K/R Tory Burch Beetle & Dragonfly Outfit

You all know how much I love
1) statement accessories
2) whimsical animal prints
3) hypermatchy
Well here is the perfect storm! I really love Tory Burch and have been drooling over her Fall 2013 collection (I even did a homage outfit here). So I finally found this Tory Burch outfit on sale and copied the ENTIRE outfit from their catalog model (16-17). These items are all Tory Burch (except my Kate Spade clutch). Beetle print blouse and sweater and dragonfly necklace and pumps. Is this too over the top (or too schoolgirl twee) to wear to work? I could NOT resist these gorgeous blue calf hair and satin pumps with a gold dragonfly on the heel! They are like a work of art! I wish they were an inch or two shorter, but for their heel height they don't seem too bad comfort-wise (sturdy heel and Mary Jane strap). I've been searching for the perfect pair of blue pumps--could these be it? But since these 4 inch heels are only for office days, I also got a pair of teal snakeskin ballet flats for MOTG and on-call. Much more practical and comfortable but still matchy matchy! What do you think? Rip off the tags, or am I insane?

WIW 10/30 & 11/10 Black & burgundy: One hit & one miss

Interestingly, both of these outfits had some similar elements, namely the black turtleneck, long chain necklace and burgundy satchel. But I felt much more fab in the work outfit compared to today's MOTG outfit, which felt kind of frumpy to me. What was it--the waterfall cardigan? The grey color? The top feels a little too short and the pants too low-rise and a tad loose, which makes me feel like I am at risk for plumber's crack when I bend over/squat. And the long cardigan plus long necklace over turtleneck made me feel a little Coldwater Creek-ish. Hm. Suggestions for improvement welcome!

1-3. Lafayette 148 burgundy leather jacket
INC black turtleneck
Halogen burgundy tweed skirt
Clarks black pumps
Betsey Johnson burgundy quilted hearts satchel
Ann Taylor burgundy and gold necklace

4. Black turtleneck, necklace and satchel, plus
Pea in the Pod grey waterfall cardi
AG red snakeskin skinny jeans
Rieker black booties

WIW 10/24, 25 & 11/7: Clown pants + circus stripes; carnival; Circus Circus

Ladies & gentlemen, children of all ages...the circus is about to begin! Thought you might like to see some outfits with my Brahmin black and white circus stripe satchel. Enjoy the show!

1-3. DH calls these H&M floral pants my "clown pants", so why not pair them with my circus stripe bag for an outfit that would truly make his head spin?
Spiegel black leather jacket
Pleione raspberry shirt
H&M floral pants
Forever 21 teal statement necklace
Brahmin Vineyard Vivian dome satchel

Kate Spade Shelley turquoise pumps

4-5. This crazy dress reminds me of the bright colors in a carnival or Cirque du Soleil costume, and the blazer is kind of like a hot pink version of the ringmaster's red blazer.
Muse pink floral shift (Zulily)
White House Black Market pointy black flats
Tulle raspberry blazer
Banana Republic Trina Turk bracelet
Brahmin satchel

6-7. I know this may be too matchy matchy for a lot of you, but my matchy matchy-ness knows no bounds, so pairing the circus stripe skirt with the circus stripe satchel is a given!
Target black zip top
Vince Camuto black and white stripe midi tube skirt
OTBT gold booties
F21 bronze bracelet
Brahmin satchel

WIW 11/2-6: Map bag and my autumn palette

Still super excited about the map bag that Rae so kindly gave me! Thanks Rae! It's perfect for my favorite warm spicy autumn palette. Fall is finally here!

1. 11/2. Halogen pussy bow abstract stripes blouse
Lafayette 148 cognac leather jacket
White House Black Market blue pleated skirt (I love how ladylike I feel in this swishy skirt)
Forever 21 bronze bracelet
Clarks brown pumps
Map satchel

2-4. 11/3. At first I tried this Missoni blouse with teal skinnies and yellow sweater, but the colors and proportions weren't right...the shirt felt too short to wear with skinnies. I liked it much better with the teal sweater and rust flared corduroys. I think the extreme flares of the bell bottoms combined with the crazy print on the shirt give it a fun '70's vibe, what do you think? Closeup of the bag's print.
Missoni for Target printed blouse
Only Mine teal cashmere V neck sweater
Anthro rust bell bottom cords
Timberland Stratham Heights cognac heeled boots
F21 bracelet
Map satchel

5. L148 cognac leather jacket
H&M olive safari shirtdress
Linea Pelle leather belt
F21 bracelet
Frye Melissa cognac flat lace-up boots
Map satchel

6. ASOS Vero Moda plum ditsy floral frock
F21 brown double buckle belt
Mia Nanette brown lace-up ankle boots
F21 bracelet
Map satchel

7. Ralph Lauren equestrian pussy bow sleeveless blouse (I was kind of stumped for a topper because a leather jacket felt like too much leather with the skirt, so I just threw on a black cardigan for warmth)
Gap black cardigan
L148 gingerbread leather A line midi skirt
Sam Edelman Okala pony print pumps
Map satchel
(Oops, forgot the F21 bracelet, better go throw that on!)

WIW 11/1: Quick change artist

#1 is what I planned to wear to work, but I picked up DS2 to nurse him before leaving and he smeared his strawberry covered hands all over my shirt. Whoops! Hazards of being a working mom. That's OK, a quick change of shirt and shoes and I'm off and running--and stopped by DD's school for her teacher conference on my way to work. Which version do you prefer?

1-2. Tommy Bahama turquoise button down blouse
Anthro Liquid Acres pencil skirt
Kate Spade turquoise Shelly pumps
Cole Haan turquoise striped satchel
J Crew blue jewel necklace
White House Black Market blue jewel bracelet

3-4. Swapped out shirt and shoes for
Anne Fontaine white blouse
WHBM ink blue jacket
WHBM black pointy flats

WIW Halloween 2013: A Space Odyssey

Thought I'd share our Halloween pics!

1-3. What I wore to work on Halloween. Orange and black, kitty cats and dead branches. Still theme-y without being in costume.

4 & 6. Halloween 2010. DH made his own rocket booster/space shuttle costume. DD was an alien and DS1 and I were astronauts.

5 & 7. Halloween 2013. This time DH made his own astronaut costume by spray painting a jumpsuit and garden gloves, sewing on NASA and A.B. Shepard patches, and finding a real vintage Russian fighter pilot helmet on eBay. DS2 was able to use DS1's baby astronaut suit, DS1 was Buzz Lightyear, and thankfully DD and I still fit into our costumes!

8-13. More fun pics.
14-17. This picture of 3.5 year old DS1 as Buzz Lightyear reminds me of my brother when he was Buzz at age 4. That was a poignant time because our dad had just passed away from cancer a couple weeks earlier. Life comes full circle...pics of me with my brother in 1996 and now me with my three children in 2013. I wish my dad was here to see all of his grandchildren!
