WIW Holiday Party: Wild Wild West Saloon Girl!

My workplace holiday party was tonight and we had a fun theme (sorry Rae!) of Wild Wild West. Initially I posted some possible outfits here:
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....iday-party

But then I wasn't completely happy with the looks and they didn't feel very Wild West to me. Claire had the great suggestion to do a saloon girl costume so I took that idea and ran with it. I bought a red and black striped saloon girl costume from Amazon that has a ribbon bodice and short ruffled hem in the front and longer in the back. It only had Velcro in the back to hold it closed, so I had to add a safety pin for extra security. I added some striped black Commando fishnet tights, Mia Nanette heeled black lace-up ankle booties, a black feather boa, and a red ruffled clutch. My favorite find was a Victorian bead necklace from Amazon for $19 that came with matching dangly black earrings. The necklace has a vintage-style cross. I think it really helped keep the outfit in "saloon girl" territory because the dress alone looks more like a pirate wench costume. I ended up buying pretty much everything except the purse new, but I think I'll be able to use the booties and some of the accessories with my other outfits. I put my hair in a bun and wrapped DD's headband with red roses on it around the bun.

DH went all out as well. He bought a brown oiled canvas long duster, brown cowboy hat, holster and replica six shooter (it's so heavy it looks real). He's like an excited little kid--he's been walking around the house with his toy gun and holster on the last several days. :) He also bought a mustache and a vest but they didn't come in time so he just wore a brown plaid shirt and Levi jeans. And some fake spurs for his boots so he would make ka-chink noises when he walked. And the best part was the little sheriff's pin he wore that says "Official Brothel Inspector."

I was a little worried that nobody else was going to dress up like me and that they'd all be in plaid shirts and jeans and I'd be all embarrassed to be in a "slutty" outfit. But there were several other saloon girls and madams at the party. And a lot of the guys were all dressed up like gunslingers too. It had more of a vintage feel to the party that was very fun!

Here are some pics from the party--we had lots of fun!

wow! Have to run but you pulled this off brilliantly! The necklace is genius, really sends it over the edge into Saloon Girl Look.

So nice to see DH getting into it too, he did a great job!

You look like you had a great time and you look empirically fabulous with your hair up and those colours, and wow, I just realised you're not wearing your glasses! You look gorgeous without as much as with!

(don't you love having 2 different faces - then you can, movie style, take off your glasses and amaze people!)

Your party looks like it was a blast! And you and hubby were a great pair as saloon girl and gunslinger.

Those group shots take the style and taste of this site to a whole different level, LOL! (I won't say WHAT level!)

I wish my workplace would have a costume party!

Woo-hoo Natalie! You and hubby looked SO fab! Tell him I love a man in a duster! There's just something about the drama of a sweeping, long coat.

I love that you ran with the saloon girl look, and you wrere in good company. The authentic costume was in the perfect colors for you and you're right about the jewelry icing the cake. Your hair looks great up and it was fun to see you without glasses for a special occasion. It looks like you all had a fine time. Thanks so much for sharing the pictures! :)

Great outfit! You look like you had fun putting it together. I love the group photos - everyone looks like they are having such a good time.

You should be in a fashion magazine showing people how to put together a themed party outfit!

How you pulled this off is extraordinary! From your dress to your shoes, hose, clutch, amazing jewellery, hair and make-up.

That necklace and earrings really send this over the top. What a great eye you have!

I think you'll be able to use everything but the dress in your day to day life, perhaps the necklace is not so much your style but I'd love to see more of it!

Congrats on making this come together so perfectly. Looks like you had a blast at the party, what fun!

OMG, this looks like a BLAST!!! Claire is a genius - the costume is perfect! Smart call to run with it! Great job putting it all together - the dress, jewellery, hairpiece, and hose - love it! What fun that DH is participating and enjoying himself too - fab all around! Your co-workers look like a hoot as well. I wish every workplace could do something similar - what a great bonding moment without the stress!

OMG this is so awesome, Natalie! You look great and so does your hubby - I love that you guys (and many of your coworkers too) went all out. Wild wild west is a great theme - I love the fashions and it's so much fun to get dressed up in them.

KILLER brilliant costumes! You and hubby look sensational :)

  • CocoLion replied 12 years ago

GP Thanks for sharing these photos! Your outfit is the best of the lot. Now you and DH have items to wear to many other future Halloween or costume events. You can go pirate wench, or pub wench (new category I just invented) with the change of a few accessories. Or Wild West cat house owner if you add DH's gun and hostler!

  • annagybe replied 12 years ago

    Awesome! How fun.

HOWDY PARTNER!!! You and you hubby look fantastic Natalie...what a fun time!

  • AJ replied 12 years ago

OH WOW! This was definitely the way to go! Why can't all holiday work parties be fun like that?

You did a great job and I'm tickled that your husband got excited about his outfit as well. Hmmm, maybe you can tell him that his enjoyment in choosing just the right pieces for his costume and feeling fab in it is just the same way you feel since coming to YLF. : )
