WWW for Halloween: Samurai, three ninjas and a Japanese princess

Here is what we wore this year for Halloween. We love family themes. DH is totally into making his own costumes and spends weeks working on them. He has always wanted to make his own samurai armor.  This costume was the hardest yet--he worked on it day and night cutting and melting plastic pieces, painting them, drilling hundreds of holes, and spending hours lacing the pieces together. He even made a samurai helmet and a mask. It was touch and go whether he was going to finish in time but he did it! I am so impressed with his handmade samurai costume. I wore a kimono with an obi belt, umbrella, fan and the traditional sandals. The three kids all wanted to be ninjas. DD says that when she grows up she wants to be a detective, and inventor and a ninja. I asked her how many kids she wants when she grows up and she said "None, because if I'm a ninja I can't carry around kids with me--they'll slow me down!" She even colored some ballet slippers with a black Sharpie, and went to ballet dressed as a ninja. We had a lot of fun this year. Happy Halloween!

Your husband is such a good sport about dressing up.  I am so impressed with his samurai costume.  I had to make one for DS1 when a sixth grader (12) for his school project.  We used fake leather and all the lacing took forever.  In those days he could take a sword to school.    You all look terrific.

You guys look great! I can semi-relate as my DH spent the last 2 weeks turning our garage into a Mad Scientist Lab for the Trick-or-treaters. It's a new theme each year (We had a ghost pirate ship off the front of the house one year) He also finished as the first kids arrived.

Fantastic - a beautiful ninja family.

  • catgirl replied 8 years ago

Outstanding as always. Your DH should understand your fashion obsession given his own drive to make this costume!

Amazing! I'm really impressed by DH's samurai armor! I've seen the real thing up close - my dad's best friend owns a set (he's a collector/sometime dealer in Japanese artifacts) and it is displayed in his house! Kinda scary if you're not expecting to see it there, I gotta say....). Anyway, your DH's facsimile is really very good!

And you look gorgeous and your kids are the most adorable ninjas ever!

Oh, my, how amazing! What cute, clever, fun, and impressive costumes. Your husband's creation is incredible, yes, and getting the whole family costumed so successfully is no small feat, either. I remember the Incredibles! I was blown away by that one, too!
