WIW 5/3-5: Trio of neutrals

I find that I'm doing more black and white and neutral outfits and fewer riot of bright color outfits. Maybe it's because I'm into graphic patterns and matchy matchy, so there's still plenty going on to keep me from getting bored, even with the lack of color.

Back at work and already on call again. I'm at the hospital all week, including this weekend, so these are all work outfits. Though I did go to the park in #7. Baby is having issues with reflux due to dairy allergy (and possibly soy), so he's waking up more at night and I'm having a hard time finding things to eat (dairy and soy are in everything!) Between work and taking care of the kids and pumping at home/work and nursing at home and waking up at night with the baby and answering pages in the middle of the night and waking up early with DS1, I'm super exhausted! And hungry! This is my only fun outlet though, so I'm still posting WIW's. Thanks for looking and commenting!

1-6. DH surprised me with a gift card to White House Black Market before the baby came so that I could buy new clothes after the baby--so sweet. I finally had the chance to shop there and got a bunch of stuff. My Anne Fontaine white shirt is too tight across my nursing bust now (buttons kept popping open) so I was glad to find this substitute. I also bought some shorts and jewelry. And these flats, but within 10 min of wearing them the paint already chipped off the point of the toe on one of them, so I'm considering taking it back for return/exchange.
WHBM white poplin shirt with rolled sleeves, black and white chevron stripe skirt, cap toe black flats, and black dot necklace. Michael Kors black satchel.

7-10. This dress is great for access for pumping and nursing with the snaps (although I forgot to button it up after nursing at the park--how embarrassing!). It also works equally well in spring/summer (with sandals or booties) and fall (with tall boots and leather jacket). I went to the park with the boys after work to pick up DD who was with a friend all day for a playdate. I was so glad that the friend's parents and my MIL were there to help out, because I simultaneously got paged to call the hospital, DS2 started crying wanting to nurse, DS1 said he had to go potty RIGHT NOW (with no bathroom at the park), and DD was with her friend hiding somewhere in the big play structure. I can't keep all the balls in the air by myself...definitely need lots of help! It's a three ring circus around here for sure!
H&M safari shirtdress, Linea Pelle belt, Rieker booties, Fossil floral satchel, F21 bronze bracelet and Alexis Bittar orange leopard pendant (love the matching orange in the bracelet and necklace).

11-12. Hope you're not sick of my match matchy polka dot craze! I love the necklace I just got from WHBM (#4), because it's like a polka dot necklace! It's a more subdued variation of the J Crew bubble necklace, so it's a lot more wearable. I can't believe these dotty snake shoes and bag weren't part of a set...they're like long-lost twins! And these shoes are one of the most attention-getting compliment-generating shoes I own! All of my patients and the hospital staff love them. I tried to purge my closet but I keep pulling things out of the purge pile, like this jacket (that I thought was too wrinkly), because I need them to complete an outfit. This was the only topper that worked (matches the color of the shoes/bag, plus the buttons match the polka dots), and it was perfect for the foggy weather. I'm having second thoughts about purging my closet, because I keep rescuing everything from the purge pile!

Well you are an amazing woman.
I am so glad you have a supportive family during this incredibly busy and demanding time. I well remember that era in my own life.
YLF in all your outfits but it's the safari dress that "blows my hair back", as the locals say here. The cut and colour are perfect on you.

I love that safari dress too! I think these outfits are all so interesting, even if they aren't brightly coloured.

All the patterns are fab but I particularly love outfit 2.

All of these outfits are blowing me away!  I want to go shopping in your closet.  And at least all that action must be helping you drop the baby weight.

I love all your black and white outfits, but I find myself drawn to the safari dress and the accessories with it as I would wear those shades, You look fab in all iterations and I love your new puchases. The bag and shoes in 12 really do look like they were made as matching set, they're fab!
BTW I hope baby settles back to sleeping better soon.

These are great outfits but I especially #2 with the flame colored jewelry.  Great choice.  I hope life calms down a little for you!  I would say that maybe you should wait a couple months before purging since your heart doesn't seem to be into right now.

All of these outfits are fabulous Natalie - you are a wardrobe and outfit expert. Frankly with all that you are juggling right now, I'm even MORE impressed with your outfits.

    I love all of these.

Gorgeous all of them. I hope you are not the standard for moms! Supermom Natalie! My DD had the dairy allergy. It was tough!

Aw, your DH was so sweet to get you that GC! Love everything you showed here. Amazing how you did not miss a beat, either with your bump or after.

Goodness, Natalie, you are one busy woman! It has to be super-exhausting to be juggling so many responsibilities, but you seem to be doing an amazing job of it. You look so good, and so put together- I am absolutely in awe! I love all your outfits, but probably the safari dress most of all. Wishing you some well-deserved rest and some time to take a nap or at least sit down and put your feet up!

Urrrggghh!!! Those flats are gorgeous! But the paint chipped off :(. Natalie, I can't even make it past outfit #1 before fainting. A 20 out of 10!! The pattern and the flats are so now. Great to see you in black & white!  Sorry about the shoes. SO annoying.
  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

I know, Angie! I like the shoes and am thinking of trying to exchange them for another pair, but am worried the same thing will happen.

Thanks everyone for the boosts! I'll reply when I have more time. You are all so sweet!

Oh, I forgot to mention that my oldest son has a dairy allergy.  When I was nursing I could eat one dairy product a day without affecting him - so milk with cereal in the morning then no dairy for the rest of the day or a container of yogurt and then nothing else.  He's 7 now and still highly allergic to dairy, although his sensitivity has dropped (from off the charts to extremely sensitive) over the years.  Luckily he's not allergic to soy so I use soy milk as a substitute when I cook.  I can't stand the taste of soy milk so don't drink it myself.  If your DS turns out not to be allergic to soy there are lots of soy alternatives available like soy yogurt, soy sour cream, etc.  Although I do have an epi-pen for him, my son throws up dairy almost instantly so I've never needed it.

I LOVE YOUR DOTS WOMAN. And your chevron pencil skirt! And your purple glasses!!!!

PS: Eww. Call. I hope it stays quiet for you :)

Natalie, your nursing style is every bit as amazing as your pregnancy style and your pre-pregnancy style. I don't know how you do it. I'm especially loving #1. And although I believe you about the lack of sleep, you look the opposite of sleep deprived. You are positively glowing!

You look beautiful, Natalie.  I'm so glad you got a few new things to get you through nursing!  Love the safari dress!

Sounds like you're expending a lot of energy both at work and home.  I hope you can find some ways to recharge.

I love when you play around with dots and color. You end up with such interesting combinations. Clearly I have a favorite! I can't help it. I love black white and green. I am also realizing I love all the black and white patterns this spring. You look fabulous!

Natalie - I am exhausted and overwhelmed just reading about what your life is like right now!  Oh my!  But then I looked at your outfits and I thought "this cannot be the same woman that just wrote about an impossible schedule and responsibilities!"  How do you do it?  You look absolutely gorgeous in all of these - I can't choose a favorite!
