WIW 11/9: Pattern matching houndstooth squared (and more burgundy)

Here's a new teal houndstooth cardigan I bought from Nordstrom:

I thought, instead of pattern mixing, why not try pattern matching! Matchy matchy me loves pattern matching even more than pattern mixing! So I paired it with my burgundy houndstooth pencil skirt. And added a yellow skinny belt and bookended with a yellow bag, just because I thought the combination of teal+burgundy+mustard sounded interesting. DH did not like the belt though--he says it looks too tight esp. with my big belly. In general he doesn't like it when I belt things though, esp when I belt over sweaters or dresses. But another male coworker also commented on my belt today, saying "What IS that? Is that a belt? Is that supposed to be a fashion statement?" I tried it without the belt and with a black bag for a more subdued look but I don't think I like it as much--I feel like I look fatter without the waist definition of a belt (even if I don't really have a waist and the belt is under my bust). So, what do you think--belt or no belt? And yay or nay on the yellow?

This evening we were invited for a dinner party to another family's house so I changed into something more casual. This is another new sweater, from H&M. It's actually from the regular section but the tunic length is great for belly coverage. In burgundy of course! With Gap Maternity Always Skinny jeans and La Canadienne Galaxy boots and Fossil floral purse and WHBM burgundy cuff.

Thanks for looking and for your comments/suggestions!

Clever pattern mix/match :) The yellow belt looks off to me, but I do think a belt gives definition so I would be suggesting some much lower contrast:) The burgundy sweater is beautiful on you. Love the neckline.

Love outfit 5/6! The color is fantastic on you. I love the trend color burgundy and do wear it even though it's not my best color. But on you, fabulous.

As for the first outfit, I'm not sure about the belt one way or another. I like the way it matches the purse, and agree it creates some definition, but it's not a conventional place to wear a belt. Still I can't believe your male co-worker said that!

I actually like the yellow belt outfit! The pattern match is fun and yellow is unexpected. I do think I'd have trouble wearing it myself, but mainly because of what Denise said; it's an odd placement for a belt and I wonder how it would work when I moved and sat. But apparently that hasn't caused you any difficulty. So pshaw to your colleague!

I love your second outfit, too. Very relaxed and cozy!

One retro mama-to-be! The first outfit of yours is one classy yet bright and in with the mix-match pattern and colour trend. Spot on. Liking the yellow, nice bright touch!
Your second outfit is nice too. I like clothes that have shape and texture but that show that you're comfortable wearing it. And with a pregnancy glow on top, you couldn't combine it any better :)

I like the color of the yellow belt but I have to admit that the placement seems odd to me. My eye has never gotten used to where belts sit on pregnant women though - it's not just this outfit. I love the second casual outfit with the burgundy sweater. The color looks really good on you and you look chic and relaxed.

You look great -- love the pattern mixing! I will admit to preferring it without the belt. I think the yellow bag would be fab on its own even sans belt!

That said, fooey on your co-worker and his totes inappropes comment!!

I think the belt is fun. It draws the eye right to your narrowest part so that's a good thing. DH and I watch HGTV and I remember seeing the (non-pregnant) show hosts wearing belts up high under the bust line, and this is not even with an empire waist top or dress. I think it looks even better on you! I love the cozy cowl on that burgundy sweater. The color is so rich on you and makes you look like a very luxe and pampered expectant mom. Rock on!
