WIW 1/22: Peacock tunic--happiness factor 10

One of my favorites from last week so it gets its own WIW. Happiness factor 10! (http://youlookfab.com/2013/01/.....ss-factor/) I love peacock print, I think it's my favorite animal print (even more than leopard). I bought this (non-maternity) tunic right after I found out I was pregnant. I'm amazed at how well this tunic has worked throughout all three trimesters, and I'm planning to continue wearing it post-baby as well.

And I got to pull out a new necklace that I got myself for Christmas. I like how it kind of echoes the eye of the peacock feathers as well as the green color. I was comfy all day in the tunic, maternity pants and ballet flats. I wore this to work but it could work for MOTG as well.

1-3. 1/22
Alberto Makali peacock tunic
Tahari black leather jacket
H&M black maternity skinnies
Banana Republic emerald necklace
Michael Kors studded satchel
Born bronze ballet flats

Just for fun--here is the tunic throughout all three trimesters:
4. (the K/R)--week 5ish, so similar to what it will look like post-baby
5. first trimester--week 7
6. beginning of second trimester--week 14
7. second trimester--week 18
8. third trimester--week 34

Thanks so much everyone for the boosts!

Shannon, I agree, it's one of my best purchases to date! Very versatile. Shevia, I agree it does look even better with a baby bump. Beth Ann, agree that it will be one of my post-partum staples to camouflage the post-baby bulge. Scarlet, I was waiting for YOU to write about your maternity dressing method...you had killer maternity style! How are things going with the new baby?

This is a beautiful item, Natalie, and you just glow in it. I saw on supersale at my Nordstrom and was so tempted but am not a collar gal. Love how you work your wardrbobe.

Auburn, I have to say I wasn't that impressed with H&M maternity. I've only gone there a couple times, but the maternity section in our store was tiny (just a couple racks) and filled with empire waist tops or T shirts that ballooned out over the belly which I didn't like (I've been dressing more body-con this time around). I only bought the one pair of black skinny maternity pants but it smells kind of funny--has this slight petroleum chemical smell. Kind of like when I DIY waxed a pair of jeans--I couldn't stand the smell so I washed the wax off, but this smell persists even after washing. I'm almost done with my pregnancy so I haven't bothered to replace it and keep wearing it despite the faint smell. I actually had much better luck in the H&M regular section--found a couple of long cowl neck sweaters that I have been wearing a ton, and some of their regular T shirts are long enough that I can still wear them. I'm really limiting my maternity pieces and trying to find stuff in the regular section that will still work during and after pregnancy.

Angie, thanks for the K rating! I definitely feel killer in this top!

Una, aw too bad you didn't get it! I would have loved to be a peacock twin with you!

So Stylish....I wore one dress nearly the whole last two months of my first pregnancy...Oh i loved getting into regular clothes again!

  • Scarlet replied 11 years ago

Hi Natalie, we are doing great. I am pretty much dying from too much cuteness. Why did I wait so long to become a mom? Oh well, I guess it was the right time for me. I still would like to write up my strategy and evaluate it as well for future reference. I am still figuring out the new phase of nursing and baby-friendly dressing. It does get easier though the bigger he gets and the more confident I get with him. I guess when I go back to work I will also be back to my old tricks.
