WIW 1/9: Russian Spy (is this UWP or not?)

After yesterday's UWP discussion, I wanted to come up with an outfit that felt very UWP to me and see if I could really pull it off. So last night I was scrambling in my closet trying to find clothes that felt UWP but still fit (there's not a whole lot left!) Here is what I came up with. I saw that some of the pics on the pinterest board that Una linked to had fur collars, so I picked my burgundy cardigan with fur collar. And used my burgundy zip boots to match. With some skinny black pants (less feminine than a skirt, so maybe a little more tough chick). Then the accessories--the most UWP ones I have: snake earrings, spiky bracelet, and black studded satchel.

So in my mind, this is the best UWP look I can achieve right now. And yet I'm still not convinced it's UWP. What do you think--UWP or not? And if not, how would you describe this style? I'd love to hear your analysis of this outfit!

In my mind, I feel like a Russian spy. I know my descriptors are always more fanciful than the outfits themselves, but that's part of the fun of playing dress-up! I love creating little characters for the day. And being pregnant is the perfect decoy--nobody expects a pregnant woman to be a spy!

And lo and behold, I looked up "Russian spy fashion" and found an actual Russian spy who was deported and now is a minor celebrity, and she walked the catwalk in her spy fashion! Outfit is kinda similar to mine! Not too far off, wouldn't you say?

I love your outfit! Russian Spy for sure!

Those boots with that sweater, wow, just amazing!

An you are right, no one would expect a pergnant spy. I also remember reading somehwere that the CIA was recruiting more female operatives. Women are apparantly better than men at listening and not being noticed.

Russian Spy - love it. I think it's great how you gave the clasically feminine cardigan some edge with the pants, boots, and accessories - especially those earrings - too cool. I'd say you are rocking this look.

Ooh, I love the spy twist! I think the fur collar also gives a slight huntress look.

What I see when I look at ALL your outfits is "polished". Whatever you wear, it looks luxe and elegant - fur and shiny patent in a deep rich color and feminine touches. It's admirable and I think you should (and have) embraced it. And I don't know that UWP must be RATE, either, though the W part seems like it should. So maybe you are Urban Luxe Princess?

Yes, I agree too -- your looks all are polished and not RATE at all. Definitely a successful ruler who is enjoying her riches.

Princess Anastasia goes covert ops! Love it. Definitely UWP to me. May have to pin you spy when I get home. :)

Natalie, you are so cool! Who else could dress up as a sexy Russian spy in her third trimester, and TOTALLY pull it off?

Really great outfit, I'm so glad the UWP descriptor gave birth to this beauty. I think a spy is a kind of warrior, so you are good to go. Your wits are your weapon, not to mention the baby may have special powers, like a psychic mind probe. Very nice!

Ooh, I like Urban Luxe Princess. That might not quite cover the spikes, though.

    YLF, as always!
Personally, while I don't claim to have any kind of handle on UWP, patent leather always reads a little dressy to me. Even with boots like these, there's still an glancing impression made by the patent, something I notice before the edgier details. Also, I love your arm candy but I think of UWP as a little more minimal.
    I like Urban Luxe Princess!

Ohmigosh, you are spot on! Russian spy!

But Russian Spy On The Catwalk! That is so wrong and so hilarious!

Anyways, I can see where you have thoughts of UWP, where it's a shadow style for you. You are very polished though, very civilized. It's interesting. I think you are more *Of the Last Opulent Days Before The Fall Of Civilization.* A few zombie sightings, the peasants are restless, but the palace gates are as yet still on their hinges...

...Gritty, lawless, but not totally abandoned. Oh! You know what comes to mind, my very favorite character of all time - Catherine Zeta Jones in *Traffic.* Where she's six months pregnant, learns her husband is a drug cartel lord when he's busted, and she takes over the business. She stares down thugs and orders hits and sells dolls made of cocaine while, like, popping her B vitamins. She's hilarious like Spy on the Catwalk. Wrong, but hilarious!

Btw, I really love the idea of characters for a day and playing dress up. That's inspiring!

Are we even sure she's pregnant? I mean Natalie could be in disguise here???

Stunning & gorgeous outfit BTW! Rock on Natalia (I don't think Natalie is your real name - in Russian, it's Natalia).

You nailed it! Definitely U and P, and feel you are a bit too polished and subtle for W. I do like the Urban Luxe Princess. Or maybe Urban Stealth Princess.

  • Day Vies replied 11 years ago

I love it. Aside from the pregnancy you look like you could lift top secret documents off of a hunky unsuspecting arch-enemy spy. Not sure what constitutes UP but I love it.

  • replied 11 years ago

Oh yep, I totally get the Russian spy allegory, Natali(a). - LOL Shannon!
My hat is off to you. I looked like crap and so everyone else around my time period. This is definitely the time fashion wise to get pregnant. I love your preggo style!
