WIW 11/17 & 19: Cocoon coat, primary and shadow personas

Thank you all so much for your encouragement about the cocoon coat on my cape thread:
http://goldenpig.lookfab.com/p.....t-got-away
I'm glad you think it looks good on me. It is a new silhouette for me so it takes some getting used to. I will try to get back and respond to your wonderful comments, but have been rather busy the last few days. In the meantime, I did pull out the cocoon coat again, even though DH thinks it is "too big" on me. I don't think it is a duplication to have a purple cape and a purple cocoon coat (right?), since they don't seem to cover the same outfit silhouettes. Like I wouldn't be able to wear the cape with the black AllSaints dress, and the cocoon coat wouldn't work with the plaid fit and flare midi skirt. Hopefully there is not too much overlap, so I can justify keeping and wearing both!

With Rachy's recent thread about shadow personas, I realized that these two outfits demonstrate my idea of my shadow persona. The first outfit is my darker, edgier UWP shadow persona and the second outfit is my usual straight up polished ladylike luxe. Kind of like my good girl and my noir personas, LOL. I even have two different watches which is how I can tell which persona I am.

By the way, do you think this cropped sweater works on me, or are cropped sweaters not a good idea for apples?

WIW 11/12: Vanilla and chocolate swirl

I got this Kate Spade cream perforated satchel at the latest Kate Spade surprise sale--almost 60% off! I used a gift card that DH had given to me for my birthday and also bought the matching wallet. The funny thing is that the two other women doctors in my group both have very similar cream perforated bags--one has the Kate Spade cream tote, and the other has a Michael Kors tote that also is cream and perforated. And they both carry the bags all the time. So we will be triplets! I've never had that happen IRL, only on YLF! Fun!

The satchel matches my Vince cream cardigan exactly, plus I wanted to wear a cozy sweater to work. I decided to pull out my old Banana Republic wrap dress from the '90's (vintage! LOL) because it has cream colored ribbons to match. And I always have to pair this ribbon print dress with my BR gold chain link necklace and my Clark brown pumps with swirly straps. I love echoing the theme throughout my outfit.

Don't the colors and swirly ribbons make you think of a chocolate and vanilla ice cream sundae? With flowery "sprinkles" on top! Yum!

Thanks for looking!

WIW The Cape Crusade: the one that almost got away

So you know that nice Allsaints burgundy cocoon coat I got at SSIF? Unfortunately I haven't been wearing much lately, because when I wore it DH told me it's too big for me and doesn't look flattering on me. I think it's too avant garde for him and he doesn't get the cocoon silhouette. I hate to admit that his comments bug me, but it makes me question whether I look fat in it and kind of took the wind out of my sails. I had returned the burgundy Helene Berman cape that I bought at NAS in favor of the cocoon coat, but found myself wishing I had it back. Even though it's just as "big" on me, it was a more conventional piece and I wished I had it to go with the all the other pieces I bought at NAS. Then one of my patients showed up for an office visit wearing it, and I thought, OMG I want my cape back! I searched on Nordstrom and even called customer service, but it was all sold out and I was dismayed. Fortunately though, I didn't give up and kept digging, and found it for sale at Nordstrom Rack online! Apparently when they clearance items, they move all the stock to the Rack. I'm surprised they didn't suggest that when I was on the phone with Nordstrom CS, but I'll definitely keep that in mind in the future. I was so happy to find the cape again, plus it was almost half the price of when I bought it at NAS! I had bought a camel Helene Berman cape at NAS when I joined YLF 3 years ago, but ended up returning it because the camel color wasn't good with my skin coloring. But this burgundy is perfect for my deep autumn color palette and matches with my whole "navy and burgundy" fall wardrobe, including the Halogen floral sweater and a bunch of my plaid and lace items. I've been wearing it a bunch and even copying the catalog models. It's surprisingly versatile! Anyways, I finally have my superhero cape now and I'm not letting it go again! Do any of you have tales of "the one that almost got away"? Thanks for your comments!

4-5. Complete ripoff of the "mannequin"--with Equipment plaid sweater, Equipment blouse, and DVF navy lace pencil skirt.

9-12. Double dose of florals with Halogen floral sweater and new Kate Spade cream perforated floral satchel (bought at Kate Spade surprise sale with gift card from DH that I still had from my birthday).

WIW 10/31: Mrs. Incredible Curls

For Halloween we did a whole family costume and went as the Incredibles. Normally DH likes to make his own costume, but this year I convinced him to just go store-bought, because this year we have the perfect combination of kiddos to be the Incredible family--DH was Mr. Incredible, I was Elastigirl, DD was Violet, DS1 was Dash and DS2 was Baby Jack-Jack. The boys wore their masks for less than two minutes, but we got one decent picture. Super fun!

I also got my hair cut that afternoon, and my hairdresser wanted to try curling my hair so she got out the curling iron. It looked cute but it lasted for all of two hours before reverting to its usual stick-straight-ness. Fun while it lasted though!

We took the kids out trick or treating and they had a blast! Everyone loved the family costume.

K/R: Two red floral dresses (ETA: new pics at bottom)

Hi! Wanted to get your opinion on a couple of red dresses. I'm looking for something to wear to upcoming holiday parties (DH and I usually have holiday parties at work). Do you like either of these dresses?

The first one is a Maggy London sheath. It's size 8 (the 6 is backordered). I don't think I'd want to go any tighter than this anyways though. The second is a Taylor fit and flare. I have size 6 and 8 here. The 6 is very fitted and a little snug around the waist. The 8 has more breathing room at the waist, but I worry that the bodice looks a little too loose and wrinkly. I think I prefer the print placement of the size 6.
1-3. Maggy London sheath, size 8.
4-6. Taylor fit and flare, size 6.
7-9. Taylor fit and flare, size 8.

DH strongly prefers the second one--he thinks the lace detail on the sheath is too frou-frou. DD likes the first one because of the lace. I think the fit and flare is more "me" (plus it has pockets!), but the sheath is maybe more grown-up looking. I just realized that the fit and flare just went on sale, so I can get a price adjustment. I could keep both if you really like both, but they are kind of similar looking so if you have a preference let me know. The theme of my work holiday party is "Winter Wonderland"--would either of these dresses work? Any ideas for toppers--maybe a black or a white faux fur shrug? And do you think I could wear either of these to work later? Thanks so much!
