WIW 1/30: Emerald green and ink blue

I keep wearing this ink blue jacket! I have to remember to wear some of my other stuff instead of reaching for the same favorites over & over! Anyways, I wore this emerald green blouse because of Angie's post, and since she said she likes it with blue I thought I'd try it with my WHBM jacket. The yellow skirt was a bit of a bold choice and I'm not sure if the combo looks too bright/garish or ridiculous. But I did get a several compliments from coworkers today, so it must be OK (unless it's one of those cognitive dissonance "that's so weird it must be cool" type responses). Am I being too wacky with my colors? I am wondering if I need to tone things down for work. Any other skirt suggestions?

White House Black Market ink blue jacket
Anthro Dots Within emerald green tie neck blouse with navy dots
WHBM ink blue belt
Halogen yellow raisin pencil skirt
Nude Easy Spirit pumps
(grey Kate Spade croc tote, not pictured--I had a hard time deciding which bag to use with this crazy-colored outfit)

WIW 1/21-1/28: New Fossil satchels x2, ink blue jacket, navy + orange

Here are some of the outfits I wore the past week. Since Angie dubbed me Queen Fossil, I decided to embrace my title and added a couple more satchels to my Fossil collection! Quick question--are the pants in 6-7 the right length or do they need to be shortened? Comments and suggestions welcome!

1. New Fossil satchels in orange-red diamond and black/silver/taupe chevron patterns!

2-3. Lafayette 148 caramel leather jacket from Nordstrom Rack
Banana Republic black/silver/bronze wrap dress
H&M black tank (didn't want to be too revealing since I was at work)
Fossil black/silver/taupe Fossil satchel
Gap brown herringbone tights
Nine West black knee high boots
Calvin Klein V necklace

4-7. Nordstrom Halogen black plaid wool zip moto peacoat
Nordstrom Only Mine V neck cashmere sweater in burnt sienna
Gap Perfect Trousers in grey (are these PPL or do they need to be taken in?)
Fossil red diamond satchel
Fossil Sasha pumps in russet (same color as the bag!)
Macy's leopard and gold necklace from Secret Santa Lisa

8. White House Black Market ink blue jacket
WHBM geometric print shell
Ann Taylor black skirt (this is from my ancient interview suit from residency interviews! I pulled it out for kicks, inspired by Lyn's recent interviews)
Clarks red T strap pumps
Red Fossil tote
WHBM silver and black pendant

And some MOTG outfits from last weekend:
9. Navy Forever 21 sweater
Bright orange AG skinny cords from Anthro
Apricot Converse All Stars
(DS matches me with the orange and navy! :) And notice his little Vans socks? And bookworm DD is on the floor reading)

10. Macy's red INC waterfall cardigan (is that the right term for it?)
Black H&M V neck Tshirt
Gap Always Skinny jeans
Red Converse All Stars

Confession: Frivolous Resortwear Purchase

I have a confession to make. I am supposed to be "done" shopping for my wardrobe, but I succumbed to a totally frivolous online purchase of a "resort wear" outfit. The Kate Spade hat and bag and the Tommy Bahama maxi dress were on sale at 6pm and Ugg wedge sandals were on sale at Dillard's. Why am I buying summer clothes in the middle of winter? I have no idea but these pictures make me smile whenever I see them. I can't wait to get these, especially the orange slice straw bag! I can wear the outfit the next time we go to Hawaii. Even though I don't even have a trip planned at the moment, we usually go 2-3 times a year (it's the only tropical destination that is easy for us to vacation with little kids) so I'll definitely get plenty of use out of it. Plus I can wear the pieces (maybe not all together, but mixed into other outfits) when it gets warmer here. I don't have any of these type of pieces in my wardrobe yet and thought it would be useful to have some wedge sandals, a casual maxi dress, sun hat and straw bag. What do you think? Am I being totally silly?

WIW 1/20: Trinity goes to work (superhero rain boots)

My inner Urban Warrior Princess is having a field day! Continuing to explore the themes of prim suits/dresses combined with kick-@$$ boots and darker monochromatic navy/grey/black colors...

It's raining today for the first time in a long while (it's been a warm dry winter so far) so I jumped at the chance to pull out my shiny waterproof Aquatalia chianti-colored zippered rain boots. DH calls them my Wonder Woman boots. And combined with my fitted ink blue White House Black Market jacket, black pencil skirt with leather trim, black ruffled Kate Spade trench coat (perfect for rainy weather) and grey croc tote and matching navy umbrella, I do feel like a superhero in disguise. I could be Trinity from the Matrix, if she had a day job! That would be such a cool collection--Matrix office wear! Someone needs to produce this line because I would buy it all!

Oh, and I'm really excited. Today after work, we're going to pick up our new car! We're getting a Honda Odyssey, and it's the same color as my rain boots (only a YLF'er would buy a car to match their boots!). It's called Dark Cherry Pearl but it's a deep garnet color, almost purple. Our first time getting a minivan--we are crossing over to the dark side!

White House Black Market ink blue jacket and geometric print shell and black pendant necklace
Classiques Entier black pencil skirt with vertical leather trim
Forever 21 navy polka dot hose (thanks mom!)
Aquatalia Vavoom rain boots in Chianti (I know they're a little wide for my calves, but they were too cool to pass up! And they're rain boots so they can be a little wider, right?)
Kate Spade black ruffled trench coat and grey croc tote (my eyes have adjusted--the red Fossil bag seemed too bright for this outfit, LOL!)

WIW 1/18: Andrea copycat--Grey suit and lace-up boots

I was inspired by Andrea's picture yesterday in her grey suit and Doc lace-up wedge boots. So I thought I'd try something similar with my grey Classiques Entier suit with black lace trim, black Anne Fontaine button down blouse, black necklace, black tights, and black Melissa Frye boots. And grey croc Kate Spade tote. I felt a bit Victorian/steampunk today at work!

WIW 1/17: Modern classic (with a twist)

Thank you Angie for giving me a new appreciation of modern classic. I always had a slightly negative reaction to that term, but your post is helping me see it in a new light! But I still do truly think that I like classic with a twist, even though you mentioned in your post that everyone claims they want to add a "twist or edge" to classic. Here's my modern classic outfit for today. I think if I was "pure" classic, I would have worn it with a solid colored pencil skirt, like my red pencil skirt. But I picked a crazy colored and patterned Anthro one made out of a sweatshirt type fabric. So yes, I am unapologetically classic with a twist!

Anne Fontaine white button down shirt with double collar (even my button down has to have a twist)
Anthro mustard and orange tile print pencil skirt
H&M mustard skinny belt
Lafayette 148 caramel leather jacket (thrown over my shoulder in classic preppy mode!)
Fossil cognac buckle pumps
White House Black Market champagne triple strand faux pearl necklace

WIW 1/14 & 1/15: All Star love!

I have to thank Angie for introducing me to Converse All Stars. I bought two pairs in red and apricot (mustard yellow) and they have become my new favorite MOTG shoes! Now I have a better option than my 3 inch leopard heels, LOL!

1-5. Having fun with the kids at ballet class and the park, wearing my favorite color--red! (Oh, and DH complimented me on the coat and shoes combo!)
Anthro red corset trench
Black and white polka dot top, Bluefly (Casual Couture)
Gap Always Skinny jeans
Red Converse All Stars

6. Didn't try very hard today--DH was on call so I only went to swim class and stayed at home w/ the kids. But I was still stylin' with my yellow Converse! :)
Turquoise Forever 21 top
Rust Old Navy Rockstar Jeggings
Apricot Converse All Stars

WIW 1/12 and 1/13: Old Lady and Librarian

Yesterday I wore my Anthro purple tweed coat with faux fur collar (which I call my "old lady coat" in my mind because it just has that vibe for me). And today I wore my "librarian" outfit (BTW when I was little, I always said I wanted to be a librarian and an ice cream truck driver when I grew up). And of course, sensible shoes (bronze Born ballet flats) both days. What do you think, frumpy or fabulous? Or maybe a little of both--frumpalicious? And is the pattern mixing in the first outfit veering toward crazy cat lady territory? ;)

1-3. Anthro Tiny purple tweed coat with faux fur collar
Splendid cranberry cowl neck shirt
Halogen lace cami
Anthro floral skirt
Bronze Born flats
Ann Taylor necklace
Fossil floral bag

4-6. H&M grey textured cardigan
Anne Fontaine cream dotted blouse
H&M rose and plum plaid skirt
Anthro Moss Mills leaf belt
Bronze Born flats
Kate Spade grey croc bag

WIW 1/9 & 1/10: Yellow raisin & Bee blouse

Monday: featuring the Halogen yellow raisin skirt. Also a sleeveless stripey shell from Nordstrom--I can't remember who suggested I pair it with the yellow raisin skirt but it looks great together! Cognac leather jacket on top. Fossil bag AND tan Fossil pumps to match the jacket. I had to snap these Fossil pumps up, because I love the buckle on the front, the sturdy heel, comfy padded insole, and it was only $60. Plus the best part--the lining matches my Fossil floral bag exactly! How COOL is that? I had to get them in all three colors (black and russet reddish brown)! Do you like it untucked or tucked with the Forever 21 elastic belt? (I started out belted like #2 but ditched the belt midday because it kept riding up).

Tuesday: I felt a bit frumpish in this outfit today. Not sure why--maybe it's the waist surrender plus cardigan? Or maybe because it's the office equivalent of loungewear (swap a T shirt for the blouse and I could be bumming around the house)? Emerson Made cream pussybow blouse with bees and crowns pattern, red Old Navy rockstar jeggings, and ballet flats. I wore the bronze Born flats but not sure if the black is better or too matchy? Red Fossil tote and red and cream cuff bracelet from White House Black Market.

WIW 1/7 & 1/8: Purple Poncho and Peacock Print, and Frye boots x2

My two outfits from this weekend. Saturday I went with my Missoni Target colorful stripey blouse, Old Navy Rockstar Jeggings in Rust (did you get yours yet, Rae?), purple Golden Gate Cardigan sweater poncho from Anthro, and Frye Melissa lace-up boots in brown. After I dressed DD (she is wearing Hanna Andersson) I realized that she and I were wearing very similar stripey tops! Bonus pics of DS smiling on the swing (in Tea collection) and a family shot at the park. Today was kind of the opposite of yesterday--from super colorful to no color, and voluminous topper over sleek shirt to sleek topper over voluminous shirt. I wore my peacock print gray and black Ella Moss top, Tahari black leather jacket, Blue Essence black skinny jeans, and my black Frye Melissa boots. The Frye boots were the common element. I am keeping both colors despite how expensive they are, so I have to start working on getting their CPW down (already wore each pair twice in the last week, not bad!).
