I cleaned up my closet! (Share your pics too!)

I know there's a million other things I should be doing, but in the middle of the night a couple of nights ago I was up after feeding the baby and in a fit of energy, cleaned up my closet. Everything was all jumbled up and messy. I reorganized everything by type (SS shirts, LS shirts, skirts, jackets, pants, dresses) and color within each group, reorganized all my shoes, etc. Nice and tidy now! I also purged about 20 pieces of clothing & gave them to my sister, even some things I had just bought this year but weren't 10s. Like a green & white Anthro empire waist tunic (7) that I bought thinking I would use it during pregnancy--it didn't last long because it quickly got too short for my expanding tummy, and then postpartum the empire waist wasn't the most flattering b/c I still looked pregnant, plus with the back tie it makes it too hard to nurse in this top--I can't lift it up. So I let it go, because it's not practical for me. I purged some things a couple months ago too (my sister took most of it). So now my closet is back in shape and while I still have too many clothes (over 30 skirts and 30 dresses, yikes!), at least it's not super over-stuffed and messy anymore--I can see everything now and find things. I know I need to fix the boots--I used to have paper towel rolls in there but somehow they've disappeared, so I need to collect more or pony up for real boot trees.

Anyone else want to post closet pics too?

Oh I wish I could share GP but mine is more like 3 racks!! Thank you tiny apartment :D
If my mommy had a closet like this I wqould be playing there all the time:) Do your kids do that too ?

I'm impressed by the organization and the contents. Doesn't it feel great to know what you have and where it is?!

  • elpgal replied 10 years ago

I 'cleaned' up mine this am. All I did was take a huge bunch and stick them in a giant Rubbermaid box so I can deal with it if/when I lose weight. You are an impressive woman, Natalie, to do this in the middle of the night!

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

Oh yes Ramya, DD and DS1 play in there all the time. They especially love my SHOES! (They fight over the turquoise Kate Spade pumps all the time).
Clara, part of the reason I cleaned up was because I was starting to not be able to find things anymore. It's great to be able to see again!

Elpgal, the middle of the night is the only time I have to do anything! I'm up anyways with the baby and sometimes it's hard to fall back asleep.

Mine is just recently UNorganized, planning for the move in 3 weeks. I have put the 'take with' stuff together in the middle and pushed the off season items to the far sides.
Usually I keep my closet in good order.  The only thing that gets neglected is the undies drawer when I'm super busy.  Instead of folding each pair and lining them up (yes I think I may have a problem! lol) they just get tossed in.

I am drooling over your shoe storage! My closet is so lacking in that department. Nice job.

I'm just going to go ahead and weep with envy now. Stupid tiny apartment closet. My current kitchen is smaller than my old closet. :(

Great idea organizing by color. If I really had colors, I think this would make dressing so much easier.

Shlurrrrp... oops sorry I just drooled all over my keyboard at the sight of your lovely well stocked and colourful closet. I'm afraid I now have closet envy! I just have 1 rail at around 6' long. not really photoworthy so I'll just admire yours for now :)
    Nice job at organising BTW.

I need to do a purge so badly but find it hard to let go of stuff. I think it would be a lot easier if I had someone to pass things on to. I am so amazed that you can do this in the middle of the night. Looks fantastic.

I organize by color and type and love my closet... I am jeaolous of the shoe and purse storage, as mine don't fit in the closet and are on bookshelves. Sharing my walk in with hubby, but that won't change anytime soon. . If only my kids would move out ,so I could dedicate a whole room as my dressing room.... biding my time and dreaming about it!

Great job, and I remember the nights of getting up with a baby and using the nights for cleaning!

I posted a thread like this when I reorganized my closet a while back, but I'm happy to share my photos again because they make me happy!  :)

Sooo jealous of your shoe storage. I think I need to build some shoe racks. Right now all my boots are in a box since moving in June, since there's nowhere to put them. I have all my summer shoes crammed on my one shoe rack, and have left no room for J's shoes. The poor man ....

  • cobaltblue replied 10 years ago

Wow! I see some of my favorite GP pieces peeking out in there. :)

  • Neelie replied 10 years ago

Great job!  Such a nice big closet!  I roll up old magazines to stuff in my tall boots, works great!

  • ManidipaM replied 10 years ago

Heh! I salute your energy and gumption. Most I do while up with the baby is post on the forum!

    GREAT job.

I'm in the same state as Mo's, in preparation for a move. Only everything has to come along. However, it does mean I can tell myself we will sort it when we fet there. It helps that I can still see things easily bar the knit tops (shelf overstuffed) and my undies (Mo, let's shake hands for the liner-upper club).

MaryK, those rainbow suits made me smile. Big fun! Talk about the bright spot in your morning!

this is my spring and summer, untouched, I didn't tidy it for the pics
1&2 are my pants, camis, cardis, skirts and blazers.
    3 are all my necklaces
4 is a peg board I made to match the wall outside the closet of belts and bracelets/pins
winter & fall is stored away until September or so

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Wow, Natalie, that is a dream of a closet. Mine is very small, not anything one could ever walk into, but just the width of a hanger wide. A, your jewelry display is wonderful. My fall/winter is stored away too. I think I'll have to change some things about Sept. 15 to add a few jackets and long sleeves to summer. Then I'll remove hot weather things a month or so later. Real winter will come later. It's the most complicated time of the year because of things I just wear in November through New Years, then put away.

Ah, there is nothing like an organized closet.

  • ManidipaM replied 10 years ago

Well, here's mine. Barring bags, of which I have very few (five, plus the laptop case and diaper bag you see here), and sleepwear---those live in two baskets on the other side of the room that act as 'tables' for the baby's clothes bin and toy box. My shoes sit in a small cabinet off the hallway too, shared with the spouse---I have a small spillover from the 10 slots i am allotted. Oh yes, a few things are away in the laundry bin and ironing basket too.

  • ManidipaM replied 10 years ago

Ooh, A--your necklace collection is awe-inspiring.

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

I see the Anthro owl top!!!!!!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Your closet is awe inspiring - and this applies to all you closet picture posters!

  • anne replied 10 years ago

Here's my dreadful one to make you all feel better by comparison! DH and I are sharing what was my wardrobe as s teenager. The summer clothes are in suitcases under the bed. And I am afraid I hardly ever close the drawers as they are so awkward. The little cupboard to one side was made out of a packing case by my grandfather when his kids were little.

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

GP the closet looks wonderful - not sure where you managed to find all the energy to do it! Thanks for sharing.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

Fab closet!  Nothing beats a well organized closet.  These are the same photos I posed on MaryK's thread a while back.  I just started reorganizing and purging because of all my new NAS items.
    #1-spring/summer
    #2-fall/winter
    #3-out of season shoes
#4-in season shoes on a rack shared with hubby, by the front door.
