K/R: The Shirt(s)

Sona helpfully posted about this company called The Shirt that makes button down shirts with extra buttons to prevent gapping at the bust. I ordered some to try, since my nursing bust has been at odds with my current button down shirts. Which of these do you think I should keep? I'm pretty sure I can make the first two (red snakeskin and black and white ink spots) work in my wardrobe easily. The gold lame was a bit of a stretch--I don't know why, but I wanted to try something new. But is it too tacky/disco to wear to work? It would be a challenge for sure to style, but it might be a lot of fun. Those three were all size M. The fourth shirt is a tunic style and the website said to size up on this one so I did order a L but I think the sleeves are too long and so is the shirt. It's also a very pale blue which I think is not my best color.

Thanks for your opinions!

I vote for the first two, red snakeskin and black and white splotches, these look great and seem so versatile. The lame seems a little too holiday or something to me and the tunic looks too big. Nice choices, though. What a great resource!

What Carole said. I particularly like the black and white on you. Good selections!

The first two are my faves on you, with the black and white one slightly edging out the red one.

I like the first two the best also. I think the tunic style one would work if the sleeves weren't so long, which makes it look like you're wearing someone else's shirt.

Umm... I'll be the outlier. I am not sure if I like the fit on the first three. They look short and boxy to my eye.

Like the first 2 best. For some reason the print looks less fitted than the red snake--optical illusion? For your fit issue you may be seeking a bit boxier style for now.

I like the length since they are not tunics. Don't know where length is trending, though. Would pass on the gold and I agree the white looks too oversized.

The first two are easy yeses. The second one could be fun with the autumnal colors in your wardrobe, but I would have to see it styled to be sure. The third one is cute when you roll up the sleeves but what would you do with all that length in the torso? By the way, I don't manage to comment always but I am so blown away by how you keep all your balls in the air. You are doing an amazing job, Natalie.

I am going to be an outlier here and say I am not thrilled with the first three.  The tunic I do think is nice.

I like the first two!  I have the red snake one coming.  Looked like it was final sale though?  Nervous!
  • Sona replied 10 years ago
love the first two. return the other two.
  • rachylou replied 10 years ago
I like the tunic, but think it's too big, yes. The first two seem easy yes's to me too. The lame I also like, but it is a little much. You'd have to wear jacket over it all the time.

I like the first two also!

I really like the red one! The second one is fine, but I don't love the print.
I like the idea of the tunic, but I think it needs to be a little shorter in overall length and sleeve length.

I love the b/w splotches shirt! Undecided about the red snakeskin, though it fits you well. It just didn't "wow" like the second one. I'm with the others -- I'd return the last two.

I vote keep the first two. They look sensational on you! I am not crazy about the others, though.

The red snakeskin looks like your style, and the black & white one is a close second.  The lame is a bit OTT for work, but it demonstrates that bronze flatters you; keep that note in the back of your mind!  If it is poly and not silk, it could get awfully hot and uncomfortable.  And the tunic looks big and overwhelms you.

I like the second one the best.  The red one is nice, but looks a tiny bit small to my eye.  The lame is definitely on the bright side, and the material appears too stiff to drape well in the back.  The tunic looks fine, but the color is not your best, as you said.

Agree about the first two. The fit looks great. Have you tried the sit and reach for baby tests?
  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago
#1 and #2 -- No brainer, yes vote.

#3 -- Maybe, if you have the occasions to wear something like this.  Otherwise, it might be on a fast track to the orphanage.

#4 -- No, I'm sorry, it's too big and even if it were in a smaller size, this style hides your lovely slim hips and thighs and is too tent-like to flatter your body type.

I would say yes to the first 2 - I think you can put them to excellent and immediate use. Not too sure on the other two
  • Denise replied 10 years ago
The first three look great on you.  Nice fit and very flattering.  The gold is more of an evening look. It would be fun with black jeans and jacket. Depending on your lifestyle, it could be fun.  If you don't feel comfortable in it, send it back. The white one looks too long on you. It makes you look shorter and wider than the first three.

I love the red snakeskin but I don't think this shade of red is the best for your skin tone. I think with all the black it gets muddy. Otherwise I like it. I would love to see you style this.
The b/w top looks wonderful. I love it on you especially with the jeans.
I'm not a fan of the gold. I think because it's not styled I am having a creativity block. Perhaps a darker washed (low contrast) or more distressed jean (high contrast)?
The tunic -- the details don't seem to work for me. You pointed out that the color is off. I think the color is fine. I think the pockets and the collar compete with one another. The collar seems almost over-sized.
  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago
Thanks all! I think I will keep the first two. The tunic shirt seems too long and big for me so I will try to see if I can exchange or return it.

No love for the gold lame? ;) I may have to try it styled and see if I can change your minds! The reason I was tempted by it was because of this ensemble in In Style. I have a lot of similar colors in my wardrobe so I thought it might work. I agree, it's a little over the top though. But it would be interesting to see if I could tone it down.

I actually like the gold and the tunic best. Hm, what's wrong with me this am, lol? Seriously, though, the gold would look fashionably oversized to me with some leggings or skinny jeans and your work pumps and a blazer. The first two do kind of look boxy to me, same as what Rachy said. I am wondering if the rolled/cuffed jeans and lack of shoes is throwing people with the tunic.
  • Scarlet replied 10 years ago

Oh, I misstyped. I meant the gold lame could be good with your autumnal colors. Try it!

  • replied 10 years ago
Just popped by to see your decision on these.Goldie looks fun, don't give up :p Rae, I thought the same thing sooo, it goes to show how diverse we can get.
  • kellygirl replied 10 years ago
I really like the gold lame. The red and the gold are my faves. I think 2 is nice too but doesn't have the wow factor of the other two. The tunic looks too big and I'm not sure whether sizing down would make it much better. Something about the collar and the pocket flaps just doesn't look right.

I'm with Rachylou and Rae, for different reasons, and I love you in red (first one and a great color on you), but I also like the look of the gold (you are very artful in your styling and CAN pull this off) and the length and shape of the light blue tunic (looks comfortable chic).
