WIW 3/10: Stripes and floral pants (tweaking help needed)

I decided to post this outfit a little early so I can get feedback on how to style it tomorrow. I've decided to keep the H&M floral pants--at $15, I can afford to participate in a new trend and not worry about buying expensive floral jeans that become passe in a year or two.

I wore a WHBM black and white striped top following Una's suggestion. Should I use the turquoise belt or not? Unbelted version in #6. It's too tight to belt at the hip so I have to belt at the waist. And which jacket do you prefer--black Tahari leather jacket (6), indigo Gap denim jacket (8), cropped faded AE denim jacket (9) or white cropped AE denim jacket (10)? (Also threw in a pic of the white jacket over cantaloupe T). I also have the grey croc Kate Spade tote and the WHBM hammered stretch bracelet. I chose bronze flats even though it doesn't match, because it just seems to *go* with the outfit. The whole outfit has kind of an 80's flavor.

This combo feels a little outside my usual comfort zone, hence the "fashion blogger" poses--I feel like it makes the crazy ALGO outfit look more intentional! LOL!

Yay I'm glad you're keeping these! :D I'm inspired to go check them out myself, since I have a 15% off code.

I like this outfit unbelted and with either the leather jacket or the white denim jacket over the striped shirt. I think wearing a graphic t with these pants is going a little into loungewear/nightwear territory but I love the contrast of the stripes.

Also, great choice of shoes! I'm surprised you chose to wear flats with ankle length pants, but they look great :) if you don't mind my asking, how tall are you? The only thing stopping me from getting these pants is my height - 5'4''.

Wow, these are perfect on you! I am glad you are participating in this trend, it suits you and your feminine style. I love all of the options except the last two with the white jacket. Somehow the black based pants need a darker topper to balance out the look, to my eye. I especially like the floral mixed with the stripe. So trendy!

    I like 6, 8, and 9.

    What a fun look!

I vote unbelted with black jacket to smarten up, aka #6!

I like the Tahari jacket and the cropped faded jacket. I love the flats - you can totally pull this off (I can't so am living vicariously through you). I am undecided about the belt - in 8 you don't need it, but with the Tahari jacket and jacketless, the colour adds to the look. It does look good but I'm wondering if you have enough belt length to do the belt knot trick, so you add a bit of vertical action at your midsection for the eye to look at against those horizontal stripes.

I love your fashiony poses - not just eighties, I get a Frenchie vibe too - like you should cross one ankle over the other, lean against the wall and drag on a cigarette :) would suit this fab look perfectly!

    ETA I don't smoke! LOL!

    How cute!
My favorite is no belt, faded jean jacket as in #8. As a side topic, I must be like a 24 in these pants. There is no way I'm the same size as tiny you!

ETA: Runner up is #6 but I would have love it more if the jacket was more cropped.

I like #6 best. No belt, black jacket. 1st runner up is light denim #8

These pants are so fun! I prefer outfits without a belt. As Denise I also think that darker topper works better - they look great with a black jacket in #6. However I think denim jackets work too because your dark hair bookends the pants so thumbs up for #8-10 from me!

Of the looks you've posted, I like #8 best. I prefer it unbelted but I do like the extra pop of color from the belt - do you have a pendant or something in turquoise?
You might want to try a narrower stripe too - I think the floral and the stripe right now are kind of both similarly large-scale right now and it might work better to make the stripe smaller.

#8 with the cropped, faded denim jacket is my hands down favorite.

Any combo without the belt. They are all winners. Fun look!!

  • Jem replied 12 years ago

My choice is #8, for sure. So cute!

    GP,
Looks very cute the various ways you have styled it. The striped top with floral pants puts you at the head of the fashion trend! I think my favorite is the faded cropped top (for a more casual look) but I also like the the black leather jacket! I think CocoLion is right about the white jacket not working as well with the pants.

I'm glad you chose the striped top. When you had paired these bold pants with the coral and white print tees, it all looked a bit too pj or frumpy to me. The stripes and leather are the ticket.

However, I much prefer the rosy floral jeans you tried when you were looking at white jeans. Of course, I lean toward lower contrast, and more traditional cuts, perhaps. (and I think I had a dress with the dark background/huge flowers print back in the 80's.)

I really like the combo of the stripes with the florals! So fresh and on trend to my eye.

Would like to see the crops cropped a little shorter. I can't help it, Natalie. I am very consistent about my viewpoint on this length. It is very hard to pull off with style, especially with flats. (To my eye, anyway :))

#8 was the most striking I saw when first looking at these. No belt. I have a feeling these pants would look great dressed up with a sleevess fitted silky top (probably in black or other deep color) and low heels. The pattern seems glamorous for some reason.

I love this!!! So much fun! I love the color the belt provides, even though it's not neccessary. The black jacket and denim get my votes. Love the poses!

My favorites are #9 and #10! So cute! Definitely no belt with the striped top.

Can you roll the sleeves on the white denim jacket a bit? I think mirroring the crop of the pant and exposing your dainty wrists would balance the outfits that much more.
