my eye! Edgy and sophisticated! welldone!
(too bad, now I want a red strechy pencil for myself, too:-)))

  • Queen Mum replied 12 years ago

    I like #3 best also

I really like it with the leather jacket! I know I always feel like leopard with leather is a bit much, but it is a cool look. You look beautiful in that blouse... I don't remember recommending it to you but it is perfect. I would probably pop an obi belt on to make that skirt look like it starts higher up, kind of like your tweed and leather skirt. I have to stay out of the double pattern discussion. I can't decide if I like it or if it's too much. Either way you look very pretty today :)

I like the it with leather jacket and I like it with either shoe, leopard or black, they both look good to me!

  • Mo replied 12 years ago

I also like the leather jacket best. I also wouldn't mind seeing a brown topper instead of black. ;)

  • Mochi replied 12 years ago

3 best. Great look and not overdone at all with the animal prints (because the shoes provide such a small dosage?). Anyway, great look!

  • nancylee replied 12 years ago

I love #2 and #3 best. You look fabulous in that animal print.

  • Sylvie replied 12 years ago

Leather jacket. It adds just the right amount of edge.

  • Reneeb replied 12 years ago

I like #2 and #3 best but the black ponity toe do elongate your leg line. I wear my leopard blouse with my Halogen leopard pumps.

Oy! I swoon!! Love times a million!!

Another vote for the leather jacket!

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

    I LOVE #1, #2 and #3.

    KILLER

I like #1 #2 and #3 best. Lovely outfit choices. Ladylike and fun. Also, I love the hairstyle you're sporting. Works admirably with the outfit!

  • MINI replied 12 years ago

#2 is the best in my opinion :) Why don't you try a black simple, plain pencil skirt with your beautiful silky animal print top cuz animal print is very eye catching already, so strong color bottom like red, it might be a just too much. I think if you try your blouse with black skirt (a simple statement jewerly would make it even better), it'd be super sexy, killer outfit on you for sure.

YUMMY! I love it best without any jacket and with the leather jacket. GREAT outfit!

  • goldenpig replied 12 years ago

Thanks all for the boost! I tried several versions (1, 2, & 3) throughout the day and got lots of compliments about my outfit and my shoes.

A few funny observations from today:
    1) My feet were getting tired after standing up in the heels for 3 hours in the afternoon but I stuck it out because I liked hearing people rave about the shoes, LOL! I even wore the leopard heels to the post office (to mail my YLF secret santa gift ;-)) and people waiting in line behind me were complimenting on my shoes. Whenever I wear these heels or the Chie Mihara sandals everyone takes notice!

    2) A drug rep complimented me on my outfit and wanted to know where I bought the shoes and top. This is high praise because usually the drug reps are very sharply dressed compared to us doctors--their job is to look attractive and sell things. They're usually in nice suits and fashion-y ensembles. When I was in residency training you could always tell who the drug reps were because they were so dressy & sharp looking compared to us scrub and fleece wearing slobs. If we ever dressed remotely like that we would get teased about looking like a drug rep or get asked if we were going on a fellowship interview. So today the drug rep and I were chatting about clothes and she was asking me where I liked to shop, etc. I thought it was so funny that I am now dressing so differently that I am now in the "drug rep leagues", haha.

    3) I came home and kicked off my shoes (aaahhh!). But I waited to change until DH got home. I am starting him on the animal print desensitization program since faux fur is going to have to wait (too advanced for him, if you remember our recent fashion quarrel). I wanted to show him the animal print top and see what his reaction would be. But, only one piece of animal print at a time so I don't overload his senses! When he came home, he said, "Hi Bam Bam!" I think he meant I looked like Pebbles from the Flintstones. He kept teasing me with caveman jokes and asking whether I was going to drag him off by the hair. But, at least when I asked, he said he didn't hate the top. So, a minor success! I'll keep working on his fashion tolerance...but at a gradual pace. :)

Love your story about your DH! Your outfits are great - I like the pattern mixing and LOVE the leather jacket. But - I'm wondering about the fit of the skirt. Does it feel like it fits you OK? It looks too big to me in the pics. Is it?????

  • Ginkgo replied 12 years ago

Hmmmm....sounds like he wanted you to drag him off by the hair! Could be a new successful strategy for animal pattern desensitization.

I like Modgrl's obi belt suggestion.

  • Scarlet replied 12 years ago

I always thought Pebbles was so cute :) That is also very funny about trading tips with the drug rep. You look great!

  • goldenpig replied 12 years ago

Marley, it's true the skirt might be a tad on the big side (I'm usually a size 4 or a 6 and this one is a 6) but because I'm an apple, the 4 clung to my belly and made me look fat or pregnant and at least the 6 skims my belly and hangs straight. And I tried the petite version (I posted pics earlier and the reaction was split on whether the regular or petite looked better) but the petite was shorter than I was comfortable with for work so I went with the longer midi-like length. I feel much more comfortable in it with the extra room and length. I just ordered the yellow raisin in a size 6 as well, and with the posts on the Halogen skirt thread saying that it's running smaller now, maybe that one will fit a little better.

  • rae replied 12 years ago

Haha, those hubby desensitization programs have been sweeping the nation lately! Glad he doesn't hate it - I'm sure he'll come around. :)

  • velvetychocolate replied 12 years ago

I love the updates - so fun! And the fact that a drug rep was asking where you like to shop is quite something, don't you think? I know they dress very well, and I'm not surprised that you're officially in the drug rep leagues.

So cute about your husband's comment too :)

Animal Print Desensitization Program is it?
