WIW 3/4: Red obi belt, polka dots and yellow raisin

I've worn this polka dot top and yellow raisin skirt together before, but this red leather obi belt is new. I bought it from an Etsy seller a couple months ago:

I feel like it may be a tad too long. And it doesn't quite match my red shoes and bag. Also I'm not sure how to tie it to get it to look like #4 and #5. What do you think about the belt? I really like the idea of a red obi, but when I looked through my closet for some reason it wasn't quite as versatile as my black and cognac obi belts so I don't think I'll be able to use it as often. Any suggestions for what to wear with it?

The color is lovely, but it's a lotta belt! Maybe wear it with a more monochromatic outfit?

I have a similar belt in black. I find it too stiff to be usable so it's an orphan. I will be watching this thread with interest.

I really like the whole outfit. I don't have any obi belts, but I do martial arts and here's a link on how to tie those belts:

The knot is "open" in that you can see how the two ends are tied together. I prefer a "closed" look with scarves...

I've been stalking this shop for a while wanting a belt, but I agree with you that this one is a little long. I really like the colour though and it really brightens up the outfit :) hope you figure out how to tie it in a knot!

I love your color combo. I'm not the right person to comment on belts b/c I am clueless about them! : p

Thanks guys! I have tucked in the tails for now so that just the knot is showing. I will email the Etsy seller the pic and see what she suggests about possibly shortening or exchanging it.

I love this belt, but I agree with the others that it may be a tad too long. I think it would also look really cute with a solid color sweater dress (maybe in a teal color?). and knee length boots.

I've been checking out those obi belts from that Etsy seller too Natalie - just wondering - did you choose the narrower version? She has both a wide and narrow one and for me, I would choose the narrow version being that I'm fairly short waisted. It does seem quite long to me in terms of the tails. I love the idea of it though and I think the red colour works really nice with the outfit. It just seems the fit is a bit off.

In addition to tucking in the ends as you did in the last pic, I would take take each end in #2 as they lay diagonally and tuck each under the wider part of the belt. They would probably stay put better that way.

Gosh, Natalie, it's a gorgeous belt and I love your outfit combo. I think it is just a question of figuring out whether it can be shortened or tied in a different manner. It's lovely on you and seems to fit your overall style.

I think it's awesome! I would wear it with a dress, so you have the same colors above and below, or a monochromatic top and skirt (e.g., black).

Shannon, I got the narrower version of the belt. It seems plenty wide to me.

I got a belt from her too. I had her make it based on custom measurements, a little bit smaller and shorter than her regular small size because I am very petite. I think the belt is very nice and the length is great on you. Wear and love it!!

I love it as is, Natalie - belt and all. I also like how your belt matches your camera! :0)

#3 looks like it's just been wrapped around (the wrong way, so you get the ties in front again) an extra time before being half-knotted. #5 looks like a square knot (the way you'd do up a tie) and then tucked in at the ends. Wondering if #4 is a combo of the #3 (wrap twice around) and #5 (square knot) strategies.
