WIW 3/27: Wool shorts, tights, boots and scarf (copying Aida)

Aida in her fab shorts/tights/boots/scarf outfit inspired me to copy her formula:

I'm going to the office today but not seeing patients so I felt OK trying the shorts and tights look. I bought these wool shorts last fall but haven't worn them much. I'm not sure if they are too casual for work and too dressy for MOTG--trying to think of where I can wear this type of outfit! What do you think of it?

Only Mine teal V neck cashmere sweater from Nordstrom
H&M orange/brown/cream/grey scarf
Sanctuary tobacco wool shorts
H&M grey ribbed tights
Frye Melissa cognac lace up boots
Kate Spade grey croc tote
Forever 21 bronze and orange bracelet

What a great outfit! For me and my work this would be too casual to wear to the office. But I do think it's super cute and fun. I bet brown tights would look great with it too.

    Fab! Love that color combination!

To answer your "where to wear it" question, I wouldn't wear that outfit to work, even for an office day. I think for me it would be a "weekend brunch with the girls" or "Saturday morning at the salon" outfit.

Or definitely a "Pink Floyd tribute band concert" outfit -- I saw three ladies rocking very similar looks at the concert on Sunday night! :)

I don't think it's too dressy for MOTG. It might not show you as *one of us* when it comes to work. Are you at the university hospital?

You carry this look off really well Natalie and I really like the colours you used in the outfit. As for where to wear it, definitely a day of shopping or lunching with girlfriends, catching a movie with hubby, any sort of daytime event. I'm afraid I do see it as a bit casual for work, unless there is a defined casual day (like our Denim Days at work on Fridays). Gorgeous look!

Natalie, I always love those mid-tone blues on you! I'd like to suggest shortening the scarf a little, so the shorts are highlighted a little more here. Alternatively a more cropped topper.

That said, it's a lovely combination you have there. You do the brown/tan and blue combination SO WELL it's like watching a masterclass in progress! I don't know your environmental norm, but is this really not appropriate for wearing to the park or as MOTG formula elsewhere, if you pared down the jewellery? Looks so ready for fun and friendly times!

This is a really beautiful casual look!

I could see this going out for casual dinner or touring day in the city/Sunday drive.
You and Aida are getting me used to the idea of shorts with tights!

I think this is fun for MOTG or out with the girls. The teal with the cognac is so pretty! Great copy : )

So cute Natalie! (I'm tickled you copied me :D ) I think this works for MOTG, it doesn't look overly dressy to me but probably a little too casual for your work. I wear mine to work, but my work is uber casual and in the arts. A leather jacket with this would be great for MOTG (super sassy), but maybe a blazer and sleeker boots would dress it up enough for work? Gorgeous scarf and cuff!

  • annagybe replied 12 years ago

I think the brown of the jacket is too close to the brown of the shorts. I like the contrast of the blue top though.

Lovely outfit Natalie! I love both yours and Aida's versions. I also think that it is a bit too casual for work, but great for activities such as brunch, shopping, girls night out etc.

Cute outfit! I love the shorts and tights look, but haven't found the right shorts to be able to copy it. I think the scarf looks great with the colors of the shirt and shorts.

  • Jonesy replied 12 years ago

It's a cute look. For me, for what it's worth, I'm not sure I would feel comfortable in shorts that short at the office, even with tights.

Very nice! I'm not sure if it is office appropriate, if you were to see patients and especially in our age group, but it makes for a fun weekend look!
