WIW Election week

We always like to take the kids with us when we vote, so they can see the importance of civic duty in action (and they love to get their "I voted" stickers). So we don't do absentee ballots and go to the polls as a family on Election Day. (See prior post on primary day, when DS2 was upset that we told him we were "going boating" but he didn't get to ride in a boat: http://goldenpig.lookfab.com/p.....ng-boating). I was too fat to fit in my pantsuit anymore :P so instead I wore my most patriotic outfit with red, white and blue, complete with glasses necklace and red spiked Wonder Woman cuff (because women can be smart and tough at the same time). DD liked her President Barbie (she said she wants to switch the glasses to the Asian one so it will look like her). The kids were so excited to vote with us. Not going to lie, we were all completely shocked at the results (especially given where we live). The next day I wore all black in mourning. Then today I decided to wear all white in honor of the suffragists who fought to get women the right to vote, and to symbolize hope for the future. Circle bracelet to symbolize that we are all interconnected, and necklace with the initials of my children to remind myself who I am fighting for to make this world a better place! (First thing I did was make a donation to my local women's domestic violence shelter). We can all do this together!

PS I'd also like to introduce our new kittens Melon and Cranberry (Cranberry is the black and white one). They are brother and sister. I wanted to adopt the third sibling Peach so that each of the kids could have a cat, but DH put his foot down and said two was plenty. :( They are quite the basket of adorables, though! :)

Great outfits, you look lovely with your wonderful kids, cats are so sweet.

All outfits look great. You truly are a superhero, just like the action figures. I'm sending you a big hug for your awesome parenting skills! Your kids are lucky to have such great parents, and they are clearly very smart and fashionable. If you had a third cat you would have had a wonderful fruit salad and killer rodent control! Paper grocery bags and kittens can provide hours of entertainment.

Very nice. I like your Election Day outfit best, and your family looks great. Those are some cute and mischievous looking kitties.

You look lovely in your Election Day ensemble. I think it is so wonderful that you are including your children in the voting process -- such a fabulous civics lesson. I like your idea of wearing white to symbolize hope for the future and to honor those women who fought for our rights. (May they never be forgotten.)

I have MISSED you and your adorable family, Natalie. Cranberry and Melon fit right is - being just as SUPER CUTE as the rest of you. I think you should go get Peach.

I am extremely sad about Hillary not winning the election with you.

Great outfits!  I wore black on Wed too :(  So disappointing.  I wish I had thought to wear white though.  What a great idea.  The white outfit is so elegant and clean looking.  Cute kitties!

    Great pics!
I understand your wearing black the next day in mourning. Then love how the next day you wore white as a symbol of hope!

    Beautiful family and sentiments!!

You look wonderful in all your outfits.  I'm so glad you took your kids to see you vote.  I worked as a pollworker this year and it was lovely to see the kids "helping" their parents and learning about voting.

I also wore all black on Wednesday and wish I had thought to wear whtie.

You have a beautiful family and your outfit choices are superb. Thank you for taking your children to "vote". A great way for  children to understand the importance of voting is by seeing their parents taking part in the process.

They are indeed a basket of adorables! Love that, and your outfits.

Love your outfits, you really do the all-black and all-white perfectly. We try to go vote as a family too (my kids are now old enough to vote), it's a very satisfying activity. Although at times also disappointing...

Your kids are so adorable.  Great idea to go as a family to vote.  Such an important lesson.  I love the idea of the white pantsuit and circle bracelet.
    Such sweet kitties.

I love your wearing white as a symbol of hope for the future. You're doing a wonderful thing involving your kids in the voting process.

Your voting day outfit looks great, and you look as slender as a willow wand.

And those KITTENS!! They are so adorable.

Wonderful choices, and totally agreeing with your reasoning, Natalie.

I love your new kitties. One more would not hurt.

It's important to teach your children to participate. My daughter is 17, very politically aware (civil rights are her topic of greatest interest) and was deeply disappointed that voting age is not 16 and up.

Love your voting outfit. Way cool jacket. And the kitties are adorable!!

Your photos are heart-warming. My grandson, not yet two, wanted to "go see people vote". and was proud of his sticker. He did not get to go with his parents to a local protest last night.

You made me feel a lot better.  Thank you!  Your beautiful children give me hope for our future.

I am just reading this now as I too have been in mourning this week.  I have always taken my children to vote with me and took my 14 year old daughter this year.  I love your colorful and patriotic outfit!!!  I also did red and blue and then took to wearing black the entire week....a first for me as I love color and high contrast.  Thank you so much for sharing.....makes me feel not so alone in my sadness!

Beautiful outfits and super cute children, and lovely new kittens. I like the asymmetric neckline on the black outfit.

You all look like you're ready to shoot a 4th of July commercial.

I love your new fur babies.
