K/R: NAS Lafayette 148 oxblood leather jacket, tweed skirt

My big box of NAS goodies arrived. Here are some of the things I am considering keeping. Let me know what you think of them--keep or return or try a different size.
1-4. Lafayette 148 leather jacket in vino, size 4. Some dressing room pics in 5-6 with same size jacket, but not the one I have at home. I'm wondering if the color is different between the two jackets, or whether it's just the different lighting. The size 4 is fitted and snug. I have a size 4 L148 jacket in cognac from a couple years ago that I wear a lot. I would use this as a leather blazer with the skirt and shell.
7. L148 black shell. Size 6. The 4 also fit but was tighter.
8. L148 tweed skirt. Size 6. I'm thinking I may need to try a 4, because there is some puckering at the hips. I already have a L148 tweed skirt but the color is wrong. I do already have a burgundy Halogen tweed skirt that might match (#9), which do you like better with the jacket?
10-11. L148 silk blouse in vino. Haven't had a chance to steam this. Nice or too pajama like?
12-14. Halogen black leather and ponte skirt. I would wear this with the burgundy leather jacket as shown.

Thanks for looking and commenting!

I really, really like the Lafayette outfit in the shots from the store. What size skirt were you wearing there? There doesn't seem to be any puckering on it. You could certainly wear the Halogen tweed instead of you can't get the L148 skirt to fit properly. . I like the black leather skirt. I think it could be a real workhorse in your closet. Ditto the black shell. The vino silk shirt is a gorgeous colour for you. It does seem a bit big, but steamed out and tucked in it could look fab. Worth a try I think.

Missvee, actually the skirt in the store is a size 10. Wayyy too big but it was all they had in stock. I am wavering in between 4 and 6 in their line but am not sure if I should order the other sizes to compare.

  • missvee replied 10 years ago

Well it is a fab outfit so I'd say order both sizes and decide for sure later.

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

Yes, I'll get a 4 and I might even order another size 6 skirt in case there was something wonky about the cut on this one.

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

I love the jacket on you a lot! Beautiful, so your style, and the richness of the color and fabrication is spot on for you! I think this is a keeper for sure. I do like it better unzipped than zipped, but that's just me.

I am too much a novice to comment on the skirt. It looks too big to me, so to really know, my eyes sort of need to see you in one that fits. I am sorry, I just can't visualize. :(

I am not loving the rest, sorry.

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

The jacket is a winner (and yes, I think it's the lighting that makes the colour appear different).

    The skirt looks big.

Black shell is always useful, but I'd suggest styling it first just to make sure you really need it.

And the blouse appears a bit off to me, it's not rich colour like the jacket, it's bit washed out.

    I hope this makes sense.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

The jacket is gorgeous! I agree something is off about the skirt, the puckering could just be from being sewn incorrectly or it could be the size.  I would order it in a 4 and another 6 to compare. The shell looks good, but I'm not loving the silk blouse on you. The blouse might look better tucked or belted. The burgundy skirt looks good with the jacket, I like both skirts with the jacket equally.

I tried on that Lafayette skirt in the store yesterday and the fit was very wonky. I tried my normal size (4 in that brand) and it puckered all down the sides (the black fabric part) and just didn't lay right. It's not lined so I think that's part of the problem, but I just think it's a clunker and not well made. I was very disappointed. :(

I love everything else here. That leather jacket is fabulous on you.

  • Susie replied 10 years ago

I love the leather jacket on you; the color is rich and flattering. I prefer it unzipped. I also really like the leather skirt. The shell is fine if it fills a need for you. I would pass on the blouse.

  • Sona replied 10 years ago

sorry for being a dissenting voice: I like the black shell on you. the oxblood jacket only if worn open. I come from the viewpoint of figure flattery above all else so take my advice in that vein only. I also think you have  a great wardrobe already and think playing around with a lot of your existing wardrobe would be fun for fall/winter and adding just  a few key pieces that are all 11/10.

    Jacket - love it!
Skirt - meh. My first impression is that I like the fit and color of the one you have much better. Nancy makes a good point about the fabrics possibly just not playing nice with each other.
Shell - good basic, I like the fit. Keep if you have a need.
Blouse - Fit looks good to me. I think silk blouses should fit on the loose side anyway. Pretty color.
Black skirt - its nice but not wowing me. Honestly, it just looks like a black pencil to me. Maybe it's the photos but I cant even really tell its leather.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

I vote: Keep the jacket! And the shell and black pencil if you don't already have similar items. Those seem like good basics. Return the silk blouse... it has that pajama vibe since it is a loose cut. The other pencil skirt seems kind of stodgy for some reason... the length plus the tweed?

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

KILLER jacket, when left open. Gorgeous colour on you, Natalie. I vote keep that!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Jacket looks like a winner, Natalie. Gorgeous colour. I like the black shell if you have a need. Forget the skirt -- it's a really cool idea, but from Nancy's review, it sounds as if it is poorly made. Too bad, because in theory, it is great! I can't tell about the leather skirt...is is really wearable to in your life? I would hesitate with a baby, myself. Something about the silk blouse isn't singing to me. But styled it might be good.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

I vote keep the black shell (looks like a good base layer) and that gorgeous red jacket!  I'd pass on the rest, they just don't sing like my pick pieces do.  I just ordered my NAS items yesterday and I am already impatient, I want to try everything on!

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

Vino jacket is absolutely perfect for you!  A real stand-out piece.
Black shell - great, if you have a need for it.
    L148 skirt - meh - doesn't fit correctly
L148 silk blouse - I love the fit on you and the color!  I think the color is perfect for you (just like the jacket) - can you see yourself wearing something like this, both alone or under jackets?  If so, I would keep.
Halogen skirt - perfect!  So flattering on you - makes me wish that I had a reason/place to wear pencil skirts!
    Great haul Natalie!

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

I love that leather jacket, especially worn open. Too bad about the skirt, but it's just not right. I think the jacket looks great with the skirt you already have, and it will be nice with black or jeans, too.

I really like the Halogen leather skirt, although it seems like a lot of leather, at least for work, to wear it with the leather jacket. But I'm sure it will go with tons of things in your wardrobe. I've ordered that one, too. How did the size run?

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

Thanks everyone! I'm thinking I will order another 4 and 6 in the skirt, just to try. I like to exhaust all options! Keeping the leather jacket, I never zip them closed so I don't know why I posted it that way in the K/R, I guess just for completeness' sake. Still debating the rest. Parsley, the Halogen skirt I have a 6 on which is my usual size for Halogen skirts. I'd say it runs slightly snugger than the Halogen seamed pencil skirts, but not enough to change the size.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Love the jacket, and I'm glad you're keeping it!  I like it best with your current Halogen skirt.  the shirts?  The fabrics and cuts aren't wowing me, although sometimes photography doesn't show everything.

  • replied 10 years ago

Dittoing on the vino leather jacket abd the black shell )hey, we need basics too). The rest is a return for me.

  • Echo replied 10 years ago

LOVE the jacket. The skirt I like, but it is too big. I also love the leather skirt in the last pics. The tops aren't really wowing me. Keep the shell if there's a need, but the blouse isn't as great on you as a blouse ought to be.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

The jacket is perfect - keep! I actually prefer your old burgundy tweed skirt to the new one - and you like matchy-matchy, right? :-)
Black shell is a nice basic if you need it but I am not wowed by the shirt - something seems off to me. I cannot see the leather skirt well enough sorry but I like the idea but not to be worn with leather jacket.

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

Had the same thought as missvee, I like the jacket in the store pics. Very very flattering. I assume the difference is pose and external conditions.

Love the black shell as well. Feel the skirt is a little big. Not loving the burgundy blouse; I feel it lacks... drape.
