What is your signature color?

Previously my signature color has always been red. It's always been my favorite color. I have a red shoes, red shirt, red skirts, red jeans, red belt, red trench coat, red dress, and an old red tote bag that I carry all the time. Now I think my signature color is becoming rust. I still like red, but I seem to be collecting a lot of new pieces in rust as well. I had a rust colored mock neck shirt that I've had for almost 20 years now and still wear it even though it's starting to fray...I'm not giving that up until I find the perfect replacement! But now I also have heels, hose, jacket, coat, skirt, sweater poncho (although that's more of a pumpkin color, but still a warm orange). I've found that it really complements my coloring so that's why I keep buying things in rust. But red will still always be my color as well!

So, what is your signature color? Is it the color that looks best on you, or your favorite color, or both? Bonus points for posting pic(s) of you in your signature color!

wow, that dress in 7 is amazing on you.

I've gone through early periods of black-and-white pattern and of hot pink.
Now I seem to buy a lot of metallic pewter. My hair isn't grey, though. I also
like anything - usually something in the blue grey/indigo range - that deepens
    the blue of my eyes.

When I think of signature color, I think about what other people recognize or
expect. That could be leopard print.

I probably get the strongest compliments on red and on black.

Yellow!!!! Every shade I can find. Nothing makes me happier than a yellow top in warm tones: sunshine yellow, mustard, gold, butter, love it.

Teal is also fab with my coloring. In the right shades, my skin glows.

I'm thinking black at the moment, but I wear a variety of winter colors so I'm not positive on that. I look really good in red but I don't have as many red pieces as I probably should.

I have to qualify the answer to this question.
The color I wear most and feel best in = grey and charcoal. I just feel calmer and more confident (boring, I know). True red in second place.
The colors I am most attracted to (color wheels, design, and clothes too) = deep teal and aubergine (eggplant). It's been that way for a very long time, doubt it will change any time soon.

p.s. You look great in the dress (#7), the plaza coat (#14. I have last year's version in a purplish navy color), and I love the shoes in #6 and #11.

Fun topic! I think that rust is an offshoot of your other signature color, red. Still the same, warm family, but a different spin on it. You look great in both!

I don't have a favorite color, and I probably have either the most red or orange at this point, but I think my signature color is citron. Not that many people wear it, so it feels a little more Rae-exclusive around here. I'm always on the hunt for more citron, but it can be hard to find, so citron approximations do, too (chartreuse, lime, etc.)

Bonus pics of red items, since that's the runner-up signature color.

  • Amy replied 12 years ago

Can my signature color be rainbow? LOL. I LOVE color and would be hard-pressed to pick just one. Like you, I am crazy about red and have worn a lot of it over the years. I've also been consistently drawn to deep purple, magenta, teal and lime green.

Of all those, I most often wear shades of magenta/purple/pink.

Warning: some of the pictures below are of outfits I wore before thinking about figure flattery, lol.

  • nicoleb replied 12 years ago

Ahhh these are fun! I love seeing everyones pictures!

No surprise..... seems to be mine is blue. I feel like it's the best of the primary colors (no offense red lovers lol). :D

BUT i really love anything jewel toned!

  • lynn replied 12 years ago

Black or black and white would be my number 1 followed closely by turquoise. Both look good with my dark hair and fair skin.

  • JennyAnne replied 12 years ago

Hmm, not counting black and gray, it must be either red or bright blues (turquoise and royal). i don't wear one color predominantly all the time, but I do thing they're most flattering. I've also been drawn to white a lot lately.

  • Nakidra replied 12 years ago

Purple!!!! I love, love purple! Anything I can get my hands on in purple I'm all over!

  • Janet replied 12 years ago

It's fun to see the pics in this thread! Clearly you all are very good at recognizing which colors suit you.

No surprise here, my two signature colors are cobalt blue and teal. :-)

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

Looking through my year of WIW's it seems that no color really predominates. I do wear a surprisingly large amount of black and gray. But if I had to pick the color that makes me happiest, I think I'd go with green in all its variations.

  • Diana replied 12 years ago

Teal! It's my favorite color, looks good on me, and just makes me happy. If I'm wearing a blah outfit, tossing on a teal scarf is a sure way to give it a boost. While I like turquoise as well, I do not classify it as teal. It must be a dark, saturated blue-green to qualify!

At the moment, I do not have any teal shoes and that makes me sad. It's not always the easiest color to find especially when it is not in style. (by contrast, I have a lot of red items because red seems to always in style!)

ETA: Looking at these photos, apparently all my teal items are tops and scarves. I have a teal handbag as well. Hmmm. Must find a teal skirt. Or jeans. And the aforementioned shoes.

  • Ana replied 12 years ago

Coral and tomato/orangey red. Sorry, no pictures unfortunately. I'm enjoying seeing everyone's color visuals in this thread, though. : )

  • replied 12 years ago

Turquoise for me (my summer color)! For winter I switch to burgundy or rasberry/mulberry shades for my color. This concept of a signature color is new for me. Before I had a closet full of riotous prints and any color that I thought I could get away with. I had a really hard time putting together outfits. Now the rest of my things are neutrals or pseudo-neutrals.

I'm not sure that having a signature color is the best way to design a wardrobe, but I don't like or look good in many of the colors that are being mass-produced right now, so I'm wearing a lot of grey since it's available and it works with my coloring.

Natalie, you should stock up on rust right now! It's certainly out there in the stores and you totally rock it! I love how it works so well with your other colors (witness the colors in your purse). :)

  • Kate replied 12 years ago

Blues, particularly turquoise, royal & navy. I also love, and wear a lot of, brown and black & white.

  • HelenInCanada replied 12 years ago

I love this topic! Your favourite colour (yes, I am using the Canadian spelling!) says a lot about you! Symbolism galore. I know off the top of my head that red usually represents power and passion, while blue is soothing and intuitive, etc... Check out this site for a quick look at what each colour represents in terms of personality:

My favourite colour tends to be in the purple family, although lately I'm really drawn to blues (royal, ocean) and have been wearing it alot. I love red too - argh, I can't decide! :P

  • catgirl replied 12 years ago

I'm going to have to say black. And I'm not all that happy about it.

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

I totally love you in red and rust! The dress in 7 is amazing! You do a great job of putting together the color in fresh ways. I particularly like the black and white polkadot with the red bag and the shot of the red coat and the red shoes are killer!

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

I forgot to add that I think my signature look since going silver is......gray and silver! Oh, black and navy too.

  • ironkurtin replied 12 years ago

Black and white and dark denim! I love me these colors and I don't ever plan to stop!

  • Lisa replied 12 years ago

Blue! I've always worn a lot of blue.

  • citygirldc replied 12 years ago

Black and blue (family). I didn't realize how much of one color I seem to go to lately.

  • Ornella replied 12 years ago

    Red :)

    And B&W.

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 12 years ago

GP, the reds and rusts look beautiful on you.

Rae, I have read that the warm yellows and greens usually don't work for asian people or winters but they really work for you. It is interesting and makes me wonder.

Amy, I think I am your color twin. I loved all of the pieces you posted and didn't notice the shapes may have been off because the colors were so divine.

MaryK, you too wear both the warm and cool shades well. I love all of your shades of green and color mixing.

Diana, have you tried Amy's purple and magentas? Teal is a very close second for me next to the fuchsia and magenta. I remember wearing a navy leather skirt and deep teal cropped sweater to an even decades ago and it was one of my all-time favourite outfits. (Canadian spelling again).

I wear a lot of black, white, and grey but the jewel tones are my true loves.

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

It's fab news that you all LOVE your signature colours, and look sensational in them. It doesn't always work out that way. Some people love colours that they just can't wear, or don't wear colours that look great because they don't like them. I was with my friend today who looks heavenly in magenta - it's as if the colour was invented for her. Yet she loathes the colour and therefore never wears it.

My signature colours: black/white/cream combinations, tomato red, citron, lime, turquoise, bright pink - anything sour and crisp, really.

I am currently in love with ink blue. I want to make that my next "big* colour.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 12 years ago

Gosh - is it awful that I don't know???

  • replied 12 years ago

I am happiest in turquoise/aqua and orange/coral. Sometimes worn in the same outfit!

  • Deborah replied 12 years ago

I think black/white (worn together) are definitely my signature colors but red and ink blue are becoming staples in my wardrobe too.

  • banananutmuffin replied 12 years ago

Sadly, my signature color is black. It's the family joke, actually.

In fact, at a funeral yesterday, one of the family members commented to me: "I bet you didn't have a problem finding something to wear," and said to my husband, "You'll have a hard time picking BNM out of this crowd now."

I KNOW Angie says to avoid too much black, especially near the face, especially at my age (35+). But it's safe, slimming, and goes with anything.

Such a cop out thing for me to say, right?
