WIW 11/20: Parisian chic with a twist of Orangina (ETA more pics!)

The last time I tried Parisian chic was in July, Parisian moto chic style:

That was pretty early on in 1st trimester. Well I thought I'd see if I could try it again now with my bigger belly. Also, Janet inspired me to bring out the jacket with matching floral brooch from her post:

I love playing with different fashion personas. Yesterday it was preppy schoolgirl (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ol-brights), today it's casual Parisienne. Or at least, my version--I don't know if French women would ever actually wear bright orange maxi skirts, but if they did, maybe they would wear it like this! I called this look Orangina after my favorite soda (I actually have the poster in #9 hanging up in my laundry room!).

I also love that I'm sooo comfy in this...I'm just wearing a T shirt and stretch waist maxi skirt and ballet flats, but dressed up with a blazer and pearls, I'm ready for work!

White House Black Market ink blue jacket (it doesn't close anymore over my belly but it's one of my favorites so I'm still wearing it!) with matching floral pin
H&M navy and white striped T (non-maternity but it's long)
Nordstrom Max & Mia orange maxi skirt
Blue pearl necklace (OC swap via MaryK)
Jason Wu for Target navy trim straw purse
Born bronze ballet flats

Thanks for your comments and critiques!

ETA: Thanks so much for all your suggestions--more pics added with additional options! I really loved Una's suggestion of adding the orange slice bag for a more literal Orangina! Plus I think it ties together with the orange skirt so it's not so jarring. Also, three different pant options: orange skinnies (although they don't really zip up anymore so this would be more for post-partum), white jeans (these maternity ones don't fit well either so I'd probably wait and wear my white Paige HIdden Hills postpartum), or my burgundy maternity skinnies. Do any of these look any better? I also could do a black skirt, blue skirt, black skinnies, or blue jeans. Thanks for your help!

So creative, so parisienne, so glorious! Love this on you GP!

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

Blue and orange is such a great color combo, and your jacket/flower pin is fun!

  • Parsley replied 11 years ago

Natalie, you always look good, but to me the top half doesn't look like it goes with the bottom half in this outfit.
The skirt reads more boho to me than the sort of retro tailored top half, and there's nothing that ties the colors together on the top and the bottom.
I like each half individually, just not together.

I love to wear blue and orange. But I'm compelled to mention... I remember taking all blue and orange to Jamaica one year and my uncle telling me those were the communist party colors... and politics can involve guns in Jamaica.

GP: my thoughts are exactly as Parsley articulated. I think this one needs to go back to the drawing board.

I agree with Parsley on this one. I was expecting to see your orange slice bag in here somewhere!

I'm not a maxi fan, so can't comment meaningfully on the outfit....but wanted to point out that WIW DO get critical feedback in a meaningful and gentle way on this forum (as throughly discussed on Zap's thread....isn't feedback great?

I love the idea, and now I want to dig out my orange skirt and try it with breton stripes and a navy topper!

I vote fab! I love orange and blue. It's unexpected in style, sure, but it's working for me.
I must confess, your WIWs actually make me green-eyed. That you can be so very fab *while pregnant* is blowing my mind. It's like levelling up or something, lol.

Thanks merwoman, Janet, amiable and Jules for your kind compliments! I love experimenting with new looks!

And thanks too to Parsley, rachylou, Sona, Una, and Isis. I really appreciate your constructive feedback! Points well taken. I know maxi skirts aren't the most popular look around here. Parsley, I agree the skirt is kind of boho. This outfit started out as me thinking "How can I use this maxi skirt that I haven't been wearing?" And then I added on the jacket and flower after I saw Janet's post. So yes, maybe the styles are a little incongruous. Isis, I agree, that's one of the valuable benefits of posting WIW's, all the great tweaks and gentle suggestions for improvement from others. Rachy...I had no idea about blue and orange being communist colors...interesting. Una, you are brilliant with your suggestion of actually using the orange slice bag...perfect! And I went ahead and tried some other options for the bottoms per your suggestions.

Thanks so much for all your suggestions--more pics added with additional options! I really loved Una's suggestion of adding the orange slice bag for a more literal Orangina!
