Taking requests--shop my closet and create an outfit for me!

I loved reading about Una's friend picking out an outfit from Una's closet for Una to wear! What a great idea!
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ick-friend

But I don't have any friends I can ask in real life to do that, so I thought I'd ask my YLF friends instead! Since I'm trying to shop my closet, I thought I'd take suggestions for outfits you would like to see me wear, and maybe that would give me fresh ideas for new ways to remix items from my closet and keep my mind off the temptation of buying new items. I'll try to wear some of them next week after the photo challenge!

Here are a few threads with lots of pics of my closet and a couple threads with typical outfits for me (there's also my blog http://goldenpig.lookfab.com/ with lots of other outfit examples).

(ETA: Here is my Pinterest page with some of the items in my closet:)

So, anything catch your eye--suggestions for a new outfit for me to wear (or an old favorite combo you'd like to see again)? Thanks in advance!

Looking forward to seeing the outfits!

One thing that's helped me a lot is to find and bookmark my wardrobe items in Polyvore. Then I can "try" things together and save the sets that worked for future reference.

I'd suggest Polyvore or similar (maybe AJs paperdoll trick since you have a treasure trove of photos) It might help to start a list of self challenges like an item or color or theme. It really helps me narrow it down. You could also do a copycat challenge like MaryK and pick 5 outfits from here or blogs to interpret with your items. It often helps to see them in new ways.

And there is always letting your DD choose an item for you to build around (I know mine would pick something sparkly without buttons)

  • Mochi replied 11 years ago

I can't help but smile at the idea of DD picking out an outfit. I know mine, at four or five, would have made a pretty decent job of it. Her taste was more confident and advanced than mine, at the time!

As for me, I'd probably have to have your clothes literally in front of me to be able to do this.

    I'll bite!!!
    Date night outfit:
Bee pussy bow blouse you and Mary K have.
    Cognac leather jacket
    Any belt in contrasting color.
Do you have bootcut jeans in a dark wash?
The MIA lace up booties in cognac under bootcuts
    The KS clutch in aqua.

I'll think of others this evening, I need to take a browse at your WIWs.

I don't have all the specifics in mind, because I'm not sure of everything in your closet, but I do have an idea percolating here. How about you try "Smart Casual" for a bit of a spin on things?

Angie's formula for this is: smart jeans + dressy top + jacket + dressy shoes

Here are a couple of her posts on the topic:

Here's the entire 'smart casual' archives (there's not too many to read):

I would love to see that Missoni for Target multi-colour blouse you have paired with smart jeans and dressed-up shoes/accessories. I'm not sure if this blouse would go with your white Paige Hidden Hills jeans (or even if white jeans would be considered smart casual) but I'm liking the idea. Or, alternatively - dark jeans with this blouse, really pretty shoes and a nice blazer. I'm thinking this might make a fabulous date night type of outfit for spring.

Even without a jacket, I have really enjoyed seeing Angie in this formula, and I think you'd look fab in these types of ensembles. You have lots of beautiful blouses, dressy tops and shoes. How about trying 'smart casual' with some of them? This is a little bit new-ish in that it's often easier to do smart casual in winter when you can just tuck jeans into some dressy-ish boots. But, it's spring. That means fabulously dressy flats or heels instead of boots. Soft, dressy blouses.

    What do you think?

ETA: I see that Zapotee and I are on the same wavelength :)

How fun! Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with and I will try to come up with something myself.

Thanks Sammi, JJsloane, Mochi, Zap, VC & Cheryl! I can't wait to try some of your new combos--I'm already excited by the ones you've posted! Zap, I would never have thought of cognac and aqua together! And VC, I think the white jeans could definitely spring-ify the Missoni Target blouses. Great ideas everyone!

Sammi and JJ, I don't have Polyvore, but I added my Pinterest page with some of my closet items in the OP.

JJ and Mochi, I think my daughter definitely could pick fun outfits for me! She's an advanced pattern mixer! And she always wants me to wear pants under my skirts (because she wears leggings under her skirts and dresses so she can hang upside down on the monkey bars). One time she said to me, "Momma, you have to wear pants under your skirt so they don't see your underwear when you twirl!" Maybe I'll have to try the dress over pants look myself!

i will try to come up with some ideas if i have a chance this afternoon... but i just had to post two words: closet envy!

The shoes on racks! The room to see everything! The bench!

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Is that an orange leather jacket I spy in your closet? I'd love to see that with your purple Adrianna Papell sheath dress. And maybe some boots, just because I love boots. Hm, am I choosing this outfit for you, or for me? lol

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

I'm very casual so my outfit idea is of course going to lean that way. I'm not sure of all the colors in that zig zag blouse (Missoni?) but I mostly see black and white and I would love to see that blouse, or your short sleeve polka dot blouse with your red skinnies and red Cons. If you want to even go for advanced pattern mixing then try them with the red snakeskin pants!

If I haven't already mentioned it, I absolutely adore your orange slice bag. So Want!!! lol :)

Fun! I'd love to see that floral skirt near the left on the bottom with the light back ground. :-) Something bright on top with maybe a denim or tan jacket.

  • modgrl replied 11 years ago

Well when I got dotty, Angie encouraged me to do dot on dot, since that is what Marc Jacobs is showing this season. I've had fun pairing dotty with all kinds of combinations but dot on dot has been my favorite.

    Others I have enjoyed:
Dotty with leopard shoes and a simple dress
    Dotty with abstract florals
Dotty with the geometric graphic print missoni blouse
    Dotty with stripes

I have nothing to contribute except - WOW. Is that you closet? O_O AMAZING.

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

Oh, fun! I would love to come over and play in your closet for you. Will think more about this.

  • Diana replied 11 years ago

OK, now that I have gotten over my closet envy...

You have a lot of lovely sheath dresses and nice silky blouses, so how about layering them? You could do some fun pattern mixing here too... maybe with the missoni blouses or maybe one of your PB blouses.

Or Bee blouse, the WHBM blue knife pleated skirt, lace-up boots (I think the Nanettes would be cool w/ the skirt, but you could also go for the fryes), and maybe a belt if it plays nicely w/ the skirt waistband.

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

    Okay, here's mine!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

I wish it was my closet!:-)

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

You might find this a mad mix... but I wonder if the Hinge patterned silk blouse would go with the rose-print Anthropologie skirt and the floral Fossil satchel. Maybe with the Ugg wedges?
